I was on South Uist in August 2007, standing beside Flora McDonald's house. I saw my first pair of White Tailed Eagles. One stayed aloft on lookout, just a speck. The other was floating 4 feet above the deck using the updraft off the warm earth, searching for food, I guess.
The one aloft called to its mate and the eagle in front of me (about 15 ft) tilted its outer feathers and climbed at a healthy rate up to its mate.
South Uist is a Long Way from Mull which is where I thought they had come from.
I do not disturb rare birds so I went to Lauvsness in Norway in 2008, 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle and spent 5 days with Ole Martin Dahl, the bird man of the North.
I brought back 78 films of White Tailed Eagles fishing etc.
You say they are territorial and do not stray far but Mull to South Uist is a considerable distance.

Apparently the place name 'Yarnscombe' in North Devon translates as 'Valley of the Eagles'.

I saw a large hawk ? this morning 9/10/2023 in my garden being chased by magpies , it had a white tip to it's tail .
this was on the Hoo Peninsula ,in Kent is it possible that this was a White tailed eagle

The fact that they like coot so much might be explained by the fact that its taste was so fishy that the vatican allowed the bird to be eaten on fridays.
