except that konitz and billy taylor are new yorkers. its a tad of a media falsehood to label cool jazz west coast. lester young started it (kansas city), bird continued it (see: cool jazz), miles did it, and then there are the lennie tristano recordings from the 40's which are seminal cool jazz with konitz, marsh, billy bauer, etc.....but it is true, there were a lot of cool jazz types in the l.a. area...
