I don't know if you can really say Sonny had a dip in form. He got 7 more goals than the previous year, and finish with 17 which is the second highest amount of goal he's ever scored at Spurs.
Playing mainly through the middle too. Not his preferred position.
I don’t think Son is void of criticism as much as we all love him. He had spells of high goal scoring, but his form did dip last season after a while playing through the middle. Happens to every player…..would love to see Sonny have another high scoring belter this season from the wing though!
the previous year he was one of our worst players and one of the worst attackers in England. And this last season under Ange he didn't play well after he came back from the Asian Cup ... where he didn't play well either.
Registering 10 assists as well. It's very hard to criticize but yeah he CAN do better but doing that in the EPL is no easy feat at all
I think it could have been said better. A better way of phrasing is would have been: "We saw how Sonny couldn't play as optimal when not playing in his best position." It's not that Sonny didn't do well, he was the best striker option Spurs had at the time; it's that Sonny is just better at the wing.

Solanke fits ange’s system very well. Big, good in the air, poacher in the box, can step into midfield and become a very underrated playmaker. However, if tottenham were going to spend 65m on a striker, i don’t understand why they wouldn’t spend 70m on gyokeres. Even though he has a release clause, sporting have said they would take a large bid that was under the 80m ish release clause. Gyokeres is unbelievable, is able to do everything solanke can do but better, and is better with the ball at his feet. Unbelievable underlying numbers, top 90%+ percentile in things like chances, dribbles, etc. Toney would be the worst buy by far. Already 29, played half a season and did poorly, huge attitude problems (shit on brentford the team that stayed with him and supported him through the ban), Even if he’s proven prem scorer, he’s nearly 30 and will shit talk tottenham in a year or so if they don’t win anything.
The question is, does Gyokeres want to come to Tottenham?
The guy was playing Championship football the season before last and had one good season in a Portuguese league where a lot of very average players do well. I'm not saying he isn't all that, but I'm baffled why so many are so blindly convinced he is.
Top 90 percentile in non top 5 league. Gyokeres has done it in a much weaker league. Solanke has done it in the best league, in one of the lower half teams.
Comparing stats of players playing in different leagues?
With due respect, Gyökeres is playing in Portugal and Solanke in the EPL.

Solanke is tested at this level and, more importantly, in the EPL, so we know he's acclimatised.
Solanke outperformed Gyökeres when they were both in the Championship as well btw.

Another positive in Solanke's favour is that he hasn't missed many games in the last 5 years. 32, 40, 46, 33 and 38 league games for Bournemouth after he suffered his only long-term injury in 18/19. It would be great to have a striker who's just consistently available!
Solanke has been my pick for Spurs for over 6 months now. Much better fit than Toney and much better quality than David. Sesko or Gyokeres would have been great but considering the fee and Prem experience, Solanke is the better option short term and safer option as well.

Solanke was on my wishlist, seemed a realistic signing and I followed him closely last season as he was in my fantasy league team and did me proud. Excited we got him but we have signed big money signings before who never made the grade but I think this is going to be a great one, his skillset and style really fits our playing style. FIngers crossed this works out!

Solanke , I believe would be an average signing. If we have to pay 60 mil for him, then why not pay more and get a true top class strikere. Neto is another disaster signing. Injury prone and barely plays in the Wolves system, I don't believe he will last 10 games in our system. And more importantly we need a top quality 6 desparately. Against Bayern it became clear that when we don't score a lot our defensive fragility is too evident. As good as Gray has been, he is just a kid making a big step up. That kind of high expectations to perform against the big clubs may not help him. We need someone there with experience in that role. That makes me wonder what the hell we are doing in the market. Constant links to Neto, Solanke, Gallagher, Ramsey... It's honestly getting a bit depressing now. 3 kids and Timo Werner ain't enough to compete for top 4 and more importantly win a trophy.
Solanke is a decent striker, better than Richarlison I think. I wouldn't refer to him as a statement signing, more of a necessary one. Signing both Solanke and Neto would be good business. I'd consider the clubs overall window to be a success. Ideally I'd still prefer Gyokeres or Osimhen but they are likely less realistic. I dont like the idea of Chelsea getting 20% of the fee.
Against a newly promoted team, Solanke look anything but perfect.

I follow the Portuguese League and I don´t have any doubt about Gyokeres. Solanke is a really good number 9, but Gyokeres is a beast, fast and good finisher. I would love to see him with Spurs shirt, it would also fit in Ange's system without doubt.

Broooo I honestly don't think solanke the one, he's a more efficient richarlson without the headers, he runs into to space and operates well in space, teams know to play defensively and attack in transition to win, we need a striker that can operate in small spaces, a playmaking striker with a high IQ, and that's either Johnathan David from lille - that guys dribbling is insane for a striker, or ivan toney

10 May 2024: Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has revealed that the planning for the summer transfer window has been in hand for quite some time now and Spurs know what they need to do.
Im going to be honest here, I was kind of disappointed at first. I thought that consider how complete this squad is and how many young players has impressed in pre season, I was hoping for a big name like Osimhen or Gyokeres because I think right now a top striker is pretty much all we need to bring this team on top. However after I saw an article about how Ange approached his targets, I slowly changed my mind on this signing. Although I still don't think he is worth 65m, I kinda like this signing more and more just because how he played last season and 2 seasons before when he was in championship, and the fact that he actually wanted to play for spurs makes me think he might be a pretty underrated signing. Plus I think if there is someone that can guarantee to make him succeed it will be Ange and Maddison.

So far, Solanke has had 1 good season at Bournemouth, that's all. He's not a bad player, but we could do way better. Solanke isn't worth the money he's priced at. Richarlison isn't that great and he's too inconsistent. Spurs need to sell Richarlison to be able to fund any future top signings, that's what concerns me!

Why not play Porro as central striker? He is big, strong, quick, dribbles well, feisty, shoots with both feet from all distances, has a good eye for one-twos, is defensively good, and can play the occasional long through pass. The perfect Kane replacement at no extra cost, more so now that Spence has shown in pre-season how good he can be as a right (wing)back. I'd say give Porro a chance in this position before looking for someone else.
