    "UA-cam poop" is a good example of experimental techniques being alive and well today. Despite being seen as immature in nature, many visual/editing memes also seem to draw from this.
    Sidenote: while working fro a cable company I had several customers asking about how the scientific community was reacting to the megaladon and mermaid sightings from two popular mockuentaries that were running at the time, not knowing they were works of fiction.

    I'm really happy that this series at least touched on experimental film. I'm also terribly disappointed that it never touched on animated film, another aspect of filmmaking that could have an entire series devoted only to it.

    • @fromthebackseat4865
      @fromthebackseat4865 5 років тому

      Maggie Orr it also didn’t mention one of, if not the, greatest experimental documentaries of all time. Man with a Movie Camera. It mentions Triumph of the Will, which is a terrible film not just due to subject matter, but not MwaMC. Terribly disappointed

    • @deatheater3716
      @deatheater3716 5 років тому

      @@fromthebackseat4865 he actually did mention man with a movie camera. Actually spent a minute or two talking about it. Just not in this episode and I don't remember which episode it was in. But he definitely mentioned it

    • @fromthebackseat4865
      @fromthebackseat4865 5 років тому

      deatheater3716 oh and I’ll have to try and find if. I absolutely love MWaMC. I hate how a lot of film studies courses elevate the garbage that is Triumph of the Will as if it’s some technical masterpiece when it’s not that at all, it’s propaganda that holds very little if any cinematic merit. But these people are propping it up and inflating it’s worth, proving how effective it is as propaganda I guess.

    For example District 9 has a mockumentary stile for almost the first half of the movie.
    Also Stargate Universe and Battlestar Galactica (the new one) have a little of documentary-style shots. For example the CGI of the ships in space have camera wiggles and bad focusing after zoom-in to simulate a camerta operator taking live shots of action.

    Since we are talking about experimentation on film and the ambiguity of truth on some documentaries, there is a film called F for Fake, made by Orson Welles --the genius behind Citizen Kane --, who got himself amidst this medium to make the mentioned essay film. The main focus of the film is the history of an art forger who lives in Ibiza, then shifting to the forger's biographer who also became a forger when he wrote the fictional biography of Howard Hughes. While Orson tell these stories, he himself tells the forgeries behind his body of art, telling how he pretended to be a famous actor in his youth to convincing the USA that martians were invading earth --and it is especially fascinating if taking into account the endless tricks he performed to make Citizen Kane one of the most bold films ever made. I highly recommend it.

    Okay, when the series first started I was a little taken back by Craig, only because like his voice is so animated and his mannerisms are so... not? Also he like never blinks like ever! That's not the point though.Over the series I saw how hysterical Craig is, like he's really funny, so this episode is a lil bittersweet.
    Also is Stan Brakhage in Cannibal! The Musical? I feel like he has a cameo in that. Maybe I'm making it up i dunno.
