    Time to look at updating our 2 100amp hour batteries. That single unit 410amp hour set-up looks great. This will definitely change your options for overnight's when you two travel. Enjoy the 2024 plans, looking forward to more videos.

    Great video; snacks are good anytime, anywhere 😄 I currently have (2) 200ah setup, and definitely want to upgrade to (2) 410ah setup in near future. I too wanted to secure my batteries from sliding side to side. So I designed and 3D printed ABS feet to secure the batteries at the corners. I can't attached a picture to this comment. If you are interested, let me know.

    When you upgrade your solar panels you may want to look at portable ones . We have 2 200watt renogy solar suitcases with 50ft cord . Benefits are movable and change the angle get sun early and later . Our roof ones are not as effective.
    We have gotten 135ah each per day in July at twin lakes Colorado.
    Here in Michigan lot of shade if we get 80 or 90 ah a day each on a good day .

    • @RVUntethered

      We may not be making any solar upgrades at the moment, but we have seen those portable panels and wondered how they worked. Thanks for the info! I do like that option, as opposed to stacking more on the roof.

    Just keep in mind that lithium does not charge when it is below a certain temp. I moved all my batteries to the basement behind the false wall, since that area stays warm with the furnace.

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  6 місяців тому

      That is really what I’d like to do. I’m just not sure I can tackle that rat’s nest and fit it in there. But it would be my preferred way. Hmmm. My wheels are turning! 🙂

  • @HomeOnWheels320MKS
    @HomeOnWheels320MKS 6 місяців тому +2

    Did you think about mounting the battery vertical to save room? I'm with you on cleaning up the rats nest behind the wall. My intent is to do this when I replace the water heater plastic check valve with a brass one, your year probably doesn't have one of these known failure points with the On Demand water heater.
    Question, how does the "On Demand" water heater work while Boondocking? Is it hard to take a Navy shower and not freeze?

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  6 місяців тому +1

      I like the idea of that, but the company recommended mounting the battery flat, so that’s what I did.
      We love the tankless water heater, but water conservation can get tough. Not that we boondock very often, but you do have to get creative. We keep a cup in the shower, that we use for shaving. We heat up water for face washing at night. That alone saves quite a bit. I have heard that there are slower-flow shower heads that help as well. We wouldn’t give up the tankless, but maybe if we boondocked more, it would be a bigger problem.

  • @AKRichardM

    Read the specs carefully. Redodo mentions on their site that low temperature protection is disabled within the BMS. Lithium iron batteries can be damaged by charging when the internal temperature is below freezing.

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  6 місяців тому

      Yes, thank you for mentioning that. We are hopefully avoiding more of those low temps, but we put our Govee temp monitor in that bay, so we can keep a close eye on it.

  • @warrenlancaster5780

    Cody, Great upgrade. But, Did you remember that frozen water tank. That Lithium Battery, you will damage it charging under 32 degree unless it has a low temp protection. If you do it won't charge below 32 degrees. So either way recommend some type of heat source and a way to monitor the temp at the battery. With GOVEE you can monitor lots of areas. I have one on my tanks, at my water pump, on my lithium batteries, one in the cabin, and one outside. Check them out.

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  6 місяців тому

      We love Govee! I think you’re right about getting some more. I don’t want to lose my house, temp monitor for too long.
      Our battery has a BMS (battery management system). Although I hope to stay out of the cooler temps for a bit, we have a few ideas on how to put a heat source in there. Thank you for the reminder! I haven’t figured out quite the best way to do that yet. 😬 It may be a good excuse to stay South! 😁

    Great information. Looking at your future plans, we live in Alabama and have RV'd 30 plus years. We HIGHLY recommend COE "Gunter Hill" in Montgomery.
    We also HIGHLY recommend not staying in Birmingham. If you travel just a little farther North to Cullman, there are decent campgrounds like Smith Lake and Hwy 278 will take you straight into Tupelo.

    Looking forward to seeing how this works out for you. I've considered a similar upgrade. That is, a capacity boost without doing a megabuck full off-grid solution. My TT has a single LA battery and 250W panel. It does ok running the 12v refrigerator on a travel day but would be nice to have more run time or cloudy day coverage. Have you considered running a DC/DC charger off your truck for travel days? That's also on my wish list. When I ordered my truck, I got the 440A dual alternator option so can go fairly big on mine. 80-100A seems where I want to go, depending on how I'm feeling when I eventually click the "buy now" button LOL.

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  6 місяців тому +1

      I am familiar with the DC/DC option, but I am scared to look at pricing for that. Ha! We noticed while driving, that the battery came up a little over 10% in 3 hours. I’m not sure we will need it for our type of travel, since we don’t boondock too much. But, that is how this normally goes! Ha! There is always something that we could put on these things!

    • @redforeman-404
      @redforeman-404 6 місяців тому

      @@RVUntethered of course I looked it up after the fact LOL. A 50A Victron is about $320. I'd probably stop with that, but they can be paralleled just buy more. Add in some fat wire from the truck batteries to the camper, terminals, connectors, etc I'd expect to hit $500-ish without too much effort. I already have the big hydraulic crimper and tools for the job, so that could also be a factor for some. I'll probably do it right after the first time I get to the destination and food is spoiled from a dead battery.

      We had two lead acid batteries originally (one stock and one added). But this lithium battery has capacity that is equivalent to four lead acid batteries.
      We had someone tell us that it could be equivalent to eight lead acids batteries, since you can’t run them down past 50% and lithium can run to zero without damage. They aren’t necessarily wrong. It has added a lot to our options.
