Two things: 1 I love this channel and for obvious reasons. 2 this will be the best job she will ever have with the best teachers in the tree service world.
You’re a good man, August. Hosanna is very fortunate to have a kind and expert mentor at this stage of her life. Keep the wise words coming. She’s absorbing them even when you think she’s not listening.
I'm coming up on 79 years old,and jokingly say if I had known that I was gonna live this long I would have taken way better care of my body when I was a young man,NO JOKING!
I just turned 78 and I did take care of my body....and I still climb, rig, cut chunk, etc. Takes a few days to recover from a job.....can't stop aging entirely.
👍 Congrats to Hosanna on graduating with honors ⭐️ and yes I think we all enjoyed the ride and what a beautiful smile she has! August you and Damien are both amazing mentors, and your words of wisdom are MADE FOR US. Your videos are not just entertaining and educational... they 💫 Inspire us to be better, to be kind to ourselves, to use our noodle ✅ and to pass our wisdom onto the next. Take care August, we appreciate you ♥️🌲
What I found that I never would have believed if someone told me this. Is how much I miss going to work everyday, and I miss the challenges that it gave me mentally, and yes physically too. It's as if my purpose in life was taken away from me, and I don't know if that's how anyone else feels about it. It's something I figured I would have done, until one day I just fell over on the jobsite, because I was a hard-core workaholic.
My husband dreams of winning the lottery and not working. I can't imagine my life without the "place to be" and my job is stressful and demanding on a good day.
Agreed. Having a useful, strong, and able body, and being able to use it for useful work is something I took for granted but am now grateful for every day.
I hear ya August! Wish I had not been a "He man" get er done by yerself younger guy...paying for it BIG TIME now, knees and back are completely gone @ 64! Love it WAR!!! 🤣😂🤣
I wish I would have listened to all the older guys. When I Was young and starting out. About proper lifting techniques. It sure catches up with you lol
I envy your ability to continue a profession that is so demanding on your body. The skills that you have achieved are incredible and definitely an achievement that took decades to acquire. It’s always interesting to hear you verbalize the hard knocks you have gone through to get where you are today. Every time I cut down a dying Ash and cut all those branches into burn barrel sized pieces I lust for your chipper (and ground crew ). Stay Well August 😊
Your work might not seem glamorous, but it seems very fulfilling to the right person. Your niece has much more to learn than physical tree work. You guys run a business. There are skills and mindsets to be learned in that.
That really made me laugh. I am a veteran, Marine Corps, and it’s one of the reasons I fell in love with high-speed production work. It’s exactly as she said.
7:18 Common sense, work within your gear's capacity and use your noodle, you can do a lot of cool things. Wow brother, you said a mouthful there. 😊 Those points have life application far beyond tree work. 14:29 For many people making a living based on manual labor, their young bodies (and minds), are one of the biggest fraudster they will come across in their lives. When you're young (and dumb), your body tells you you can go full tilt all the time. As a 15 month retiree of working life as a "factory rat", I wish I'd worked smarter along the way. One of the main drivers for my retirement was my body being "tired", as you say. All things considered, I'm in better health than many of my coworkers (around my same age). God Bless you August, for sharing your knowledge with younger generations. But even more than "knowledge", God Bless you for sharing your character with younger generations (as well as your UA-cam viewers).
Hi August, you are a great person, in addition to being a very good arborist you are a great philosopher, you are right and your words are as true as the air we breathe. Work is a blessing and when a man no longer works he dies physically and mentally. You are GREAT . FROM ITALY
Thank you as always for so freely sharing your work, skills, and hard earned wisdom. You've had an enormous positive influence on my life personally and professionally and I am eternally grateful to you. Stay safe, friend.
I did enjoy the ride. Like going over backwards with no warning. As soon as you checked on me I felt better. Lots of people are starting to envy you. Especially your Dad.
Another great video brother! Lol, you're blessed with Damian & his ridiculousness, you're blessed with your new team member (giving a super hard job a try, and having teachers whom are encouraging & patient to let her figure things out as it is needed). you're blessed for many more reasons of course. We are blessed with these thought provoking, meaningful, yet extremely entertaining videos. Thanks for all your time you invest in sharing with us.
August...My son is a climber who I work for occasionally (I'm 76). He always says the best ground person/rope person is a climber because they instinctively know what their climber needs. Get Hosanna in the tree when she feels she has learned all she can from Damien and she will be amazed at how much is truly involved in being a great ground person. (My son is a climber for two reasons...it's where the money is but more importantly, he hates hauling brush!)
As a older climber Arborist at 71 my advice to younger ageing climbers age 45 50ish is to try not to miss more than a week of climbing. Really gets harder to get back into it if you do. Yay August hope you climb as long as you enjoy it my brother! Thanks for sharing another important video! Ps hope your daughter hangs with you guys for the summer too. See will learn alot about life and maybe a new career..cheers
Great job by all three of you. I loved that bench. You could probably sell 100’s of them if you wanted to. I would definitely buy one. Can you imagine the shipping cost to Massachusetts 😳😳
Enjoyed the video. An exciting, adventuresome job....and you love it. I totally agree. I love climbing and rigging and cutting. I enjoy the planning aspect of tree work. You survey the tree and plan your assault. Then you get in the tree and reevaluate.....changing your plan. And maybe you change it several times. It' an exciting career.....for some (hard work scares some people). Glad to see you still have the enthusiasm for climbing.....and wish you many more years of enjoyment in the trees (hard work). Thanks for sharing your candid opinions.
Epic! We had a climber do his first crane removal today. I had an awesome opportunity to lead another man into some good ol’ tree war. The details make all the difference. Thank you for your knowledge!
In years past I have doubted or dismissed the gravity of the back pain people told me about. Later I learned just how easily that you can hurt your back and how extremely disabling back pain is. I’m determined to press on. Much like folks commenting here. Best to all of you. See you in the trees. 👋🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
Now that I started trying to film jobs I am appreciating your filming and editing skills more and more. If I am being honest, there are worse things that a chipdrop recipient could receive. I will never forget the lady who let her kids play king of the chip pile, let's just say there had been a big emergency earlier that day leading to a co-worker losing a couple shirt sleeves🤣
For anyone who thinks that using a carabiner in a lowering situation is bad..... just think this through this thought with me.... that carabiner is probably rated for around 2400kg of force (24kn) and August is lowering the branches by hand. If he accidentally attaches a branch that weighs anywere near 2400kg, the bit thats more likely to break is August as he's dragged through the tree by a branch that is over 20 times his weight! If the lowering rope had been secured before hand, the bit thats most likely to break first is the sling due to the was it's been attached to the tree. If you want to check out if I'm correct, check out @HowNot2 where Ryan has a channel that aims to show people what climbing kit actually breaks and when. He has hundreds of break tests on carabiners and slings alone and the channel is a font of knowledge on all things climing in pretty much any sport and profession 😊
Yer im 50 still goin 4 days a week. But have had wrist back all kinds of issues. Cant sit down to long after big day cos hard get up. But i still like it n get 5 more years be happy. Cheers to all. Older n young guys n girls doin treework.
I am hesitant to write this because I don’t like to be negative. I don’t like the speeded up videos of your cutting. Granted some videos need to be speeded up because they are so monotonous but every limb and every climb to a new branch is a work of art to be enjoyed. So what if the video is an hour long its what I tune in to see, the master arborist at work. For those folks in a hurry they can watch and pause and watch some more later. I like to watch just how you cut each limb and I’m always amazed at the way you move through the tree from limb to limb, it’s quite an art and you have mastered it so its a joy to watch. Please make at least one version for those of us who really like to watch you and Dameon work. Thank you
I appreciate the comment, but I do put many tasks, start to finish, in my videos. Showing everything is unnecessary except to show enough that the observant audience will see the sequence of the tasks.
I used to say the same; "I'll die at work" but got worn out. Now I just miss it . . every day. I think you have to have worked an office job all your life to enjoy retirement because . . what's to miss???
20 years USAF working jets on the flightline and in shop. Tends to tear up a body. Then 24 years in a civilian job working on equipment in all types of environments. And a bunch of other "stuff" that wears out a body. Yeah, at 74 I'm feeling it. But I'm no couch potato either.
Hard men built this country I don’t know if I’m a hard man but the body sure feels like I something’s did things the hard way I feel ya brother but it is cool to see a young lady gettin it done 🤣
He is not joking about making sure that gas cap is on right, had a ground guy send me one that wasnt on all the way a few weeks ago. Soaked my leg under my gaf pad and gave me second degree burns, no fun at all.
@@AugustHunicke So it's becomming a family business, sort of 😃 Think it's great that they actually want to do something. Here most kids this age have... let's say... a different attitude.
Work is a blessing. Great comment
Hosanna showing some swagger. It's a joy to see young people empowered through hard work and respect. You just want them to do well.
"War" 😂 love it.
Two things: 1 I love this channel and for obvious reasons. 2 this will be the best job she will ever have with the best teachers in the tree service world.
War?! You're going places kiddo! There's value in all work, even if it's a temporary gig.
You’re a good man, August. Hosanna is very fortunate to have a kind and expert mentor at this stage of her life. Keep the wise words coming. She’s absorbing them even when you think she’s not listening.
👍 Beautifully said
Nice to have competent people on the ground.
I'm coming up on 79 years old,and jokingly say if I had known that I was gonna live this long I would have taken way better care of my body when I was a young man,NO JOKING!
Same song for me
That’s tragically funny 😆
I just turned 78 and I did take care of my body....and I still climb, rig, cut chunk, etc. Takes a few days to recover from a job.....can't stop aging entirely.

What a definition of a day.
Nice swings.

I wouldn't expect anything less from August. Family always comes first. True friends as well.
I'm 73 and can no longer work due to bad knees and back but i believe work got me through some tuff times in my life.Thank you for the videos August.
War..... I wouldn't have guessed that one 😅 Sorry she didn't keep the bench, I liked it !!
“ . . . get to . . .” Words of wisdom. Pearls of great price. ❤️
One of my favorite videos! Love your wisdom! “ Get to! “ So simple, so profound! Thank you! 🙂

Yes, that’s it.

Great job August.

Great video and good job. Believe she had a good time. On another note Damien don't be afraid of a little dog poop and a dead rat 😂😂😂😂
Beautiful piece, August. Thank you.
thanks as always for the video , how is your flying going ? and how's Hez and his flying going ,
A detailed video on the fuel cap installation would be appreciated, haha. We have all been there.

August you get to help her go over the horizon. You & your wife are living a legacy that’s being picked up on. Like you said your made for this.
Yeah, I'm 65 and I don't get to do the things I love to do...
Love that perspective. Get to.
Nice try on the bench👍🏼👍🏼😃
Like she said, "it's War", and in war you often incur injuries😋
When does she get to back in the trailer? Nice driving.

Get TO...... nice!

Get to … war!

I would have loved that bench! I wish I would have taken better care of my back. Painful!!
I never used rigging blocks, always using carabiners, not that i want, its my conditions 💰. Sometimes i use 2 😂, never broke.
👍
