I’m thrilled that destiny had those plans Sunday, because I would love to tell you (and your brother Rodney, and Fonce if I could, RIP) how incredible the music that you created together is, and how it continues to be the soundtrack to many moments in my life. The grooves, arrangements, strings, and lyrics have all firmly stood the test of time, and the songs continually blow me away as I listen to them deeper and differently over the years and grow with them. My wife and I share a deep connection with music and like to dive into liner notes while we listen, finding interesting connections between records in our collection. Over the last 6 months or so, we kept coming back to albums with your credits on them, especially recently where their positive energy has helped lift spirits around confusing times. We ended up grouping the Mizell-related records together, and eventually laid out some plans to put them into one big mix. So here it is. And it reached you! I’m blown away. My only regret of this mix is that I somehow forgot “Dominoes”, a personal favorite! I blame the fact that I played 4 other songs from “Places & Spaces”, and in the heat of the mix I must overlooked how one album can have so many stone cold classics. There’s always next time, as the music is forever. Thank you for your incredible contributions to the world of music. So sorry I just ran into this mix today. I would have sent Larry a msge. To tell him how I single handed discovered his & his brothers & the musicians work. In 1976 I by chance had become head of black music section in the Netherlands leading import recordshop. I did the ordering & listened to most of the new stuff coming in every week. Among that was Caricatures. I knew nothing about it. Hadn't read a review in any of the US magazines we used for info and never a client of the shop had tipped the Mizells or albums by them. So I was on my own. But that didn't cause doubt: I was in ecstasy! In the months after I bought all the records I had missed. Just a bit angry, for being 'late for the party' but OK, I was still in school when the guys had started....
