- In this video Aaron Hilliard, Vice President of the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society and creator of Mushroom Wonderland describes how wild mushrooms operate, when they grow, where they grow, how they grow. There are some fundamentals that should be known before you go out mushroom hunting and Aaron breaks it down in this 20 minute video. We also take a look at what is probably the worlds most famous and recognizable mushroom, the Amanita muscaria, as well as a close relative of it. We also have a look at a few other mushrooms.
Come along and subscribe to Mushroom Wonderland and learn to forage mushrooms!
Your videos are awesome me, my wife and kids all enjoy them. Keep them coming.
if you come up towards Bellingham WA let me know. id love to get out and find some great stuff with you. it has been super dry here the last couple months so I've really been wishing for rain.
Been very dry here too🍄 praying for rain🙏🌧️
I'm in Bellingham, and yes really dry here
I've heard a lot of tripping stories, and they are very exciting,I would love to try magic mushrooms but I can't easily get some, Is there any realiable source I can purchase from??
I have been looking for a legit seller to buy from.
Yeah, I got mine from bergwilly1
On Insta
The Trips I've been having have really helped me a lot,I finally feel in control of my emotions and my future and things that used to be mundane to me now seem incredible and full of nuance on top of that I'm way less driven by my ego and I have alot more empathy as well
Does he ship to Canada?
Great!! I’ve just started getting into the shrooms here in N New Mexico. Your channel is really helpful 😊
Heck yeah, love the channel. Thanks for taking the time to make videos. ✌
I’ve been trying to find Amanita mushrooms every day but I haven’t found any yet. I live on south Vancouver Island and we haven’t had rain in months. I hope they’ll start popping up when the rains come.
Absolutely love your videos, always wanted to know what I come across in the woods. My friends always ask me what is what when hiking. Growing in the shroming world you and the books I found are a big help. Bellingham WA
Good morning PNW. From southern Oregon.
Good morning!🍄🙏
💚 Oregon
Thanks for letting us know to Cook all mushrooms. Now I have a good excuse to eat them the way I like --sauteed in oil or butter! Yum!
I needed this!❤I’ve been learning about wild edibles for almost 4 years now.. and it gets frustrating sometimes when I feel like I should know so much more then I do already. So much information to absorb while still managing a home life etc. But I am determined! And your videos really help. Thanks Aaron.
Join a mythological society.
I don't honestly know which is harder to learn. I want to say plants but when it gets down to it, mushrooms can be just as much or even more tricky to identify.
This channel is pretty cool so far. I've only seen this video & one with Alan. I subscribed after the first video lol.
The long dry Summer was killing us here in NW Washington. it went over two months without it raining once here ugh. We can't wait to get out there and start finding some good specimens, especially since I've had your help teaching how to identify them. Thanks man. Happy Foraging everyone 😁
At least Gunner your dog finds them he dont mean to step on them , i once had a rat dog and he roll into the Black Morel patch before any one would get to them. You had to beat him to them before he got them smashed.
Those golden chanterelles are just meaty and beautiful!
Evolution of your videos is great. Keeps getting better and better. 👍
Thanks for all the great content
Huge fan of your videos. Wish you could come to Vancouver Island for an episode.
I love that you're helping put people at ease about mushroom hunting by pointing out how many people learn about plants and berries that are edible/poisonous. It's the same thing. You just have to learn the characteristics. It opens up such a new and wonderful world to be able to ID mushrooms, plants, and berries. Its a huge part of my life.
Hey Aaron, would love if you did a video in the San Juan’s, if you take a ferry from Anacortes to Friday harbor, the rest of the ferry rides are free going back east.
If I ever happen to be up that way I would love to. It's very similar habitat. But it's about four and a half hours to get up that way from here. Pretty busy with business and family in life, but maybe sometime!
@@mushroomwonderland1 if you ever do plan a trip up this way I’m happy to share some spots for the video so you don’t come up empty handed.
@@connormurphy3085 awesome, thanks, I'll keep that in mind🍄💯
Good left turn on the trippy mushrooms. Keep it safe..
Love the sound of the dog going everywhere in the background lol
love your videos man; i definitely need to learn a lot more, but it would be awesome to see more videos - especially some east coast - its all about getting out there and doing it though - and we've had a very dry summer - so - a wet fall so far - going this weekend - anyway - THANK you
Everything you said 👌 spot on! Similar views on mushrooms. I feel like our learning experience is very similar!
Love the new vid!
Love the video, but one correction; foxglove isn't a nightshade.
I have a 3 year old who is obsessed with mushrooms. I thought it was a passing phase, but every morning I ask her what she dreamed about she always tells me she dreamed about mushrooms. After work, I pick her up from daycare and we forage for mushrooms in the local parks. I never did so before and no absolutely nothing about mushrooms - other than watching your videos, do you have any advice for us? (We live in Songdo, Korea). Thank you 🙏 감사합니다 😊
Love you and your hound. Precious!
Hey Aaron how did you know that Amanita was Gemata and not Pantherinoides or Aprica when the varying colors can look so similar? Was it the gill detachment?
Abso love your content bro.
What are your favorite mushrooms to eat? Considering taste and texture. For me so far it's Morels for taste and Hen of the woods for texture. I've never had Truffles yet.
Awesome video! What about parasitic mushrooms?
12:10 but we do have 🐯🐅 in North America I seen some earlier this year at the zoo😉
Thank you for doing this channel and educating on mushrooms. There is a major fear for them here in norway and while out taking photos of different types i was approached just days ago by some random guy asking if i had lost something?? I gave him the time of day even tho im not a fan of strangers just coming up and talking to me but he decided to go super cringy and dumb and start talking about how there has been a problem with drugs and people looking for mushrooms. Firstly it was a park with a freshly cut grass so i was looking on fallen tree stumps taking photos not exactly where you would be looking for the DREADED liberty cap!!! 😂 i wasnt chill tho the guy looked like a fat alcho and i wasnt gona listen to the moron talk about drugs in the grass being a major problem for him. Just a tip to those out there over the years i have always given people the benifit of the doubt and it has always come to bite me in the arse. So if a random person approaches you for you doing your hobby and tries to dictate to u what u are and are NOT allowed to be doing in your free time that person honestly needs a punch in the head bcoz they are holding the world back but just make thm feel like idiots for getting their morols and fears from their governments. Its like these people all willing stopped trying to learn anything once they were done with school… 😢
So the aminta muscaria is edible??
Only if specially prepared, but it contains toxic compounds that can make you very ill. It's considered toxic.
I would never eat any kind of amaneta. They are the most deadly mushroom in the world. You don't know you've been poisoned for about 24 hours after eating them. By the time you get sick your internal organs have been turned to mush. Not worth the risk to get high.
I tend not to worry about the allergic reaction as I plan to only eat a couple of grams at a time.... For testing purposes. 😏
Dog helping in foraging mushrooms..
