Additional tips for improving WIFI speed: 1. For cable modems specifically, pull the wire out for 30 seconds - some "provided" cable modems don't actually reboot when you hit the "power" switch they just block data. 2. For older routers consider replacing the factory firmware with something like OpenWRT. 3. Don't rely on WIFI bridging instead, run a network cable, between your main router and any additional routers in your setup - note: you should also enable spanning tree protocol on all routers before doing this. 4. If you have multiple WIFI "routers" check which ports are used you should only use the "WAN" port on your main router (the one connected to the cable modem) all the routers should be connected together via the LAN ports - you will need to ensure only your main router is running DHCP

Not sure what the situation is like where you are, but my internet provider will cap the line speed if they detect the router being switched off at regular intervals. They interpret it has the router losing connectivity for one reason or another, so cap it at a lower speed to see if it makes the connection stable, not knowing that it is being manually restarted.
Another reboot option is what I do. I have it on a power strip. Flip the rocker switch at it likes the modem, router, and network storage drive all at once. The one thing that wasn't mentioned is when you reset your modem or router regularly it helps to protect you from hackers. When you do this the equipment sets a new IP address so it no good for any hacker that has found your system. Its like moving without leaving a forwarding address.
Most likely because it's not correct. The there are 2 options for the local IP address. (The local address is a Public IP address) Depending on your provider you will either have a fixed IP address or a DHCP address. If it is fixed you will always have the same Public IP address. If it is a DHCP address the address is allocated from a pool provided by your service provider. You are given an IP address on a timed lease. Normally about 1 day. But can be in few minutes when service providers are doing maintenance on their equipment. You will get a lease extension as long as you request that address before the lease expires. When you ask for a new IP address after the device is powered on if your lease is still active you will get your previous IP address. In most cases even if the lease has expired when you request a new DHCP IP address you will get your old one as long as it has not in the intermediate period been given to someone else. This is the majority of cases, but dependant on the Service Providers equipment and FW versions of the DHCP service.
resting your router/modem does nothing except make more work for you if there things you need to set up (like DNS addresses and such) ... as Brian explained, there are internal IP addresses and external IP addresses .... the rest of the world only cares about your external IP address, in almost every scenario there is nothing you can do to reset this IP address, only your provider can manipulate this address. sometimes you can trick the system into granting you a new address by leaving your modem unplugged overnight or longer but that was back in the day with old security protocols and only on certain types of systems ... as new tech gets put in and companies want to implement new security standards and big brother still wants to keep tabs on you and what your doing, i guarantee that you will not be able to manipulate your own external IP ... if you could then every hacker and terrorist would be using it to hide themselves ...

I love some of your suggestions. I myself have tried the daily reboot option. However, my first attempt was with a smart lock. I found that when I used this method the smart lock failed because the internet went down when (of course) it switched the router/wifi combo off. When this happened the smart switch didn't come back online to switch the router/wifi back online. So I would suggest only use the mechanical timers in this scenario.
hmmm interesting as smart plug maintain their wifi info on the device itself and keeps looking for the router. If it didn't then it means you have to re-setup the plug every single time you have a power failure or you need to move it from one plug to another....
@@LironSegev Right, but it turned off the router/wifi and then after 30 seconds later my hub (habitat) tried to tell the smart switch to turn it back on, but the router was off. So it couldn't communicate with the switch in order to turn the router/wifi back on. ;)

Agree with all except for the last one. Every single router I've ever had I had to roll back firmware after immense trouble shooting as some point. I finally just stopped updating any router as long as it's working well.
@@jamesvw769 Maybe I'm the most unlucky person in the world, but I'm not kidding when I say every single router I've ever had was made to work like a dial-up modem because of firmware updates. My iPad, Android phone and PC would take forever to boot. So I pressed the power button on both my Netgear router and modem, turned off all three devices, and rebooted them. Normal speed before the 30 second reboot was 2-3 minutes. After reboot of the modem and router, it's 30-45 seconds. Excellent tips, Mr. Segev. See you later today for the live training. I'll have my coffee ready to go.
Liron Segev Also, my router's firmware just updated. First time since Oct 2019. All I have to do is get a USB cooling fan for the router and it won't overheat. I'm thinking of getting a cooling fan for my laptop too. It tends to heat up during gaming, but it doesn't shut off.
i haven't upgraded my (personal) router firmware in a couple of years. still works great. I seldom reboot, in fact very rarely. no problems with it. I say if it ain't broke don''t fix it. especially updating the firmware, that is very risky.
It's very risky? Or do you mean there is a very slight chance something could go wrong anywhere on the range from minimal issue to brick the system? So "very risky" is not accurate but more like very small chance there is an issue at all, maybe there is an issue and extremely rare could be bricked system.
Suddenlink/ISP controls everything and Arris , the modem hardware manufacturer, does help either. Both keeping blaming each other for the speed foibles... Frustrating. ...but your videos are priceless, Liron !
Be very careful using a smart plug to be a timer for your Internet connection! No Internet means no cloud, could mean no smart plug, and so could result that it won't switch on your Internet again. Some smart plugs can continue with their schedule when offline, some don't. For example, how does an offline smart plug know when sunset is today?
most good plugs store the schedule on the actual device itself and don't rely on an internet connection just to power on and off. It saves the network ID too so as soon as the router is back it will reconnect to it. If it didn't do these things, every single time you pull it out of the wall socket or have a power failure you would need to reset it all up. You don't.
You are right, I had mine on a smart outlet. I have wi fi in a remote location to operate cameras and lights. I'm typically at that location once a week. It would sometimes go offline when I was away. So I set up the smart plug to turn it off at midnight for 10 minutes everyday. First time it went off it wouldn't come back on because it had no wi-fi. It was off until I returned to the location and manually turned the outlet back on. Lesson learned. I had some old mechanical timers, and put one of those on it, problem solved. Oh, and to respond to Liron, the wi fi outlet does keep the info, I don't have to reset it every time the power is off, it just won't respond to the schedule without wi fi.
Surely rebooting your rooter several times a week would be seen as a line fault from the dlm and potentially slow your rate to try and make it more stable.
In my home/office I have wired to router, ethernet over mains to router and 2.4/5g to router handling a TALKTALK fixed broadband over copper connection speed of 49mbps down/14mbps up. Data is handled on all systems with speed and consistency whilst full 4G video plays on two machines with ease over all connections. IMPORTANTLY, all business data is wired for security and cannot be externally accessed and a high quality VPN is used by all computer/phone access.
I don't know if you've covered this but in America in 2021 a new law was made where ISPs cannot charge a monthly rental fee (usually $10 a month) for a modem/router you purchase. I'm having that problem right now with my ISP. Thanks

I wasn't paying attention so i thought he said "Your router and your mother" lol
I love that. I think I'll use that as my new rude thing to say to people. 😁😜😂
Haven't done the 30 second yet will be doing that, my place is cool wifi is fine. I also check for update once a week I hope that's good enough
nice!
I’m subscribed and love your videos!!
Welcome and thank you for the message and hanging out here 👍
My iPad, Android phone and PC would take forever to boot. I'll have my coffee ready to go.
awesomeness - you know I will have mine☕
Liron Segev Also, my router's firmware just updated. First time since Oct 2019. All I have to do is get a USB cooling fan for the router and it won't overheat. I'm thinking of getting a cooling fan for my laptop too. It tends to heat up during gaming, but it doesn't shut off.
Yes!!! Keep it cool 😎
Wonderfull tips, love this video!
You are simply a genius! Thank you again...
Common things that a human need to learn but they don't.....you are so awesome man thanks for the information ❤️😌
Thanks a lot, i never knew modem and router doesnt update automaticly
I unplug the wifi at night before I go to bed and plug it back in the next morning. Helps to reduce the electric bill as well.
i haven't upgraded my (personal) router firmware in a couple of years. still works great.
So "very risky" is not accurate but more like very small chance there is an issue at all, maybe there is an issue and extremely rare could be bricked system.
cool video and i stayed right until the end!
You are epic! Appreciate you being here!
Thanks for the helpful tips, cool channel BTW. Greetings from Vienna
Thanks for watching and being here!
Another very helpful, well-explained video. Thanks, man!
Thanks for the message and hanging out here 👍
Subbed after watching this video big help boosting my internet speeds afte switching isp. Massive thanks
Some really helpful tips, thanks Liron!
Thanks dude! This actually helps👍
Just found you - think Im in love - great info thanks!
😂 Appreciate you being here 🔥
Suddenlink/ISP controls everything and Arris , the modem hardware manufacturer, does help either. Both keeping blaming each other for the speed foibles... Frustrating. ...but your videos are priceless, Liron !
wow - that's really irritating....(and kinda odd that they still do that!!!)
Great information Liron! Many thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Your inbound speed is determined by the linecard driving your dsl circuit and the switch port at the phone co switch.
Great information. Thankyou!
As all my things are by my tv and I have a 20" box fan blowing that way and that keeps everything cool .
Nice!
Surely rebooting your rooter several times a week would be seen as a line fault from the dlm and potentially slow your rate to try and make it more stable.
Brilliant. Thanks for the tips.
Glad it was helpful!
All the best for the vidiq q and a today sir
Nice video and info!! Perfect go to guy!
Appreciate you being here!
I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thanks for making them.
audio leveling please. effects were really loud.
Thanks so much for the tips! awesome too know , lol well thats why i"M here! Enjoy your channel!!
Appreciate you being here! More to come
Useful information! Thank you!
Great information - I also have a WiFi extender and I occasionally reboot them too - should I do the reboot at the same time as the primary routers?
I don't know if you've covered this but in America in 2021 a new law was made where ISPs cannot charge a monthly rental fee (usually $10 a month) for a modem/router you purchase. I'm having that problem right now with my ISP. Thanks
Great tips.
