LOVE this! We don't live in California and generally when we visit the LA area, we try to plan one day around our Disney park visit to spend elsewhere. It is always helpful to see recommendations on places to eat, visit, etc that aren't theme parks. So thank you! This is super helpful!

It just clicked...I discovered this channel through the Star Wars Galaxy Edge lightsaber build video and began watching more and more the past couple days. I always had this feeling like you, Peter, looked super familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. You dropped the name 'Dan Trachtenberg' when saying your friend brought you to this location and I was like...THE Dan T..from Totally Rad Show, one of my all time favorite Pod/Vodcasts. Then it clicked that you were ON there a few times for Slashfilm...then it all made sense. Funny how memory works.

Sawdust on the floor on the floor of a place lends the name "spit and Sawdust" - least in the UK. Correct its to collect "spillage" - but not always the fluids you'd like to be made aware of. Yates bar in the shambles of Manchester a long time ago did this - it also had a no ladies rule in the 1950s! Im sure this is for "olde worlde" feel but used to mean a lot different in the day.
Im guessing the old saloons in the west did it for the same reason as working class drinking places did in the UK in the 1800s.
FWIW i managed to have a French Dip sandwich in a diner in the 1980s and it was an all time favorite = theres a couple of Anthony Bourdain and men vs food programmes the creation of them - worth a check out if you want the history.
Again loving the videos - we need to get you in the UK trying some Pie and Mash in London and proper Black Pudding in Bury Market LOL
Oh and Circuses used trains to travel the US - hence the link.

The story of that sandwich reminds me of the story of the Primanti Bros. sandwiches. The steelworkers in Pittsburgh and other people would come in on their lunch break, but were rushed. So, they asked the employees to put everything together. Sandwich, fries and slaw. And now, all of their sandwiches come with fries and slaw on them. You can request either or both removed, but you will get strange looks for that request.

K, so I’m working right now at my comp, and thought I’d do a quick search lol... according to the Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog in NYC... apparently, saw dust was traditionally used in the New York Irish waterfront bars and the sawdust soaked up whatever got spilled (just like you thought, Kitra :). It also made it easier to slide a keg, beer box, or unconscious customer across the floor (their words, not mine, lol). Great vid you guys... keep’em comin’!
