“Kato Kaelin was a minor witness for the prosecution in the 1995 O. J. Simpson murder case. The only problem with Norm on this is, he’s such a great poker player and getting reads off people, he was trying to do that to Regis the whole time, thinking Regis knew the answer but he didn’t know
Norm had a read on Regis every time he’d say an answer and Regis would automatically ask “final answer?” he was always right on those… but Regis not knowing the answer and being scared Norm would get it wrong is why Norm just took the $500,000

Yeah, I feel a bit sorry for Regis. His concern was spot on: essentially, please don't gamble 500k on a 1 in 4 chance. You'll feel horrible if it's wrong. I remember watching this when it first aired back in 2000 and getting so mad when Regis talked Norm out of answering the million-dollar question. But he said years later that he felt Regis was trying to protect him. Norm had a reputation as a compulsive gambler, and had divulged during a commercial break that he had wagered 50k on the Notre Dame football game happening that day. Couple that with his really odd, esoteric process of coming up with answers, and I can understand why Regis was afraid of Norm taking a wild guess with that much of a charity's money on the line.

@@travisross6162 Yes, gambling. Google "Norm Macdonald gambling problem" - there are several videos online where he talks about it, plus a bio from Grunge. It was a serious addiction but he did overcome it.

He did compete against other players and pretended to not know the answers, so he was left sitting there until he remained the only player.
And then it turns out he know more answers than anybody else, and he would have won if Regis didn't talk him out of the answer he gave

I've always been convinced that Regis was getting Norm back for Norm pulling information out of him. He even said that the producers told him to stop asking Regis questions, and I think Regis wanted revenge for getting suckered.

Norm was the last to answer the fastest finger question.
He played the audience perfectly because after that they were expecting nothing from him

Norm probably wasn't allowed to make a joke about it but Kato was at OJs house at a particular time Norm liked to frequently talk about.
