To answer your question of “Why did Goku give up with Cell just for Gohan to take over?” Well… that’s not a Wukong thing, that’s a Toriyama thing. Initially he wanted the torch to be passed on so that Gohan would eventually be the MC, but due to incredible popularity of Goku, Tori decided to keep him in. Think about this… Toriyama himself tried to kill off Son Goku, but Son Wukong’s immortality was so strong, his Japanese counterpart (prolly one of his reincarnated clones) couldn’t even die to essentially the God of DBZ original plan. Something to consider when talking about immortality is that it means u live forever. Not that u cant die necessarily. In marvel Thor speaks on this concept in which he is an immortal God, he will live eternally but can still be killed
There are plenty of concepts of immortality. I think the one that fits Wukong is that he will always be reincarnated making him immortal in existence. He can “die” but its more like he just respawns
funny thing about the book of the dead situation afro. he literally made death himself erase his name from the book making him officially unkillable. however he ,ived 374 days before being sealed inside that rock on top of his mountain. its also why during the start of the game you had no health bar because you were quite literally unkillable. id also love to point out there is a reference to this book of the dead situation because the max level in black myth is 374. the same number of days wukong lived before being sealed away. and because sun wukong erased his name from the book of the dead. the name no longer existed which is why nobody specifically refered to him as sun wukong but great sage. because he no longer had a name.
One thing many people forget about wukong. He's not just powerful, he's a trickster. He enjoys fighting sure. But he also loves to mess with people. One of the go to tricks while in the journey was to turn into a small insect and spy on whichever demons was kidnapping tripitaka. He'll play immortal russian roulette with some immortal taoists.
The layers of immortality are there because the gods in Buddhism have various ways of nullifying immortality. And the Buddha referred to in wukong’s legend is the original, the first to attain enlightenment. Afterwards Buddha hood was treated as status for people to aspire to
As a buddhist myself originally from Nepal but currently living in Halifax. I 💯 agree. Imagine kratos and wukong on the next big project from Santa Monica and Game science working together to make our fanatsy happen. That would be game of the century.
There were a lot of Buddhas berfore Buddha Ru Lai (Siddharta Gautama, the one you're referring and the one in this Myth). He's the one who's coined the term Buddha and found Budhism as religion. Buddha is not a title. It means someone who reach enlightment.

He crossed his name from the book of death to escape death itself. But if I remember correctly, he ate the magic pills and magic peaches just because he's a monkey and he likes to eat stuff. In short, he really doesn't give a shit. 😂😂😂
Quite right actually. The only immortality Wukong aimed for was achieved during his apprenticeship under Master Bodhi. After that, everything that related to more immortality is just monkey business. 😅
I was playing hide and seek with my nephew, he's 5 years old. When I find him, he goes "Nuh-uh, BARRIER" and apparently he's now immune. It's never his turn to seek. Sun Wukong is that kind of hero.
Yo I really liked this video, I liked how you were just watching it regularly with us and not constantly pausing it. It felt like we were really watching it together. W vid Afro 💜
I dont remember if he says it in the video but if Wukong makes a clone out of himself, that clone can make another clone, that can make another clone, and so goes on. Now imagine if he makes 84.000 clones (one for each hair on his body) and each one of those can make 84.000 more clones, that each can make 84.000 more clones and so goes on, each as powerful as the original. All that you have to kill 72 times (for the 72 transformations) and he is immortal. That blew my mind. (Sorry if you cant understand english is not my first language)
72 x 84000...yeah, no one beating that, and the 84000 can just make more of the specified clones...yup, he be infinitely producing clones that ALL have the 72 layers, only to realize you can't even kill ONE of the fucking clones. Jesus,
Dont forget Budda put that golden head band on WuKong's head as he was flying as a bird in the beginning of the game. We all know he aint dead, he is probably just subdued and held under some kind of mountain and the head band. The golden head band was put on WuKong by the budda and it can NOT be removed(only by the budda), and the head band can tighten so tight to where WuKong feels like his head is bout to explore, and this is put on his head so someone can control WuKong.
The funny thing is that headband is the main reason the story can make somewhat sense because at the end of The Journey to The West the Headband was removed, and still he should not have "died". That's my only gripe with the story though they kind of made up for it by Erlang Shen saying "no one can kill him, except himself"
@@timtron123 yeah, that headband is the exact reason why he is "killing" himself. So that he can rebirth without it and he can't rebirth in a traditional way like mortals hence the whole shenanigans
he literally did killed himself 😅. that's y we are playing as wukong but not the complete version of him. we are the reincarnation of him, free from the headband @@timtron123
In Buddhism, being reborn is a cycle you want to escape. True immortality is literal, Wukong wanted to be untouchable, undying, heavens equal. His rebirth was planned because of the Buddhas circlet, where death is the only escape from a power that limits his own.
1:41, sun Wukong has achieved 7 layers of immortality in the myth. Martial art practices of immortality, wrote his name out of the death book for immortality, ate the peaches of immortality from the heavenly realm, ate some pills of immortality, when he gets captured he was put into a furnace to be burnt alive only for it to burn off his mortal body making him immortal again and a few more that I can’t remember off the top of my head. I will let you figure out how strong he is but to say one of his feats. He could circle the earth seven times from just one front flip jump. Also the staff that you use was actually a heavenly pillar that was used to measure the depths of the ocean which is why it can change its shape
@@goofygoof212 Yes & no. Wukong when we was going out to the edge of the universe from just a front flip, it was done in under 5 minutes, where the length to it takes others years to even get closer to it. There’s also the reflexes that are faster than light, him copying his opponents feats to battle them so whatever goku could do, he would just copy and make better use of, and the fact that he is usually holding himself back during fights. Wukong could just end almost any fight from his laser vision that he used from birth.
To answer the question about the peaches. Wukong was recruited to the celestial court because of his strength and they wanted him in their camp as a means of controlling him, so they promised him to be a part of them and have a title. They basically made him a stable boy, and he wasn’t really feeling that, so to calm him, they put him in charge of the garden where the peaches grew. I think it took 3,000 years for the peaches to ripen, and once they were, there were be festivities where they made the peaches into wine. Wukong overseeing the garden ate all the peaches, crashed the party and stole the wine
Yes, he was already ready strong before Journey to the west. The only solution was to seal him. The game "Black Myth" means "What if", what if after his Journey, stuffs in the game happened. Remember story of the game does not exist. Wukong and his crews reached enlightenment at the end of the journey to the west. The dev knows better not to mess with the original source.
Yup. I hope people realize Black Myth story is created by the dev and not part of the original story. In my opinion, Wukong would never have given up his Buddhahood, because that is simply not possible. Reach Victorious Fighting Buddha means Wukong is now truly omnipotent and unbeatable and his power and abilities is limitless and there is no headband that still binds him. He can remove it himself like the Buddha does because he is the Buddha too.
At the beginning of the story, he did, in a certain sense, "die," but he didn't truly perish. His six divine consciousnesses were transformed into six relics, which were then entrusted by Erlang Shen to the guardians of each chapter's boss. Moreover, when Chinese people talk about "immortality," they don't mean being completely indestructible; it usually refers to having an almost infinite lifespan. However, there are many immortals and demons who are truly indestructible, and Sun Wukong is clearly one of them. He couldn't be killed, so Erlang Shen had to divide his body into six parts and entrust each part to the guardians of different bosses.
Now thinking about the Bodhi Patriarch who taught Wukong, Journey to the West seems to be merely the concluding event in the larger Fengshen Yanyi universe. The richness and vastness of this mythological universe are beyond imagination.

Actually, Buddhahood is higher level than god level. In the Dharma (Buddhist's scripture), It is describe that Buddha visited God, the one who he is the creator, which the Indians call him Brahma. And this God thought he was all powerful and Omnipotent. So the Buddha challenge the God who is all seeing, that he can't find where Buddha hides. So Buddha disappears and the God uses his power and he was shock that he cannot locate Buddha, he search all the realms he created and every where in all multi-verse and still can't find Buddha. And he thought maybe the Buddha no longer exist and then he heard Buddha whisper these words "I exist in a place even you don't know where it is". That is when God realize he was not the most powerful. And Buddha then explain to the God how he came to be.

Wukong got into Heaven in the first place because they literally invited him there with a job offer and a fancy title, "Keeper of the Heavenly Horses", to keep him busy and stop him causing trouble. This plan actually worked surprisingly well...for a little while at least.

14:16 yeah nooooo his fighting skills are all natural but he gained the whole copy abilities as he got older and stronger way before he eat those peaches or pills in all honesty it's been a while since i read the story but to my knowledge, he all ways had the copy abilities but he just didnt really use them till he started to pick fights with the jade palace and the other gods
The concept of immortality in JTTW is like a scarce resource. You can renew your life length through various means, such as eating haven peaches(some could renew hundred years, some could renew thousand years, distribute based on ranks), eating pills, or Daoism/Buddha practices. The boundary between Gods and Yaoguais is very blurred. If one has been officially appointed/recognized by the celestial court, then he is a god, otherwise, those potent beings are often referred as Yaoguai.
Funny my comment on the last video said you need to know the story more and i got so much hate from the people just for saying that. Now we got a recap Ep lol. Thats dope, respect for being dedicated to the story

Stuff like this catches my interest. There's something about supernatural phenomenons and science fiction that makes me want to know more. It's like being outside the box. I enjoyed this video.
I am not highly knowledgeable about Chinese mythology. Most of my knowledge comes from fiction and fanfiction. So please excuse any mistakes: 1. So immortality here in the Chinese mythology, has many meanings and from what I know, it doesn't mean you can't be killed. It usually means you can't age. Immortal beings can kill or seal one another just fine. 2. There are different layers of immortality. Like a 2nd level or 3rd level immortal can easily snuff out a first level immortal. 3. Buddhism, Taoism, etc are different ways/paths through which one can achieve immortality. And it takes a long amount of time. Like thousands of years. Sun Wukong just speed run the whole thing by eating a lot of ultra rare peaches that they were saving up. 4. The end goal of those who practice Buddhism is to achieve Buddha, which means reach the level of enlightenment of Buddha and become equal to Buddha at the end. They say anyone and anything can be Buddha but they don't call anyone Buddha other than the real one. 5. Sun Wukong was sealed and his headband(crown) that is shown in the beginning while falling is the item that seals him. I don't know the story of Black Myth Wukong, so I don't know why he fell/ So hope this helps Afro! 😄
I am the textbook example of a Goku glazer. I am the one that goes into comment sections acting obnoxious being like "Can he beat Goku tho? Goku solos. No beating Goku tho." etc etc. And even I know that Goku is never touching Sun Wukong at all. Sun Wukong is INSANLY powerful.
The way you read is close to how me and my son read, broken. The only way I have seen to combat it is reading more to decrease how long it takes me to regurgitate the information in a format I can use. Lol gotta love that broken eye and brain connection.
7:43 - 8:06 when someone say they have "become buddha" or "become a buddha" what they are saying is that they have reached enlightenment or Nirvana. Saying you have literally BECOME buddha is inaccurate though. When people refer to THE Buddha, they mean the original buddha who first reached enlightenment under the tree, and the buddha is the example that all Buddhist strive towards. The Buddha is an individual like Jesus, but only in myth like Wukong is he depicted as a whole ass anime god being. In actual Buddhism the Buddha himself is not all that important, rather the principles and aspects that his journey and enlightenment represent, and what all humans should strive towards. I am not a Buddhist btw, this is an outside explanation so I doubt its 100% accurate
I don't think you understand, the only way Kratos, any version of Kratos, could defeat wukong is before Wukong got invited to heaven. like best time is after he practiced the daoi and gain the 72 transformation. like that would be hard diff for young kratos with the blade of olympus. once Wukong was in heaven and did the whole shenanigans of eating the immortal peaches, drinking the immortal wine, and drinking the immortal pills. he was going to destroy heaven after that. Even Erlang Shan, who was the greatest warrior of heaven at the time, could only defeat him long enough so they can restrain him.
I actually think the only time Kratos could defeat Wukong is before Wukong learn his 72 transformation skill. Once he learned that, Wukong is hard to beat as his skills will allow him many ways to win against Kratos. So I think Kratos has to fight a raw Wukong, the one that was just borned from the rock.

Some settings may seem strange, because it's in a very different cultural backgrounds. For instance, peaches have always been a symbol of longevity in Chinese culture. If you search for images of the Chinese God of Longevity on google, you will often find that he is depicted holding a large peach, that's the background in the setting of Journey to the West where eating celestial peaches grants you immortality
He held up the universe on one shoulder. Technically he carried a mountain that was said to carry the firmament so all of heaven and everything therein

So many people seem to think that Sun Wukong 72 transformation mean there are 72 forms he can turn into, but it is actually 72 kind of skill/spell:
1: Freely come and go between the Underworld and the Living World.

20: Making clone of yourself.
21: Invisibility.
22: Live without a head.

28: Calling cloud.
29: Catch the moon.

41: Clairvoyance.
42: Territory Creation.
43: Shapeshift.

45: Change object by point the finger at it.
46: A better version of spell 19 that just leave behind some clothes or equipment.
47: Making illusion.
48: Calling object to you.
49: Return the object back.
50: Beast dialogue and control.
51: Bird dialogue and control.
52: Live without breathing.
53: Monstrous strength.
54: Go through rock.
55: Eyes glowing. Can actually shoot strong light: Eyes Beam.
56: Making medicine, pill and elixir. Different kind of medicine compare to spell 13, but still the divine kind.
57: Know the way to go. The reason why he is always in front. Just relate to direction.
58: Eating anything without harm.
59: Walk through wall.
60: Super jump.
61: Grow another head since just spell 22 is inconvenient.
62: Steal. You know like Kazuma from Konosuba?
63: Unlimited stomach.
64: Withstand the snow and the cold.
65: Withstand the sun.
66: Medical skill. Doctor Wukong is here.
67: Magical skill. He can even be a magus, this monkey. Caster class?
68: Making medicine, pill and elixir. The normal kind.
69: Know the time. Like having a clock of the place.
70: Know the place. Like having a map of the place.
71: "Mist Eating", basically living by just eating energy in the air.
72: Mind/Psychic attack. He actually use this to speak to other's mind instead of learning some telepathy.
Finally someone said it. Just like you i grew up watching it in the 90s.

People still do refer to him as Sun Wukong, im pretty sure the baby monk literally said his name during the watermelon scene.
A lot of people still refer to him as sun wukong.

Afterwards Buddha hood was treated as status for people to aspire to
true immortality in Buddhism is enlightenment or buddhahood
As a buddhist myself originally from Nepal but currently living in Halifax. I 💯 agree. Imagine kratos and wukong on the next big project from Santa Monica and Game science working together to make our fanatsy happen. That would be game of the century.

I’m actually really glad that you gave insight to your dyslexia because I’ve been watching you since the sekiro days and it’s been rough watching you mispronounce everything over the years😭 but I understand now, I didn’t know how bad it actually is.
He crossed his name from the book of death to escape death itself. But if I remember correctly, he ate the magic pills and magic peaches just because he's a monkey and he likes to eat stuff. In short, he really doesn't give a shit. 😂😂😂
That sums up Wukon's character pretty much. He's a monkey, he don't give a shit 😂😂
And heavenly wine
The golden circlet is such an important detail that these videos don't mention.
The funny thing is that headband is the main reason the story can make somewhat sense because at the end of The Journey to The West the Headband was removed, and still he should not have "died". That's my only gripe with the story though they kind of made up for it by Erlang Shen saying "no one can kill him, except himself"
@@funnerzthey did mention it you guys just don’t listen
@@timtron123 yeah, that headband is the exact reason why he is "killing" himself. So that he can rebirth without it and he can't rebirth in a traditional way like mortals hence the whole shenanigans

In their world reincarnation is considered to be invincible that's what they mean when they say that!
that’s what im getting from it
In Buddhism, being reborn is a cycle you want to escape. True immortality is literal, Wukong wanted to be untouchable, undying, heavens equal.
His rebirth was planned because of the Buddhas circlet, where death is the only escape from a power that limits his own.
I never even knew you had dyslexia you play it off so well, respect and love the content❤
This doesnt make me thing goku would lose tho…cant goku just blow him up till he got no immortality left

Sun Wukong is at the level where a tie is the worst outcome for him since both characters are so off the charts killing them is impossible.
I love that he's trying to learn but just a simple short explanation of journey to the west would've explained everything

You'll understand the game's story once you finish the game with the true ending my man.

Wukong achieving buddhahood basically became god and he definitely matured. he no longer sought to constantly beat shit up. As someone who read the whole journey to the west translated to english, this video series is almost 1 to 1 of what I read. ua-cam.com/video/61nuXrvqNgI/v-deo.html
But that was the best part! 😢

I am not highly knowledgeable about Chinese mythology. Most of my knowledge comes from fiction and fanfiction. So please excuse any mistakes:
I don't know the story of Black Myth Wukong, so I don't know why he fell/
So hope this helps Afro! 😄

Lore accurate Wukong can just drop 100 Kratos to fight Kratos and just chill. The only reason Erlang Shen "beat" Wukong is to fake his death.
I love how Afro is taking a step back to learn and understand the story

LMAO i had just watched the same video last night, its SUPER well done!
Was fun as hell going down this rabbit hole with you afro😂🤝🏾 wouldnt mind doing this with other stuff youre trying to learn about💯
