There are very few videos on UA-cam of sailboats you can build yourself and take apart into pieces. So many people live in apartments and are looking for a boat they can keep on the balcony or in the closet. There are a few inflatable boats that cost a fortune and a few folding sailboat designs that look like they would not sail very well. I think yours is the best I have seen. I am very impressed with your workmanship and how well you made your video. I subscribed and cooked the bell. I look forward to your future videos.
thanks! no longer video I think... but I'll be happy to answer questions. The rigging is super simple, most of it is in the video, and the only missing part of the rudder is the bungee that hold it in and the brass rod that makes it pivot. more videos are on instagram: @matshape

Wow, looks really good. I’m just a bit concerned about foam in your mast to make it waterproof. Usually it’s better to leave it open at the bottom for the case of a capsize. The foam can soak water and interrupt water to run out of the mast. ;) But overall, hard to beliehe it’s your first boat build. 😅
Thanks ! That foam is supposed to be closed cells and not absorbed water, and i capped the ends with plastic plugs. each part floats on its own and i saw nothing leaking out after letting them float for a while. it should be fine :)
thanks, not really plans, but I have the 3d file in fusion 360 that is quite close to the final boat and the patterns for the flat pieces of the hull. But for the finition and mast/spars, I just winged it :)

It can be as hard as 2 years ship builing HND and 10 years of sailing and still only outputing plans on catia or blender :/ I'm going to marine engineering and and naval architecture school next and I've still never really built any of the designs I've created on plans. there are dozens. still yu managed to do everything... I'm both pissed and impressed ! How the fuck did you learn how to draw a hull, buils it and all the notions of water and hair pressure to do it !? along with how to flipping make sails, that's an entirely other jobs only done by some rare specialist... and it cost a flipping lot of money. only "mistakes" I could see is that the hull is kind of indecicive in an akward way little of balence between planning (good flat hull) and upwind (pointy front) but that back art of the hull is evasive... which ake it weird since it becomes a relatively flat yet upwind directed aft... also the houari sail rig design looks cool but when it comes to mas to power ration as well as ease of use the bermudian rig as more than made it' proof on modern designs. thoo it does look cool and does add some surface ad therefore power. thoo I doubt with how large it is that youll ever get to use all that power, maybe if you add a trapeze... also technically yu could have gotten some additional stability by making "side bench" and filling those with foam instead the bottom, would allow you to stand lower on the deck lowering the center of gravity and add nice benches as well. butit would prevent the self draining system from working so it's more of a choice than a mistake... still enrages me that I've studied so much for no added knowledge compared to a normal person on the internet just having fun :/. guess I know all the cristallographic properties of steel and carbon mixed together and all the polymer properties and curing process details and all those stuff in details but as you've proved it's pretty useless.
that's a thorough comment! :) to be fair, that's not a performance boat, no idea how long it'll last, but for sure it was fun to build and seems to be OK to learn how to sail so far. For the hull rough dimensions, they come from 2 different boats mentioned at the end of the video, use them as plan view in Fusion, and drew lines from there that felt right and the worked to stack the pieces. The sail was not that difficult: I picked that design to fit the surface I wanted (based on what similar dimension boats use) with kind of a short mast that doesn't need any flexibility. One of the goal was to fit inside my car, and I couldn't find used windsurf masts where I live, and I really didn't fill confident in building a 3 part carbon mast with the right strength and stiffness. From what I read balanced lug are not that bad compare to more modern rigs and are easy to rig and safe. The best part was that Sailrite does some kits of pre-cut sail that you just need to put together. so I selected one of the right size, that looked good and only check I did was that the center of effort of the sail was at the right position compared to the daggerboard. I had another logic for filling the bottom with foam: I'm used to building surfboard, and the thin skins only work because they're wrapped around foam. That allowed me here to have only 4mm plywood and a single layer of glass at the bottom which helps to limit the weight. I don't think it would hold up without the foam backing. And yes, self draining is definitely a good side effect cause lot of water do get in in choppy conditions. With all knowledge you have, only thing left to do is build something !
I didn't really make proper plans... but I can share the vector files I used to draw the parts (that you can see at 0:15) and the fusion360 archive if you want...

From memory, i think it's 150cm x 80cm X 70cm. Sadly I didn't do any plans, but I can share the 3d file and the file of the flatten parts.
