  • El Mirador is a preclassic Mayan city deep in the Northern part of Guatemala. The hikes usually start from Flores (the city which is usually a connection to Tikal - another Mayan city but in a more researched state and very accessible). From Flores people are taken to Carmelita, there we could leave our bags with the mules and start trekking. Altogether it takes 5 days and the leghth of the trek is over 80 km.

It was a great feeling to watch you sharing your initial excitement about El Mirador but stern awareness at the end about how, if we don't learn from history, will eventually make the same mistakes and pay the price. Wonderful presentation, good vibes! 👍 ✌️ 🇬🇹

What a wonderful experience backpacking through the jungle I would've had the time of my life checking out every single life form that I could put my hands on or watching in it from a distance. I hope you had mosquito repellent with you cause they'll eat you alive. Loved your message about taking care of our land, a lot of people don't realize how precious some of us have it with land as rich as ours, in most of our country you drop a seed on the floor and a plant will grow from there in no time at all.

My son would like to do this trip in October. How would I go about arranging it? Do you have any contact information that I can use to set it up?

Greetings from Finland! How was the path, is it mostly flat and easy to walk? What time of the year you did this trek?

Nice video and interesting info but like you said: what had happened to the habitants? That’s is the mystery as not many cadavers/ skulls/ remains were found as in other civilizations also their properties and belongings were left behind so they did not fleet away to scape as other civilizations did to migrate… The Maya’s are still a mystery… ❤

So was this a backpacking trip for you? Was everything taken care of for you? How much did you need to prepare? I'm wanting to do a backpacking trip but do I need a permit? Can I just get on the trail? Is it 5 days one way, or 5 days round trip with 1 day of exploration? Is there ample water along the way for filtering?

5 days round trip. aprox 100km total. 7 days if you want to visit another city on the way back. you MUST go in with guides, the people of carmelita take care of everything, water, food, tents, and mules to carry all the stuff. they have water collectors and filters along the way for drinking water, and have an office in flores to book the trip from there.

Or the theory that the earth goes through major changes. Some areas that were once tropical are now arctic in nature. Remember the cycles. This is the reason for a 26k year calendar of the Mayans.

Hola, this is really well done, and you've got a great message to share.
But I honestly don't know how your partner survived the trip with just flip flops, he would have had a lot more fun with better gear on those footsies & toesies. BRAVO to you both!!
ps...I'm surprised to be the first person to comment on your video. Hope more people watch it. 👌🏽🤙🏼✌🏽👍🏽🍻

MMM Giza is more impressive and interesting. the fact that it is next to a large city gives credence to its value and special qualities. Giza has captured and held the mystery of the beginnings of man. The pyramids you visited were abandoned in the jungle. I have been to a couple pyramids in Belize and Mexico. They are cool and the jungle is pretty, but Egypt is a different thing.
