What is great about this review, is the fact that you've picked the same colour for the watches , same bands and same watch faces. This makes the perfect comparison .
This was perfect. Wish more people would do this type of review because I was really leaning towards the 51 but after this I’m liking the 47 more and more - thx!!!
So glad it helped!! Both are spectacular choices, and Garmin really makes it simply an aesthetic choice this year. I know 47MM will be right for 80%+ of people, I bet.
Thank you! My wrist also has 7” circumference and I bought 47mm about 3 weeks ago. After seeing your video I tried 51mm and loved them! I am keeping 51mm.
Good video, but what has surprised me the most is how nicely white band goes with black watch. What is the exact type/model of this band? I’ve scrolled entire Garmin store and couldn’t find the one you’re wearing.
I don’t understand why Garmin didn’t include a 1.5’’ screen on the 51 mm version; they could have. However, I think a larger screen would require a more powerful processor and a bigger battery. I believe they will address this in future versions.
I like more the slimmer bezel in the 47mm. 51 mm should increase the screen sizen to 1.5 at least . Or put more solar ring in the solar version but with the bezel size of the 47mm.
Thanks for this information! I just wish that I had seen it sooner. I just ordered the 47mm solar last night and was considering the 51mm. My wrist is the same as yours. I also didn’t realize that the bands were different. But very useful info. When mine gets here I can see what works for me. I can always send it back and get the 51mm.
@@chriscarpunky I went with the 47mm. It’s very comfortable and I have been wearing it to bed. The strap that it comes with is very comfortable but I’ll be getting a nylon band too. Where did you get your strap from?
PERFECT comparison. Thank you! Imho the difference is not really big, when looking at the diameter. But the height is indeed really bulky! Love that and decided to go with the 51mm, since i love the tool watch style with the maximum possible battery life.
Thanks for this. For some reason I kept thinking the 51mm would be huge vs the 47mm. I'm the same size as you - I think I might end up pulling the trigger on the 51mm. I like the beefier look. Thanks for the comparison! Super helpful! Now I just have to decide black or silver 🤔
Thanks man! Hopefully not too much rambling...but I wanted to focus on a lot of showing the watches. Glad it helped! Yeah, I finally decided to keep the 51MM. It's beefy but the balance is supreme.
Even though I would go for 47mm, but I have to say the 51m looks better, mainly because the thicker band and bigger bezel. the thinner band on 47mm make the watch itself looks too big...
Great video, I sent back the 51mm just because I’m constantly feeling it on my wrist. Also sleeping was annoying. I purchased the enduro 3 Way lighter with the 51mm size👍
24mm should be industry standard in my opinion. 26mm is ok with me tho. Garmins new 51mm is chunky, the enduro 3 even has a smaller fit then the new Fenix 8 51mm.
Greta video thanks. I’ve noticed in low evening light, in the house for example, the brightness even when set to full, just is not bright enough for me to read the watch well. I’ve got to literally shine my phone light on the watch to make the brightness fuller. Is there a fix for this that you’re aware of?
@@SammyGeek Thanks for reply. Yes, it is indeed a difficult decision, because if on the one hand the 51 is more elegant and more masculine, on the other hand, paying 100 euros more for it is not worth it, especially if the watch is only to be used in context sports like in my case. Congratulation for the video.
Even after all the firmware updates to fix all the launch issues, is there still no way to reply to texts other than the "quick replies" and assistant?
Yes I just got the fenix 8 amoled today and it does in fact work with I phone and can make calls with it. Speaker isn’t very loud but you can def hear it and have a conversation for sure
Great video, ty. Still, I dont find it too different. 4mm plus slight thickness between them. Even though my wrists are smaller, I find the size negligible, though am thinking of running into a dealer and testing it out.
Hello, you have made a beautiful video, I have a question, I am trying to buy the Garmin fenix 8 51mm, is it worth buying 1200 euros for what the smartwatch offers, how do you say, give me an opinion?
It's very expensive, no doubt, but Garmin is the top gold standard for a sports and health tracker, in my opinion. There are other good brands out there for less, but you'll pay for the flagship Garmin. I'd recommend them to anyone who's serious about tracking health and fitness.
If you rec dive at all, it’s totally worth the price, if you don’t dive…. You should haha. If you dont dive the discounts on the epix 2 pro are amazing and it is pretty much the same watch without the dive features.
Thanks for the video! You helped me decide as I’m getting the Amoled 51mm today. Graduating from my Fenix 3 HR which I’ve been using for many many years!
The difference in thickness and weight tend to be the deciding factor on my side. I can pull off the 51mm but it feels an order of magnitude larger with those factors during daily wear. If it was only worn during workouts I’d go larger.
Problem is showing most wrist shots with wrist turned as if to view the time. This rotates radius/ulna bones over each other (google the movement of bones) and makes the wrist narrower and square. Sizing should be done palm to belly in the mirror, with the radius/ulna separated and with the wrist in it's most common state of bones apart and the wrist in its wider, more rectangle state. This is what most people will see on you, and the "fit" most of the time, except when turning to view the time. I have 6.75"/173mm wrist and prefer the 51mm sizes for screen and battery. I also have thinner wrists with more muscular forearms, and the 51mm doesn't look too big. In front of the camera, palm to belly is the better way to size and show. Very helpful vid in the comparison.
I don't have a large wrist and went into the shop to buy the 47mm. But the band lookedcso child like so I bought the 51mm and couldn't be happier, 12 days battery life, great watch it is so confortable on my hand Unless you have child like wrist go 51mm
You have to be out of your mind to buy garmin when other companies like samsung with the "ultra" are half the price that can be traded in after years of use and updated....garmin does not support their products nearly as well as samsung. Dont get stuck with a $1000.00 paper weight like I did....garmin customer service is the worst.
That's weird, I do still use a "Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire" I bought on July 2018 and it works just as new, not to mention it still receives software updates regularly. Ironically, some friends of mine who own the recently released Samsung Ultra "smart watch" can't keep up with the precision and reliability of my 6 years old Garmin, and at the end of the day, I can't but laugh at them when their devices run out of battery after roughly a day and a half or two days camping.
no support?? My 2019 Vivoactive (basically the lowest tier watch) still gets software updates. Also, the battery life is miles ahead of the competition (apart from maybe Suunto, idk). Having bad customer support experiences is a valid point, but one usually wouldn't need that if buying from vendors other than Garmin themselves (which I would recommend, as prices tend to be lower elsewhere).
Not comparable at all. Garmins are aimed at athletes and are not smart watches. Samsung, Apple Watch etc can’t even remotely come close to what my garmin epix can do for sport and hiking. All whilst having 2 week battery.
Garmin (at least US and others I've seen on 3 Garmin forums) has the best customer service of any tech company I've experienced and as reported by many. I have personally had an out of warranty device replaced for free. They have sent me a free band piece when I snagged and tore one.
Bought a garmin for a reason. The others don’t have battery life like a garmin and also not as accurate for motocross lap analytics using lit pro. Plus the new fenix 8 with orange band looks amazing.
What is great about this review, is the fact that you've picked the same colour for the watches , same bands and same watch faces. This makes the perfect comparison .
Glad it helped!! When I was shopping I had a hard time finding a really good size comparison video, so decided to make one myself, haha.

This is the comparison I was waiting for! Same size wrist as you. Just ordered the 51. Good work fella.
The comparision I was looking for. Great video! 👌

Humm...I'm almost certain Garmin has some 26MM white options. However, I purchased a bunch off Amazon. Yes, I like the white bands!

47MM is more comfortable and lighter weight for sure...you may love that size! I'm right on the fence but keeping the 51MM.
@ sounds good, I’ll see how it is when I get it this week. I like that the screen size is the same, the 51mm just has longer battery life.
What did you decide? I got the 47mm solar and I can’t even feel it on my wrist with a nylon band.
@@chriscarpunky I went with the 47mm. It’s very comfortable and I have been wearing it to bed. The strap that it comes with is very comfortable but I’ll be getting a nylon band too. Where did you get your strap from?
51mm suits you better in my opinion.
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I think I agree...but the 47 lightness makes it a hard choice.
Don’t see a lot of people mention the thicker band…it’s something I really like about the 51mm and wish garmin kept the ratio of band width
Agreed!!
does the 51mm band fit the 47
If not how did you get it ? It’s lovely
Thanks!
I have a strange experience. It seems that the 51mm feel lighter weight vs the 47mm, May be because the 26mm band of 51mm?
I have been beyond happy with the 43
Awesome! Yep, that's a great choice for the smallest size!
PERFECT comparison. Thank you!

I ended up getting the 51mm in silver. It’s just nicer for those times you need to dress it up.
Awesome!!

PS, I have another video showing off the black vs silver. (In the 47MM)
Hi. What did you choose 47 or 51 mm ?
Does that watch face come as a default?
Even though I would go for 47mm, but I have to say the 51m looks better, mainly because the thicker band and bigger bezel. the thinner band on 47mm make the watch itself looks too big...
Yeah, they really should have used a 24MM band and that would have been a PERFECT watch.
@@SammyGeek Definitely agreed!
Great video, I sent back the 51mm just because I’m constantly feeling it on my wrist. Also sleeping was annoying. I purchased the enduro 3 Way lighter with the 51mm size👍
51 suits you better 👍🏼
The screen size is exactly the same. The 4mm difference is from the thickness of the bezel
So what did you end up choosing to keep? I have the same wrist size and I’m debating on these two sizes.
24mm should be industry standard in my opinion. 26mm is ok with me tho. Garmins new 51mm is chunky, the enduro 3 even has a smaller fit then the new Fenix 8 51mm.
lug to lug ist the same?
I do believe 54mm for 47 version and 57mm for bigger one
@Uncle.tom93 spot on...51mm is slightly larger as you noted.
I bought the 51 after trying both on the wrist. My wrist is not large but the watch doesnt feel ginarmous at all

No, same size screen....that's why it's a tough decision.

Same size in the AMOLED models. In the solar models, the 47 has 1.3" and the 51 has 1.4".
@@jeffholthus2009 thank you
thank you. convinced me to stick with 51mm. I though Ill be better of with 47mm but due to band difference and the watch feel I better stay with 51mm
Same here. I'd stick with the 47MM all day if it had a 24mm band. 😢

Doesn’t the 51 mm have the same screen size so that there is more room for more solar to aid in longer battery life

The 51 looks like it stays in place better on your wrist. You’re fiddling with the 47 a lot to keep it in place.
Elle n'a pas été assez serré. cela n'a rien a voir avec la taille de boitier.
Great video, thanks!!! Another question: amoled or MIP. I prefer MIP😉
Both are sweet, but since the battery life is so good, I prefer the AMOLED always on display.
@ I'm afraid to burn the screen. This happened to me on a HUAWEI.
Excellent review thank you. I think it’s gonna be the 47’ for me 👍🏻… all I have to do now is find the money 😞
The 47mm doesn't look like it sits right on your wrist. I have a 190 mm wrist diameter, give or take, so I will definitely be getting the 51mm.
