There is a button on buildings to increase their effective range, so you dont have to rebuild them as often. You can also decrease the range afterwards if you so desire :) The Icons look like stock graphs
Hey Drae, instead of fighting them in the open, maybe you can funnel them using walls so that you only have to attack a few of them at a time and not get surrounded
from what I'd seen they'll just start smacking the walls, it's better to sally forth like drea is doing and keep your ranged units on the walls and out of the way.
Oh, I thought Drae could make another section with walls and leave an empty space where you would put the gate. I thought this would make the AI go "ooh look an easier pathway to destroy his castle"
@@thatdumbteen6812 From what Real Civil Engineer did he tried to make a seperate wall but it was half way complete, you would expect the AI to find the path of least resistance but the AI seems to be much simpler atm, they more or less stay on the same pathing until they start to blob around and then get stuck attacking a wall or whatever it is they are doing, or if they come upon a wall they just start to smack it :/ and you can't really seperate walls either because arrows are blocked by the walls so you can't create a "buffer" wall either.
@@thatdumbteen6812 yeah they won't follow path of least resistance - you can pretty much just put up a half wall on the first few days and when it's in their way they'll stop and attack it
Just some small tips: Upgrade your market for 3 gold, which increases the revenue from trade. Fair trade rate, means more resources for less. Second: Instead of simply deleting your lumberjacks, you can either extend their range (as on almost all buildings) but as well select which area they need to harvest. By doing this you don't have to move your lumberjacks etc around, which saves you resources (from T2 and T3 lumberjack), however it will increase travel times. Third: Make 2 layers of towers, if you use the big ones, you can put 24 archers / crossbowmen on "the frontline" of your walls, with either 4 catapults or 1 treb behind them, to increase the damage output on a single area. Lastly: Put a wall infront of your towers, ranged can shoot over them and they will protect your towers for longer (Empty walls, manned towers behind them)
They should make it like bloons tower defense where you can set what the catapults target first, like you can make them shoot bigger targets, targets in front, targets in the back. I think that’d add a lot to the combat
@@bobtheagent9087 I actually downloaded the demo because I don't got the money to buy the game, it's really interesting in its own way to be honest, would be on my list to buy the game if I could
one clever thing you can do is is build a straight line wall with a tower at the end shooting off from walls, allowing you to have extra reach way further out from your main wall, while still allowing your archers safe access to it
Literally just started playing, but one thing I've been using is the "increase work radius," or something to that effect. I noticed you would delete buildings if there was "no more wood in the area." If you extend the radius they will gather all of the wood from the further forests.

Also Drae if you did put walls in the outer side that would be smart as there would well obviously be two lines of defense and you wouldn’t have to worry about losing stuff like homes or farms.
Drae a solution to your tree problem is putting down a forester that plants trees. Idk in which part of the menu it is but this way you won't have to keep expanding outward
I came to know about this game because of your gameplay and I instantly fell in love with it. I bought it just a few mins after release and it's the best 7 bucks I've spent recently lmao
Someone mentioned this; Using natural obstacles and walls, create a funnel choke point. Don't gate it or the AI may attack the entire wall. Usually if there is no gate the AI will path to the opening in the wall. This was a trick in the early game of Ages Of Empires. You could defend it with a limited army ... at least it worked until they improved the AI.
As someone who has decades of experience in the "Castle Defense" genre, I'll tell you, you should definitely build more layers of walls, and you should also build them further out from your main base so you have more land to build on.
arrows will actually be blocked by walls, plus I dunnow how walls work if placed side by side, another youtube ran into that issue with the same idea in mind.
Since your going for a defensive strategy you should build those walls, starting out with wood then upgrading and put more trebuches around the castle walls. Might want to grab those crossbowman. Build the watch towers so you can see farther and not get caught off guard so easily. Build more houses so you can fill all your walls with crossbowman as well.
knowing a pretty good amount trebuchets, i can't lie it is so painful seeing the game say a trebuchet has low accuracy. They were the literal pinnacle of pre-cannon siege warfare, vastly superior to catapults in every way, especially accuracy
"Shit I missed" Jimmy "Don't worry, the wind blew the boulder a wee bit, that and I think the treb didn't get calibrated correctly, better luck next time" said John
Trebuchets were technically a type of catapult. The thing we have in mind when we think "catapult" is often called an onager or sometimes a mangonel, but the last one is also a term for another type of catapult which was basically a trebuchet without counterweight which was operated by manpower. It was also known as a traction trebuchet. The onager was actually not really used after the 6th century, so its use pretty much declined with the end of the Western Roman Empire. The stone was also a lot smaller than we think, usually smaller than a soccer ball. So it didn't have a AOE effect, it was just very good at killing people from far away. The typical "big spoon"-design was even earlier, the Romans actually started to use slings at the end of the arm to hold the stone quite quickly, because it was far more powerful. And we only think of it as a medieval thing, because it's so often depicted in videogames, movies ect. in this context. It was really more a thing of the Ancient period. Early and high medieval people usually used traction trebuchets until those were replaced by actual trebuchets around 1200. There is of course the possibility that onagers were sometimes still used in medieval times, just like trebuchets were and are still sometimes used in modern times. But compared onagers were extremely poor in accuracy, they didn't shoot very far compared to later siege engines and were also less powerful. Using a onager during medieval times would've been seen like using a bow and a sword in WW2 (I look at you, Jack Curchill). But on the other side, onager-like mechanism were used during ww1 to throw grenades into enemy trenches.
Turn it into a REAL tower defense, build a maze out of walls and towers, make it open clear way to your castle, so enemies would go straight into it, and put archers on the walls. =)
When you tell troops to go to a certain location the arrow is which way they are facing if you hold down the click you can change that if it's like most games
I honestly don't know if it's intentional not having the towers to give extra vision, but having them would help a lot in the waves, because you could see the wave way further ahead, and would make it easier to estimate the size of the wave
arent you able to build a forester to plant trees? and I think you should consider building watchtowers to help with me seeing how big the wave is and get a slight better idea on what direction the peasents are coming from
I absolutely love this games premise, I think it's slightly overpriced but let's see if they come up with new content and expanded regions. More importantly would be factions/races.
Drae, your “trebuchet” aren’t trebuchet, they are catapults, it is better and manpower and resource wise to produce and move catapults than use trebuchets which trebuchets are better placed static behind something like a wall or on a wall. I guess you can say resource and manpower wise, to class both, trebuchets are better for defending while catapults are better at sieges. The only time trebuchets are more okay for sieging is when there is time to move the resources to construct them to fire from a far distance away at a fortification or stronghold or maybe at a camp, but at that point it would be more resource, manpower, and time conservative to use catapults even if it is at the cost of range, at least catapults require less resources and have the potential to be mobile depending on if wheels are put on the frame of a catapult to allow for movement. The upside of trebuchets would be that they are larger meaning that they allow for larger projectiles to be lobbed at enemies and depending on velocity, mass, and weight would give the results on how far a projectile is lobbed. But overall, if the projectile between a catapult and a trebuchet is the same, then a trebuchet produces more power, speed due to power, and distance. Edit: did see at the end when you actually started to build some actual trebuchets, good on you for placing them on a wall.
