Barefoot in Mullyneeny brought me here. A memoir written by Bryan Gallagher. Lovely book. I was curious about this farewell song sung by a family on a grey dawn as one of them left for America. The whole family gathered to sing as he left in the pony trap that day. Made me wonder if he ever saw their faces, or they his, again. Very good book.
I learned this song at 2 or 3 years old from a man in Coolea, Co. Cork. It really brought back memories, as I probably haven't heard it in over 50 years. Thank you.
geeeze, so much for flotation tyres ,,, is that a bicycle wheel on the bog barrow? Donegal did'nt have the "appliance of scence" like 'the Wessst' using low ground pressure- wide wooden wheels!!
You with the pen in your ear, you are very rude !! It says a lot about you! These beautiful Irish song are internationally famous and loved. Bet you can't sing a note .
janey macks, yer right U2irishband. What is that "plotach" doing at all, at all.? Firsst I thought he was spread'n cut( wet) turf. Now I agree he is making ' a reek' of dried turf. He'd be faster throw'n it alright. Shure lishen to me this, his 'oul lad is bigger amadain not to stop him washntn time!!
