Ey Iran (Persian: ای ایران, [ʔej ʔiːˈɾɒːn]) is an Iranian nationalist song that is regarded by some the country's unofficial national anthem. The music was composed by Ruhollah Khaleghi, and the lyrics were written by Hossein Gol-e-Golab.
"Ey Irān" was composed in 1944 in Tehran. The lyrics were written by Hossein Gol-e-Golab, and the music was composed by Ruhollah Khaleqi. The song was first performed and recorded by the classical Persian music singer Gholam-Hossein Banan.
Gol-e-Golab was inspired to write the song by his patriotism. He was quoted as saying: "In 1944, the footsteps of the invading armies in the streets were enough to rattle any patriot and inspired me to write this anthem. Professor Ruhollâh Kâleqi wrote the music and despite all the political opposition, it found its way into the heart and soul of the people."
For decades, many groups and singers have performed "Ey Irân". Among the most popular renditions is a 1991 version arranged for voice, choir and orchestra by Golnuš Xāleqi, the daughter of Ruhollâh Kâleqi. In this version, the vocal soloists were Rashid Vatandust and Esfandiar Gharabaghi.

Well if you carefully look at the national emblem also shown in the video for this anthem then you will see that the shield has four sections, each representing core national symbols of Iran. Among them is the Zulfiqar (sword of Imam Ali) which is obviously a religious symbols relating to Islam.

The Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran and the resultant occupation resulted in the hurt of the national pride of many. One day the author sees a British soldier slap an Iranian soldier who had a higher rank in the face but the Iranian soldier could do nothing. This broke his heart so he went home and wrote this anthem.
