The male budgie my family had years ago would show plenty of excitement every time he'd see a piece of fruit/vegetable or even egg yolk in my hands, heading for his cage! Before eating, he would chirp loudly, moving his head up and down, then approach the piece of food and gently touch it with his foot and beak, while leaning closer and murmuring softly to it. It was like he was making a love confesssion to his treats before eating them, lol! I miss him so, watching him being like this would cheer up even the worst days... He had such a character!

I’m close to your age, a bit older, and I’m trying to convince my mum to get a budgie
My last budgie lived for 14 years 4 months. She lived on a seed and grain mix, millet and honey sticks. They are native to Australia and are ground feeding seed eaters. It was a beautiful sight to see large flocks of budgies in the wild, although they are considered by some to be pests.
Mines never eat the fruit or veggies they just look at it and fly away

@@amandakay789 I buy Kaytee honey flavoured treat sticks. I usually use Kaytee gourmet recipe seeds. I also feed Moore's millet seeds. I live in Canada.
@@jocelynkelland287 ok but I can't seem to feed my parakeet anything else but sun flower seeds AND just sun flower seeds he doesn't even eat any other seed i think it's because the shop we got him from would treat all the animals very poorly they put like 10 rabbits in 1 small cage so I think they only feed the birds sunflower seeds not only did they sale only sunflowers seeds but yeah can you help me change his diet?
@@sherazali3751 I'm not an expert, but I think if you offer a variety of seeds at the same time but not in the same cup. I hang millet in one part of the cage and a honey sick on another wall plus the regular food in his cup. It not only adds a variety of food but gives the bird something to think about. You can also stop feeding for a couple of hours then try feeding from your hand. This works particularly well for male birds I've had. I hope this helps 🙂

10-30% seeds 50-70% pellets (i recommend tops, zupreem, or roudybush) 10-20% vegetables and occasional fruits (just because fruits are high in sugar) bgut introducing budgies to new diets is very hard so do lots of research and be patient
Zupreem pellets have soy, corn, artificial color, sugar, and vegetable oil. It's like junk food to birds. I recommend Top's pellets. It's cold pressed, does not have corn, soy, sugars, and random ingredients.
my birds taught each other, since they came from differnt backrounds, my yellow (Banana) one taught the one from Petsmart how to eat veggies, and I blend pellets with seed and veggies on the side, my babies are super healthy

My budgies were not eating banana. So I dipped their banana in their trio mixed seeds and they liked it. By this way I comforted them having banana. Now they have banana without dipping them in their seeds!

I gave them a grape and my budgie thew a mini tantrum
Maybe cut them up into smaller pieces and mix with seeds/pellets
I give them fruit with seed on them, they eat the seed and accidentally taste a little bit of the fruit, then they love it.

I don't get why 750 people dislike these videos. What the hell do they find wrong in these videos? These videos are the best and very helpful
They arent actually good info first of no millet in the cage, pellets should be base food (cold pressed) seeds only in foraging toys fruits at a max 3 times per week and a veggie chop with each veggie benefiting a specific part of the birds body for them to get proper nutrients.

I tried mixing vegies with millet, but These birds are as clever as humans, Every morning I would Watch them just staring at the millet and picking one by one

My budgies will only eat apples tried every trick I saw with other veggies and fruits (dipping them in seeds, cutting small pieces and mixing them into seed-pellet mix, cutting into different shapes, taking the seed-pellet mix out and just leaving fresh food, eating in front of them, etc)

Day before Yesterday I found a budgie under the tree in my Hostel his both legs were broken. He couldn't stand, laying on his side. He tried to fly but he keeps falling.
I take him to my Hostel room,give him food and water(he doesn't eat) and keep him in a shoe box (I made many hole through that). I tried my best to reduce his pain but he keeps hitting himself ( he is afraid of human). That night it was with me. On the morning I again tried to feed him but he didn't eat. I kept him in sun light coming from window. And there is no sign of recovery.
On the next day I have an exam and because of him I couldn't study so I called my friend.
Sadly, me and my friend decided that we should let him go.
Then we put him in the balcony he was not ready to fly, looking at me but then he flew towards the tree and sit on the branch and then i left...
After two hours I couldn't stop my self and I came back to my room but that budgie was not on the tree. I was searching for him in the hostel but couldn't find him........
I am feeling so depressed.
I couldn't stop thinking about him.

My budgie loves blueberries, apple, cherries, hardboiled egg, watermelon, carrots, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes, bok choy, yu choy, lettuce, spinach, grape tomatoes, cucumber, pineapple, papaya. Basically whatever veg and fruits I eat, he eats. He has been with me for 5 years and he was already an adult when I adopted him from the humane society. He was caught outside apparently. He was already at least 1-2 years old when I adopted him as he does not look like a juvenile. So he's now around 7-8 if not more years old.

Just one tip, mirros AREN'T good for birds, but overall, this is a great video.
Potato Chip, they think that the mirror reflection is another bird and try to bond with it, trying to feed it and so on, imagine you in a enclosed area with a mirror, not knowing what it is, and thinking your reflection is another person.
Mirrors are good for birds because it helps promote the idea of a flock. It is not a bad thing for them to think there are other birds, that's the point. Most birds (including budgies) are flock animals and mirrors in their cage help promote the idea of a larger flock. They dont try to feed the other budgie, they just interact with the mirror.
They're okay for a little bit. Mirrors also substitute other birds and if you have a mirror up for a little bit, it gives you time to get another bird for them.

They can be good, but you should never keep one in its cage at all times. Maybe once a week, then trade it out for another toy. That's what I do, and my budgies see it as like a playdate with a friend!

Your budgie only eats seeds because thats whats natural for it. Fruit is something the humans introduced to it and its not natural for it. Parsley is the only fruit im okay giving my budgies since they love it in their baths. And apple leaves and sticks, set those in the cage so they have something to nibble.

Spend time with him I brought 2 of them one flew away and one was well taimed the need toys or another like them or human attention
I've tamed a budgie from a petstore. What you need is a lot of time and patience. Put your hand just on the door of the cage opened and don't move. It can take hours and many days until your bird is comfy with your presence and then move your hands into the cage pick a spot and again don't move for at least 30 mins to an hour at a time. I guarantee you it'll work but it may take weeks to get there. My budgie became very tame and would sit on my hair shoulder etc lol.
@@pikabird is 100% spot on. Just got my baby budgie to eat out if my hand. Took him about 10 mins before he was comfortable with my hand being there. No quick movements which may scare them. Gaining their trust takes time

MalfuNCTion Culture Technology you can cover the fruits in water at place seeds on them but he does have a video on a Apple seed cake for budgies
At times instead of the seeds introduce Vegetables and fruits ( Permitted ones ) slowly ... they will catch it up with time. I removed the seeds in the breakfast time and introduced vegetables cabbage, spinach, peas chopped in small bits and after 2-3 hours later gave then them the seeds ( Yellow Millet their best choice ) .... now they are slowly getting used to it. Hope this will be helpful... let me know if that helped .

Keep trying!! My budgies didn't know what it was at first but after a couple of days they started to check it out & now they love it. I used oranges & bananas at first, changing them out every day.

I ran out of seeds today and I don't get my check until Tuesday it is Sunday now but we have veggies and fruit I feed them variety so I gave my budgies a mix of brown rice and fresh frozen vegetables for dinner tonight its only for two days I will take them out to exercise tomorrow for a few hours their wings are clipped I bought them from a petstore I need to buy a big wide cage and get 3 more budgies to even out the number 8 lol I am physically disabled so I am with them 24/7 they bring me joy I play video games for them

Treats (millet) for training
And budgie/cockatiel vitamins
And of course they always find away to steal my food 😂
(If u are finding it hard to feed pellets grind them up and sprinkle on seed! And veggies? Put in between cage bars, they will chew on it because they think it’s a toy, this is how I got them to eat these things)

im anonymous eggs are not necessary as long as your bird isnt laying eggs. The only reason theyd need them is if they need to replenish the nutrients they lost from laying.
