Taylor Twellman is a fantastic co commentator. He oozes football. Really good feather in American “soccer”‘s cap x

Taylor Twellman as a commentator is 'world class'. Just like he was 'world class' as a player. Because he has a 'world class' vocabulary.

    Playoffs devalue the regular season.

@Jon Leach in a normal league with a double round-robin schedule every match is equally important at deciding the final positions.
As the cliche goes, "the league table doesn't lie," but playoffs do.
The best team over the course of the season is the team on top of the league.
The winner of MLS Cup is the team which got luckiest.

But this is North America, where we, because of our culture, are used to the regular season determining the qualification and seeding for the final tournament, where crazy, fun things happen because teams can win it all by getting hot.
It's fun when Eli and the G-men knock off Brady and the undefeated, dynasty Pats.
So, whereas the League Cup in England is the least prestigious of its yearly major competitions, the League Cup in North America is our most prestigious association football competition. In turn, the regular season table winners win the Supporters Shield in our 2nd most prestigious competition, and our domestic cup is 3rd most prestigious. I like it--it makes sense for us. It's ok to be different from Europe, and it's best to be ourselves.
Edit: felt the need to qualify the League Cup as the least prestigious of England's majors.

@@davidmh6666 American sports culture is not used to being just one league among many. Nor is it comfortable with international and inter-league matches.
Because US consumer culture is all about having everything now.
In the rest of the world league position qualifies for continental competition. This gives something to built towards. The off-season is the time for international matches.
In layman's terms, "next season is the true post-season."
If Americans want the standard of football in MLS to advance to a competitive level, you will be forever disappointed while no promotion or relegation exists and while playoffs make league matches meaningless.
If USA ever wants to win the World Cup, this will have to change.

@@davidmh6666 put it this way, in footballing terms, MLS Cup and playoffs are the League Cup of American soccer.
The best team is the best over the course of the season. They finish top of the table.
The luckiest good team wins through the open, unseeded knockout cup.
The third cup is about supporting the professional pyramid.
MLS Cup is the third cup.

@@jamesspackman9819🙏 Agreed. But, like I said, it works for us 😊😊😊 We're ok with being different, even if that means we aren't always the best 💖💖💖💖
