Hey Nathaniel, I’ve watched some videos by two of the people who took your course and I’m so happy that I can say that it is so clear by their results that your course is very worth the price and that you are giving so much value in it. Much respect my dude.
@Dalton Beauregard Nope, but like I said I don’t need to have bought it to have an idea of how much value there is in it because I can see that others have improved so much after finishing it.
Mind linking who those two people are?
Bought it and made a video with the things I've learned from it, and I can truly say that I see improvements in my video, especially from the storytelling side of things
I watched a few of videos and he really has improved so much and his videos are really worth watching!!
I'm so glad to hear that!! Cheers.
Bought the course myself and finished it, the value is definitely worth the price tag!
To anyone who sees this comment, please check out Faisal’s latest video! It really hit me and what he’s doing is incredible! It’s so clear how much he has improved recently.
@@artistryunicorn928 thank you so much!!
I learned a lot in the course. In case it helps others make a decision, below were my high-level impressions:
- I like how the storytelling levels build on top of each other and give a clear roadmap of where to start and how to proceed.
- I found it really helpful that they showed their screen and a lot of examples. Only after the examples did I realize I hadn't understood them when said in abstract.
-- For example, the concept of "forward motion" in particular and how jumping too far between scenes stops it was really helpful. But I didn't get it until Johnny showed the Netherlands scene of getting onto a train.
-- Now I see how much forward motion helps Matt D'Avella's videos. He literally brings you along a lot more with him than many other UA-camrs.
- The framework around types of shots to be thinking about, and supplements like interviews was really helpful. Additionally how shots can form modular scenes that can be moved around anywhere in the timeline was amazing.
- The course made me also internalize the importance of music. Especially the switching of energy between thinky, feely and fun.
-- I hadn't realized why Matt D'Avella's video feel so well paced. His baseline is a lot more toward fun than Johnny's but I can see the same rhythm to his videos.
- I hadn't thought about sound design/effects at all until I heard it in this course. It makes so much sense that if not captured well on-the-ground, it can be added in post.
- The sequence of backbone -> music -> b-roll -> pacing in how to approach editing was super helpful.
- I also really like the idea of grouping the best parts from raw film by theme to greatly speed up editing.
Thank-you so much for this summary. Do you think this course would be useful for those NOT doing travel films?
@@KathySierraVideo Yes, because I am also not doing travel films. The fundamentals they teach apply to any visual story. The parts you could discard are perhaps the tips around dealing with unpredictability because for non-travel films, you can control more of your filming/surprises.
@@richaprasad6737 thank-you!!
@@KathySierraVideo Happy to help. Adding that maybe the mapping can feel non-obvious from travel to non-travel, so a good creator whose videos you can try to apply the lessons is Matt D'Avella. He doesn't do travel videos and yet many of the lessons apply to his videos. That may be a way to make the mappings obvious.
@@richaprasad6737 this is so helpful 🙏
I’ve taking the class, I highly recommend. 💙 📖📚
Hey Nathaniel
Just finished the course after I received the scholarship from you and the team!
Thank you so much for selecting me. I've got to learn so much and improve the movies I already am making.
I can now critique movies so well that every movie I watch is now a leaning experience rather than just entertainment.
I've got to rewatch the course a couple of times to really absorb it all because there's just so much information, which is awesome as there's something for me even when I grow up as a filmmaker
By the way, fujifilm is my favorite as well
Man, that price is not even high! In my opinion is just fair, it's accessible, not for everyone of course but you give A LOT for free so it's not like people can't learn from your experience. Thank you for always making good content and providing value in general! I like seeing different sides and approaches to things through both your channels.
Yes. The thing that got me hooked in binge-watching you was how you yell your stories visually. I wish to achieve that into my own work!
Needed this right now! Great structure and delivery guys 🙏🏻👍🏻
I love it! Sounds so great and interesting. Definitely thinking of buying this course. I see a lot of work going in there and love the idea behind it. So Thank you so much Nathan fort this amazing content and all the thinking you sparked in myself.
I think that your course is fairly priced and it will establish a worth to justify the next course that you bring out which honestly should be more. This sales pitch was incredibly well done and just watching your videos is proof enough that you know what you’re doing. I wish you so much success and happiness. I feel lucky to have stumbled on you’re channel when I did ❤️ from Canada
this was a great course from 2 of my favorite creators 🙂definitely recommend!
I just started my youtube channel and I am really looking to be at a level similar to yours. I know i have a long way to go, but videos like this make it just a little bit easier. Thank you Nathaniel!
Ohhhh man. I am so excited to see this
I don’t know if I would ever use this information, but it’s super fascinating to understand it better…. Idk, maybe my curiosity will overtake me one day….. 🤔
Thanks for this video im gonna try it out
I bought your language learning course and loved the unique approach you took in it with Johnny Harris. I have a hobbyist interest in this subject and I’ll be looking to buy this course too :)
Much love Nathaniel :)
so close to 100k!!
It's a great course!
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 love it
This is beautiful. I really appreciate that you are so invested in your craft and that you want to pass down the knowledge you have now down to aspiring storytellers, as well as still growing yourself. I wish you success in this course and I hope that all who take it can truly make use of it in whatever way is meaningful to them.
Hi Nathan!!❤️
This is EXACTLY what I need like I don’t understand you timing
That price is high in my book. If I were in college (or right after high school) looking to make this my career, I wouldn't pay for it. But I didn't have money back then. I only made $500/mo in college and was saving for a car, and I don't come from a family with a lot of money.
I would instead just look for free tips or cheap/free/library books on specific topics.
Hi Nathaniel!
Never been this early ♡

Hey Nathaniel, which lens exactly did you used in this video? The background blur is amazing and i need a good lens for a small room.
when i get your gear description right, it must be this one? Fujifilm XF-16mm f1.4 Lens
I have a question about balance. Maybe it’s experiencing a trip vs working.
When I go on a trip, I want to experience it all and fully live it. But then I also want to document it all and create a journal, a video etc.
The trouble then becomes, I start enjoying it all a little less since I’m so focused on documenting it almost becomes work and at the end of it all instead of enjoying my time fully I’ve enjoyed it through a camera. I’m not sure if this makes sense but I would genuinely like to hear how people approach this and how they maintain a balance.
Where is the scholarship application link?
How can i apply for a scholarship? I really wahnt tk take the course but ive got financial blockages
Would you say it would be a good purchase for someone who wants to learn visual storytelling but not for travel videos? (Rather, mostly indoors/laptop collaboration challenges)
What’s the song at 4:30 ?
I wish there was something for non travel
What’s the name of the song 4:28
Nathaniel: as a new screenwriter, Ive been told to extend my “visual storytelling”, but your suggestions sound more to a producer,I don’t understand...does a 😅 get from me the shots I want to make? Where do those descriptions come in in a script?, before or after the action?..
video starts at 4:40
I need this but for audio.
I've used cameras my whole life and know visual storytelling but I feel like an idiot when it comes to audio ...
Hope people taking the course won't just copy-paste both of your styles, but have some unique personal touches also.
Just a heads up: I only found this video because I saw your IG post. I didn't show up anywhere on my YT home page or even my subscription page.
Sometimes it's just like that! Not a whole lot I can do about it...
@@nobackupplan yeah, realized after I said it that it probably wasn't actually helpful because it's not like you can change anything. I was just like, "Oh no! Why is the algorithm doing this?!" It was a really helpful/great video. Thanks!
Can anyone tell me how he makes such beautiful titles and transitions?
I believe his brother is an animator for his videos.
Too bad it's not affordable for people outside the Dollar/Euro world :(
