Nice vintage train layout. Love the 12v era

Hey Hey! Had mine set out a couple of months ago. My problem is that the trains seems to derail on the points and any complex turns. Also, there isn't enough power to run more than one motor at a time. If I try to run two trains at the same time they run very slow. I've cleaned the rails and motor points but it hasn't really improved things. I couldn't imagine having climbs in there and two trains going! I was wondering if you had done something specific with the generator? Have you more than one connected to the rails, or something else? Even when my trains were new back in the day I remember having trouble getting longer trains up any incline... Any suggestions welcome - appreciate this video is a few years old!

Gaute Lundal Hello, sorry for the delay. I believe it ended up being about 12 feet long and 6 feet wide, or slightly less.

Why do people tend to use 9v train tracks more than 12V is it more expensive.

Legendary Techno Guy yes. Quite rare and more expensive as a result. 12V is from the 1980s.

The problems are two. Maintenance and the fact that 9V track sections come in one solid piece, while the 12V ones require you to put lots of pieces together which becomes time consuming (and not fun at all) if you build non-permanent layouts. About maintenance, 9V tracks can conduct electricity to the train motor for a very long time without need of any cleaning at all while the 12V ones require you to run the trains almost on daily basis as otherwise a little bit of dust can already stop the trains from running. I chose 12V tracks for my layouts to save a lot of money, but it comes at the expense of having to spend a lot of time to put together the tracks and keeping them clean everytime I do a new setup.

+Matt Davidson hey can u send me a private message or send me a detailed video of how to open a Lego 12v motor please?? I need to repair my 7730 motor cause I don't think the motor gear is touching the other gears so the wheels don't move. I would be gladly appreciative if you can do this for me.😝😋

Matt Davidson It was just for information ;), Even if my collection is not as impressive as yours, II already own most of the 12v sets seen in your vidéo. Still, I can hear in my head your 7727 set telling me "buy me... buy me..."

12v trains are a financial black hole. The plastic pieces are so old and fragile you end up spending hundreds just for upkeep. I have 7740 and 7727. All the magnetic couplers have developed a crack due to shrinkage, an engine(thankfully the black one) broke down with smokes and had to be replaced, all the transparent round studs had to be replaced. Even the sleeper plates have become so fragile I am afraid to assemble/disassemble them. I plan to replace all of them with Lego compatible 2x6 dark gray plates. No Lego, I have spent enough on you.
