She’d have to collect the original out of print manga single issues and it’s beyond expensive and difficult to track down. I noticed she tends to do reviews only after collecting mostly everything, which is respectable
As I remember the book book Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa (which the vagabond manga is following), is also unfinished, ends by facing Musashi and Kojiro at pre-battle.
Im very new to collecting manga , definitely going with the definitives because I like them more , it's got that simplistic look like the other deluxes And I'm okay with the manga not being finished as well, not every thing ends well, the journey was amazing enough in this case
the biggest thing i have in mind when spending this much on a book is longevity. i want to be able to read these 20+ years from now and go through countless rereads. one thing i can promise to anyone with the paperbacks is that they will certainly not stand the test of time. so, personally, i don't think the connected spine is a good enough reason. i only collected 1-3 before deciding to wait for this, pages were falling out after just one read
That's so awesome! I love that more manga are getting hardcovers, and Vagabond definitely deserves it. I would love a hardcover for Blame!, or any of Nihei's manga in general lol
They've really been ramping up these releases (all publishers it seems too). It's been exciting and agreed!!! Oh man, yes! Anything Nihei would be incredible. The Blame! paperbacks designs look so good, but I always wished they were hardcover haha so let's hope!
I was trying to get into the manga and your video pushed me over the edge to buy it. I am not too crazy for the vizbig collection and this honestly looks like a Ancient Japanese novel. Loved the Video!
Love the mention of Gantz! I just bought Vagabond Definitive edition. Definitely want a Gantz deluxe. Have some of the single discontinued Gantz, never wanted the omnis worried about the spine crease and potential pages falling out.
Hey, awesome you picked up the Vagabond Definitive! I hope you enjoy it! I have to mention Gantz any time I can haha😅One of my all time favorites, so I keep hoping for a Deluxe! I also want more people to get into the series, and the omnibuses as you said concern some with their spines and size. Definitely felt that worry too while reading the omnibuses (I have some of the singles, but picked up omnis to fill the gaps haha). A hardcover would definitely be the best way to experience the series, especially with such incredible art, and I want more people to get into the series, so I really hope we get one!!!
I recently started reading manga after being an anime fan forever. I’m coming over from reading comics mainly in Omnibus format so this is a great time to be getting in with all these deluxe editions.
Thanks for this review! I have all the vizbigs but I love this series so much, that ima need to get a hold of these editions. Hope Inoue finishes this series
Hey, thank you so much!!! I always try to be as concise but thorough as possible with these, so it means a lot to hear this!!! Hope you have an awesome day and thanks again!
I've been looking forward to this. The Vizbig's have such amazing spine art, but these Definitive Editions seem way better at everything else. I'm gonna have to double dip and get this version. Thankfully I only have Vizbig 1-4, so I won't have to rebuy the whole series
My vol 4 nearly split in half, the entire spine cracked over halfway through at colour page at “106 Footprints” and the right page fell out. I’m not a fan of Vizbigs or any 3-in-1 volumes, the spines are nearly always bad. The only exception I have is Gantz, they’re the only ones I have where I don’t worry about the spines cracking, and they’re thicker than any Vizbig.
haha I don't blame you! Pretty much always in my ears when I'm shooting b-roll or doing anything else around the house 😄 Their sweatshirts look so good but they are also comfy. Props to them for making such amazing music (and hoodies).
@@AnimeCollective Im going to see them at a festival this summer so hopefully while im there I will be able to get a hoodie for myself as well :) ... That is if I have got money left from buying all the manga deluxe editions haha.
Yay!!! So glad the quality is as good as it appears. Also, thanks for mentioning the smell!!! Literally one of my favorite parts of cracking open a Berserk deluxe. I've never read Vagabond. So excited for mine to come
I couldn't be happier that it turned out so good!!! Ah of course! I am the same way haha the smell is one of the best things about opening up a new manga, especially the Deluxes haha Hope Vagabond gets there soon and enjoy opening it up!!!
Hi thank you for making this video I was so confused between which version to get also thank you for putting me on tokyo revengers in the 2 in 1 video!
Hey, of course! Anytime I have a chance to do a video on Vagabond, I couldn't be happier, so thank you so much!!! Glad you were able to decide which edition you wanted to get and awesome to hear that you enjoyed Tokyo Revengers!
I was in the same boat! Love the character spines, but couldn't agree more, the way the artwork looks in this edition is unmatched. It has been a joy re-reading the series so far this way! Hope you enjoy the edition!
Totally agree about Gantz, it’s definitely a series I want in deluxe, another I’d love is Made in Abyss, it’s my second favourite manga & I’ll love it in deluxe.
When I started collecting manga again last year, Vagabond was one of the series I was looking at. But seeing the issues with the spine becoming unglued, and finding 2-in-1s like Vinland Saga and Monster were better than 3-in-1s for both size and readability, I opted to wait to collect what is apparently peak as a deluxe. I ended up finding the 1st volume one day and decided to go for it. Hopefully the author can finish the series in a satisfying way. I'm getting 2 Billy shelves for my collection soon. Berserk is going on one, and Vagabond on the other, to anchor both shelves.
I definitely don't blame anyone for not picking up the Vizbigs. I've always had a love/hate relationship with them and when reading them, I feel like I have to hold them like they are the most delicate volumes to be honest, so I feel you! I was always worried that people weren't getting into series like Vagabond, because of the edition so I couldn't be happier to hear that you are picking it up, and I would assume others as well, now that it has a hardcover. It definitely needed this format and I hope so too! Also, Vinland Saga and Monster were both great pick-ups! Ah man, that will look awesome! Vagabond and Berserk as the anchors, I couldn't have picked two better series myself 😄
Egmont in Germany is releasing a new edition of Eden: It's an Endless World! I'm hoping Dark Horse or someone else follows up with an English edition since I prefer reading those.
Oh man, Eden: It's an Endless World! is another I dream of owning Deluxes of too! I truly hope we do also. I have the Eden Perfect Editions from France and those are absolutely beautiful (had to collect another edition as well due to the expensive singles), so I'd love to see what Dark Horse would do with a Deluxe release. Fingers crossed!
What's the Dorohedero thing behind you at 0:48? But damn, it looks so good without the dust jacket 😍, I'm tempted to remove the dust jacket too when I buy it
fyi : in the manga world , the manga art is drawn on larger sheets than shrunk down to size for the smaller books , i think this makes sense for takehiko art work a larger edition is cool , i only have part 1 and 2 i might continue the collection with these
I need to definitely get on that! Been meaning to do an updated collection tour (a lot has changed!). Still been building up our place after a move, but almost have everything where I want it to be. I will for sure be doing one this year though since its been a minute!
Hey, thanks so much!!! Couldn't agree more, they definitely do! Lorna Shore and Gantz, you have awesome taste! haha Here's hoping we get a Deluxe of Gantz soon!
Yeah, I feel you. The half sleeve thing (I honestly don't know what to call it haha) is a bit of an odd addition after sitting with it. Glad the edition itself is such high quality and couldn't agree more about the print quality. They really knocked it out of the park in that department. Awesome to hear you'll be picking it up! Enjoy!
@@AnimeCollective to be exact it's called an obi / obigami (帯 / 帯紙)! With normal tankobon manga we have the actual dust jacket section that protects the book itself, and first print / special edition mangas will have that shorter sleeve which we call an Obi :D
Looking forward to getting my copy! As for future deluxe editions, I’d love to see Naoki Urasawa’s PLUTO receive this treatment. It’s only 8 volumes, so they could potentially do it in 4 big hardcovers.
Hope you get your copy soon and enjoy! 😄Ooh, yes, for sure Pluto! I've seen a lot of Naoki Urasawa mentioned, so here's hoping. I couldn't agree more about Pluto, though. More compact, but one of his best. It would be an easy, sure-thing for them to do if they chose to. A shelf full of Urasawa hardcovers would be amazing.

Would that paper slip cover thing with the guy's face on it be something that would be left on like a slip cover or is it just a piece of paper that you'd throw away?
Hey, so its hard to describe what it is. It's not really a slipcover (its more so a decorative paper sleeve), so its not the most sturdy thing they could have added. I won't be throwing mine away, though. I probably will be storing mine elsewhere. I just prefer the look of the volumes on the shelf without them and its easier to read with it off as well! Hope that helps!
@@AnimeCollective Yeah that helps. The volumes look so pretty without that cover thing but its annoying that its just significant enough to where you wouldn't have the heart to throw it away lol.
