Glad you tested. I just rescued a Hoover Portable from salvage, and folks say it has the same motor as Dialamatics. My Killawatt reads 100W more though. Hopefully it has similar CFM.
Nice, good performance for a vacuum that was way ahead of its time, but I now understand why Hoover decided to revert back to that old direct air style when they debuted the Concept One.
Yeah going from the convertible to the DAM was a huge loss for nozzle flow. I'm curious to see how much the concepts have some collects say those were Hoover's best.
@@Blackheartvacs My outcome prediction is it'll probably be in the Elite ballpark when it comes to airflow, but it'll have great agitation from that Quadraflex.
I have had two of these in the past. An orange one, which was very beat up and the motor bearings were just done. I would have tried to replace them, but with how badly beaten that machine was, it was not worth it. I had all of the attachments and the hose and everything for it. Then about a year later, I finally threw out the hose as i thought I would never use it again, about a week later I got my green one, that besides some discoloration of the plastic on the back, is in great shape. And the motor runs great as well. Sadly, I do not have a hose for it, although I don't feel I would use that so much because of the kind of poor suction you get. They are okay carpet cleaners, and I do use it sometimes, but I find it much harder to push and the performance is just not as good as my hoover convertible. Also, some of the earlier models use a brushroll that actually pushes the dirt AWAY from the hose, which caused a lot of dirt to be spat out of the end instead of picked up (My orange one was like that, gladly the one I have now has the revised roller that does not do this). I actually looked up this video, because I have never really thought of it until now, but the bags mount upside down and I just thought "this can't be right" so decided to look it up... turns out it is right. That does not make sense, especially since that bag is designed specifically for these machines, not just a leftover bag type from another machine that they decided to use.
well a hose from like a portapower fits on these but yeah like you said it's not very good with a hose., just not enough power for one really. They're an interesting machine being the first line of bypass style uprights but man they really had some issues to work out with them.
@@Blackheartvacs yep. They are okay machines over all though. I used to work at a used car lot my friend owned, and I would come by about once a week and vacuum, I normally used a Kirby or one if my old direct air upright machines, which worked really well. but the dial a matic machine really struggled in the office, because for some reason there was always little pieces of shredded up paper in the floor, and the sort of weak suction combined with the relatively small hose caused it to clog quite often. Something that did not happen too bad with the direct air machines.
@@joshuaryanferguson3702 Hmm I've had....3 or 4 variants of the Dial A matic I've only seen one with a broken or missing rear wheel. It may not occur as much as you think.
Fabulous to see this golden oldie tested. Seems like very reasonable performance as well.

for some reason I was picturing a portapower but a portable that's the "suitcase" like model isn't it?
@@Blackheartvacs yup, box on wheels, hehe
The hoover "portable" has an additional fan blade. The Dialamatic only has 2...
@@1953childstar ok good. thx for that detail.

That's one nice cat.
Lol yeah, he's generally never far from me unless the vacuum is running
@@Blackheartvacs Have a vintage Hoover power drive dial a matic. Wouldn't mind gettiing another agitator roller, can't find one.
@@veganwally what's up with it? the bristles and bearings are replaceable
@@Blackheartvacs My style I don't think the bristles are replaceable, my bristles go the entire length of the roller. My model is 1178.

Yes these are good vacuum cleaners
Put new brushes in it
floor or carbon?

Floor brushes
not going to lie but I never liked a vacuum that had that style
