Definitely not. He truly deserved it the most and this was expected to happen eventually. Easily earned for one of the best baseball players ever! Congrats Mariano Rivera! Legendary great!
As a Yankees fan, having the honor to watch this man for 19 years in the big leagues, 17 years as a closer is truly special. The aura he brought when he would come in a save situation was like no other in the regular and postseason. JUST FLAT OUT DOMINANT! Deserves his unanimous selection and Mariano the man, learning about his journey, faith and how humble he is, is the greatest.
Well said Louis. Without Mo, other excellent teams of the late '90's era such as the Braves, Mariners, Indians and even the Mets would probably have had at least couple of titles maybe even a dynasty instead of the Yanks, if Mo was on one of those other contenders as well.
Matthew weiss As a Boston fan I used to turn off the tv when he came in the 9th because I knew it was over even if it we were down by one with bases loaded no outs
@Alex Rivas that's fair. I can say living in that area at that time it would have been a big deal. But that's a fair point 20 years later it's just number 26. Of course that would have been 4 in a row, that hasn't been done too many times so it would have been a big deal to big baseball fans, but I get and respect what you're saying and mostly agree
Man, this guy. I can't even put into words the love I have for this guy. As a yankee fan, man he wss so humble, and a stone cold killer. Right up there with MJ, Gretsky, Brady, Bolt, Messi... just greatness
Mariano Rivera is the best and greatest baseball pitcher closer of all time. He should have expected this to happen because of all his career achievements, great success and legendary performances in the game playing for just one team only in the Yankees. A true professional whom set a great example for the MLB league in his 19 year seasons playing professionally the game he was able to change through his pitching style, the way he dominated teams with his pitches and overall masterful game. Definitely my favorite closer and saver ever. He finished games off in style, with finesse, passion and it was entertaining to watch his time in New York. Still remember those days in the mid 90's and early 00's. Such a unique and rare type of player with a blessed gift sent by God. It was an easy prediction that he'd get 100% votes for the Hall of Fame and be apart of greatness with other legends in this special class.
See, when they changed it to where they release the names of everyone who voted, these unanimous votes are finally starting to come. Like Jordan should have been unanimous.
Me too. He talks about it and unlike most other celebrities and even politicians these days, he is real and sincere about his faith from the tone of his voice.
I had the absolute honor and privilege to watch Mariano Rivera take the mound twice at old Yankee in 2007 and new Yankee in 2009 When Metallica hit the goosebumps
groom this dude on global economics, and have him run for a new political position - President of the World ...... I'm no fan of globalism, but in this case I'd vote for him in a second ...... it is virtually impossible to not like and not admire and not respect this human being
I just wish that being the good person I am , instead of god giving Mariano the cutter, he could’ve saved those poor kids who died of heat exhaustion in the car yesterday.
Very surprised considering he got rocked as a starter. Most pitchers will do better in the bullpen because they can increase velocity and whatnot. Remember when John smoltz started declining as a starter? They sent him to the bullpen and he won the cy young! Mariano was great as a closer but he would not have been that good as a starter. He is a borderline hofer and definitely should not have been unanimously voted in.
You are insane. The dude is the greatest closer in the history of the game, not even close. He's a 5 time champion. He's won virtually every award a player in his position could win, including Series MVP and Comeback Player of the Year. He was so dominant that he was practically a guaranteed win if you faced him. Just stop..
The closer is sometimes harder than the starter because a closer's job is to basically send the other team packing. In the postseason where every team is good and the last inning, batters are going to dig in to try and start a comeback rally and the increased pressure, the closer has to get those tough final 3 outs. Also, he basically dominated the game with one pitch: the cutter. I don't care if you're a starter, reliever, or closer, if you stayed in the show for a long time and you had one pitch that everyone knew that was coming and they still couldn't hit it, that means you're in the HOF.
Toshiki Takahashi interesting point. Remember though, pitching one inning also means that you are "digging in" as a pitcher and expending all your efforts. Also, people keep saying that everyone knew the cutter was coming, but he threw his 4 seamer an equal amount.
Name one other pitcher that had to deal with the pressure that Mariano dealt throughout the regular and post season. I can’t think of any other pitcher /closer ,who’s game relied on their performance. What’s even more impressive is that when the Yankees needed him, he delivered.....652 times. I think thats a feat that proves he should be treasured as one one of baseballs GOATs.
I’m sorry... Mariano was amazing, but KEN GRIFFEY JR, couldn’t get unanimous HOF..... but a Closer gets it..... is that some Yankee east coast bias or am I trippin?
+Porter Fernandez I think Jr Should have BUT you are questioning him over someone who is literally the best of all time at his position? Nah no problem here
@@currensea9094 Championships matter. That's the one thing Griffey's resume doesn't have. He never had the chance to shine on the brightest stage aka The World Series. Some accolades aren't strictly about the #'s.
HE WAS A CLOSER!!!! If he was on a bad team like Griffey then he wouldn’t be nearly the player he was. Griffey is in the convo for the GOAT. Do you guys really think Mariano is in the GOAT discussion??
You can always skip and hit the "mute" button if you don't want to hear his "faith' remarks Miranda. In America it's called Freedom of Religion or to Worship. Problem in this ongoing culture war is that those who don't have "Faith" and those who do have it force their views on each other.
@@kevo3985 Also I think some of the backlash against Rivera has occurred because of his recent support of Trump. While I can't stand Trump myself, Mo is entitled to his views of Faith and Politics. Plus until he publicly stated his support for the 45th President there almost little or no opposition to his religious beliefs during his playing career. Just being honest.
@@americangiant1003 I completely agree with you again and think you make a good point about the trump thing, it's a crazy time we live in for politics I'm surprised it didint cost him the unanimous decision, I'm no big fan of trump myself but I tend to lean right these days just cause the left has lost its mind on most things but no matter what our political alliances lay we should all be able to look pass politics and respect each other as human beings and welcome the exchange of different ideas that's what made America great the freedom to be yourself and the opportunity to better yourself
Were you surprised by the Mariano Rivera’ unanimous HOF vote?
That and helping Boston in 2004 gotta love him lol

No.
No cause he's the GOAT

More people walked on the moon than scored on Mariano Rivera in the postseason. Incredible
facts but he did give up some of the biggest hits in mlb history. Guess when u play in so many games ur bound to let that happen
@Alex Rivas im not a Yankees fan but i still wish they won in 2001.
Scott Brosius could’ve turned 2 before Luis Gonzalez got the bases loaded hit
@Alex Rivas that wouldn't have been just another trophy being it was 2 months after 9/11, however I agree with you on the Dbacks

This guy is the best pitcher I’ve ever seen.
I really appreciate how unapologetic he is about his faith. Specially in times like today. Keep that fire for Christ burning Mariano!!!
Very humble man ... greatest closer of all time

Halladay's wife giving the HOF speech was tough to watch

A real Legend
GOAT. What a person.
I HATE the Yankees. But this man is one of the greatest closers ever. I loved to cheer against him but that rarely happened. Congrats man!!!!!!
🐐 Greatness
🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
“You’re in that group”... um... he’s at the top of that group. Not too many you can look at and say “hes the greatest (something) ever”

Love him!!! Got to see him pitch at angles stadium for the last time
The people need more baseball content!!!

Greatest of all time
Don’t ask Rivera for an autograph.... it pisses him off
Best stopper alltime bar none He wore Jackie Robinson 42 with class and respect for the game
Chipper or Griffey should’ve been the first but all three deserve it
GOAT
It’s not a gift playa... you got the money
I abhorred the STankees as they destroyed my Braves teams in the WS.
But Rivera, that dude there, can a pitcher be considered "the GOAT" in baseball?
🐐 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Classic Yankee
He wasn't so great--he never appeared on 'Seinfeld'!
I love seeing people w that kind of platform give glory to the lord the world needs more of him we have strayed away ...
🐐
Why is he starting to look like Seal now with face dimples

Not the same position though. A CF that hit over 600 homers to me had more impact than Mariano
