Who could possibly argue after learning the truth? As a female British teenager my idea of horror was the contradictory attraction of the handsome Kennedy wild-boys the RFK family seemed to allow free-range to, and possibly other teenage men who might want to copy them and bring their recklessness and chaos to girls of my age. This book just never goes the way I expect, and I'm on the edge of my seat every episode, lol. This chapter was especially shocking for me because my mom, sister, and I have all worked as housekeepers.
These chapters were bonkers! I bet dollars to donuts that if Ethel didn't have that Kennedy surname she would have been in prison for assault! I'm curious as to who was funding Ethel and her den of delinquent offspring during this time....??? Does the book say?
This episode has been one of the most challenging to listen to b/c of the callous way Ethel treated people. Her complete disregard for those who worked for her, as well as for family members, showed that she was a very unhappy & angry woman. I realize that she lost her husband in a tragic way, but that does not give her an excuse to treat people this way. How she could go to mass daily & still exhibit these behaviors makes me wonder if she in fact ever had any type of relationship with God. Sounds like Hickory Hill was a hell on earth
You are so good at portraying Ethel's anger. As bad as I felt about the way she treated people I couldn't help but laugh when you were gritting your teeth. I loved the part where she walked into the wall and had to pause as I was laughing so hard. I remember as a kid that I didn't like her. Didn't know her but I just thought she had a mean look on her face. I believe everything that's in the book about her. Can't wait for the next chapter.
What a dreadful person she was. I try to make allowances as she was a widow the same as me. I have always had a housekeeper and she's very close to being one of the family. Christmas presents every year, same with birthdays. 4 weeks paid annual leave. One week per year accumulative sick pay. Anything over a 6 hour day is classified as overtime. She will help organise dinner parties, but, will often be a guest at them and will help me bring out dishes to serve and come in early (overtime) to clean up. She's been with me now for 18 years and her pension plan pays out at 20 years, if she decides to stay an extra 5 years her plan increases x 2. I just really never want her to leave. She has a 2 bedroom apartment on the property with her own entrance. I absolutely love anyone who helps me it's a privilege for me to have them, a privilege not everyone has and I feel nothing but appreciation for any staff I may employ.

I worked for a famous country singer & his wife in the 80's. They treated all their employee's with respect, consideration & generosity. Neither one was born with a silver spoon in the mouth, quite the opposite.

Ethel took advantage of people who worked to support their families. They weren’t given money via trust funds and because they were stockholders of family businesses. Money does not equate class as Ethel’s actions show.
I went to high school in Fairfax County, Virginia, during the early 1960’s. Ethel S.K. was not the only one like this. I am seventy-eight now and still have memories of such violent moments and people. The irony of this is I never saw such behavior around the U.S. Marines and their dependents. Only one individual, a general’s son was a sadistic creep. I avoided him like the plague. Chief
It would have been so funny if the fired employees just showed up the next day like Larry David did. Surely she couldn’t be bothered to remember their faces
I had sleepless nights and a bit of anxiety working for an eye doctor who was moody and unapproachable. I can't imagine what these poor staffers went through.
I worked as a kennel tech for a Vet who charged clients more when he was in a bad mood. Based on how he treated staff, that was at least 80 percent of the time!
I have to say that you are so correct in how shocking Ethel is in her treatment of people. It's interesting that no one slapped her back - metaphorically.

I’m in shock at the way Ethel treated people. Especially the slapping. She obviously kept getting away with it. It must have been working for her. God bless everyone who did!
I never understand how on earth RFK married this woman? How? This rich families select either real beauties (Joan) or woman with regal elegance (Jackie). I mean in addition to everything she and her family was wild and raw and she had so average beauty with buck-teeth 😮 Look at her children! He was so blindly loyal, almost pathologically, that couldn’t see her embarrassing behavior. He was either desperate to be loved or so in-love .I can’t make sense of it other way.
I think that despite everything, being so famous, so popular, and intensely loved like a rock star (and just as intensely hated),he struggled with a deep inferiority complex that he couldn’t overcome. She was the first, and perhaps the only person who loved him more than anyone else, and for that, he felt forever indebted to her. I believe this is why he pathologically normalized her behavior and was blind to her faults. As for the rumors of his infidelity, I find them hard to believe.Because she was always with him, barely giving him a moment to breathe alone . He simply wouldn’t have had time . In other books, you can read that she was at the justice department every single workday, every (!) 😮 She even accompanied him on his very short daily business trips as Attorney General. She lived as if she were glued to him.
Both Ethel and Bobby came from dysfunctional families. I don't know if I can call love to what they have. If there was love it wasn't a disinterested love from both parts. Ethel married because she liked and wanted to be part of the Kennedy clan (and their mystic and status), part of her dedication to him ( and his career) was in part a way to elevate herself as a "wife of senator/president...". From his part, I think we found a woman as religious and competitive as him and his family. Who would look the other way to any of his flaws and obey blindly to his commands (to the point of distance herself from her own family).
I think the surprising part is that she was clearly inferior to him in terms of beauty. And he was just as wealthy as she was. Both Jack and Ted would have never married someone with her looks. Impossible.
I just want you to know … the voices you do really make these reviews 4,000 times better. You should read books for Audible after your kids get grown and you have more time ❤
My husband's nephew married a woman who speaks to almost every one rudely and with distain. We made the mistake of going to dinner with them ONCE. Never again. We bent over backwards, trying to be polite and kind, and then tipped very generously to the poor waitress. We were concerned that if we said anything to her, she would take it out on her husband and children when we left.😢😢
Ethel appears to be a person traumatized more than once and can be overwhelmed of even doing daily task. Sadly privilege and money enabled her behavior

I'd told them exactly why I wasn't happy. The National Enquire wasn't a big thing then. She could've sold that story. All the money that Ethel's father had was made off of coal miners like my father. I don't know if dad worked directly for a company that her father had. If not, some other poor coal miners did. Funny that when miners started getting paid well here , a certain administration got them shut down.
Though Bobby had been assassinated, he HAD held one of the highest offices in he land. These chapters were bonkers! I bet dollars to donuts that if Ethel didn't have that Kennedy surname she would have been in prison for assault! I'm curious as to who was funding Ethel and her den of delinquent offspring during this time....??? Does the book say?
I believe that the book mentions the Kennedy trust fund, and how she was abusing that too.
Hooray!!! Another video on this snowy day. Thank you!
Nah, this behavior begins early in people. The tragedy was awful, but she was already "Ethel"
Seems like she was always a pig, but maybe her husband's passing and having to raise all of those children alone made her worse.
Oh my stars, Cheere, you are quite the voice actress--my blood pressure went up when you impersonated Ethel yelling when she grabbed the secretary.
🙂🙏🏼💕
Cheere, you look absolutely gorgeous! Not that you don’t every video, I’m just loving the red lipstick, and the whole ensemble this morning.
Thank you for waking up so every morning to do your reading and commentary for all of us. It really brightens so many of our days. 😊
My goodness! I've never heard of such abominable behaviour, how could anyone ever treat other human beings that way? Ethel gets worse and worse as the book goes on.
Sounds like Borderline PD.
I worked for a famous country singer & his wife in the 80's. They treated all their employee's with respect, consideration & generosity. Neither one was born with a silver spoon in the mouth, quite the opposite.
If she was like this in front of her staff….what was she like in private with her children? Hard to believe her level of anger…her physical abuse to help. WOW.
Thank you for coming to rescue me on night shift😊
Good morning Cheere. Cant wait to hear today’s chapters. Wow, what a book!! Who knew??
I have never said this, but Cheere you are a treat.
👹WHERE’S THE FOOD👹 had me dying quietly at my desk😂😂 obviously I’m sorry for her poor staff but that was amazing! I’m going to be thinking about that for the rest of the day 😂
In regard to Ethel’s distain for having to repeat herself to the hired help, her Boston accent is no picnic to decipher!!
Did she have a Boston accent? I thought hers was more midwestern having grown up with family from Chicago. I guess I haven’t listened to her speak often enough.
@cheeredenise You’re right Cheere! I was thinking of her picking it up from the rest of the clan!
They probably couldn’t understand her through the yelling anyway!!
@@cheeredeniseI was born and raised in Chicago. Ethel had a Chicago accent.
@@julietrask7497My parents had/have a St. Louis accent and growing up well outside the city I was stunned by just now discovering that Chicago has a specific accent too? I thought the rest of the Midwest outside of StL and the Ozarks sounded like people on tv and my neighbors do. Now I have to find audio of Ethel speaking.
@@cheeredeniseno.
If even half of what we are hearing is true, every minute Ethel spent "practicing" her faith was a waste of time and a blight upon the name of the Lord.
It was a very shallow understanding of faith. Like a child praying to God for a particular gift for Christmas. Just odd.
I love the Kennedy books, but I enjoy just hearing you read and tell me the story. You have the personality for this. Very wise and bright young lady. But to see you grab a boob in outrage over Ethel’s name tag problem is the pièce de résistance.
You are the best thing on UA-cam
😂 I totally agree!
Good afternoon Cheere . In bed recovering from a bad fall. Nothing better than another chapter of this gripping page turner! Happy happy days 🙏🙏🙏
I hope that you start feeling better soon! 🙏🙏
I hope you heal quickly. Feel better.

If you're able, a soak in a tub of hot water and Epsom Salts does wonders for soothing out and calming muscle burn and joint pain. It's so nice... 😊 hope you're back on the mend soon!
Ethel took advantage of people who worked to support their families. They weren’t given money via trust funds and because they were stockholders of family businesses. Money does not equate class as Ethel’s actions show.
Well, the Democratic Party were the party of the working class, after all.
I feel sorry for anyone who worked for Ethel. Such an angry woman.
Your hair amazes me! It looks different every time I see you. And always great!
Eleven children!
That was her choice.
She knew after the first child she could not stand taking care of them.
What a horrible person.
Wow wee! Another amazing chapter and Cheere Denise is such a fabulous narrator!
Chief
Funny she didn’t see the irony in revering the Kennedy name yet embarrassed the heck out of it all the time.
@AlysonMcNulty Gosh! That's terrible. So uncomfortable for you.
I worked for a boss like this.
My first boss in 1971
was a German doctor who was verbally abusive. I left after one year somewhat worse for wear.
Yay another chapter in this book. Your commentaries are great!
I have to say that you are so correct in how shocking Ethel is in her treatment of people. It's interesting that no one slapped her back - metaphorically.
Closed school and this book .2025 looking up
Three videos in three days! Is... is it somehow Christmas again?
I cannot wait until later this week. I want to hear your reading now . Dang it . The next chapter is going to be a doozy . Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I always hated reading. I get distracted easily and it’s hard for me to retain information. So a lot of the time I have to reread a page several times. I have a learning disability so i haven’t picked up a book to read since attending community college. Watching your videos has made me want to read. I never thought I would be unable to put a book down because it’s such a great read. Thank you for inspiring me to want to read 🙏🏻
Thank you Cheers. Your ability to sound like the people in the book is amazing. Your princess Diana voice - spot on. King Charles - spot on. Never heard Ethel speak that I can recall but your portrayal of how she speaks in her rages captures the rage narcissists have. I know. My dearly departed mother was a narcissist and they do make life hell for anyone in their circle except for their favorites. That’s why I think I’m going to stop listening at this point as it makes me feel too sad - hits too close to home. I’ll catch up with you on the next book.
I watched a documentary on Ethel...I came away thinking shes a Saint..whatan abrupt turn with this book!
I’m in shock at the way Ethel treated people. Especially the slapping. She obviously kept getting away with it. It must have been working for her. God bless everyone who did!
I hate for this book to end!!! You are a great narrator and love the insights you put into the book!!!
This was a great reading
I never understand how on earth RFK married this woman? How? This rich families select either real beauties (Joan) or woman with regal elegance (Jackie). I mean in addition to everything she and her family was wild and raw and she had so average beauty with buck-teeth 😮 Look at her children! He was so blindly loyal, almost pathologically, that couldn’t see her embarrassing behavior. He was
either desperate to be loved or so in-love .I can’t make sense of it other way.
She had money, was blindly besotted with him, allowed him other women and didn't show the anger with him.
@@maryarigho5868 I agree. A certain kind of man prefers a woman who caters exclusively to his ego.
Impossible.
This was fantastic😂 I feel bad for these people (especially her children) - but, Cheere, you are over the top! Holy moly. 🤪🤯😯
I just want you to know … the voices you do really make these reviews 4,000 times better. You should read books for Audible after your kids get grown and you have more time ❤
Meghan must have taken lessons from Ethel.
Exactly
Thank you for another wonderfully entertaining read!!
Just a recommendation for the future. The Kennedy Heirs by J. Randy Taraborrelli 😊
It looks interesting
I have that book in my shelf but haven’t read it yet. Next on the list now.
@@Bibi-ms4nm I was thinking of buying the audio book
My husband's nephew married a woman who speaks to almost every one rudely and with distain. We made the mistake of going to dinner with them ONCE. Never again. We bent over backwards, trying to be polite and kind, and then tipped very generously to the poor waitress. We were concerned that if we said anything to her, she would take it out on her husband and children when we left.😢😢
Your reading/narration of this book is terrifying!!🤣🤣
Your narration is outstanding 👏 thank you for this channel. I really appreciate you
Excellent episode! Thank you, Cheere!
Ethel appears to be a person traumatized more than once and can be overwhelmed of even doing daily task. Sadly privilege and money enabled her behavior
This book is shocking. To think that this kind of abuse of staff was tolerated and allowed to take place on a regular basis.
Im surprised none of them tried to sue her but she was a Kennedy so im sure had the best of attorneys
Thank you for your wonderful reading of this biography and others, Cheere Denise. I like nothing better than at the end of the day to open my laptop, put on my headphones and listen to your latest instalment of The Other Mrs. Kennedy. That done, I and watch some of the other books you've done. I'm dreading catching up with everything and only having one session to watch each day! :-)
Seems like Ethel wasted a lot of time at church, as she did not learn anything. Nor did she exemplify anything of the faith she professed to have had. What a sad person.
You said it, her behaviour is absolutely appalling, she should have been prosecuted!
I absolutely love your reading of these books
Ethel Kennedy’s book is awesome the way you tell it and I your intonations.I will start Spare soon.Love each chapter!
People trying to hold it together on the big things often lose it over little things.
Good morning! Snow in the mountains of Virginia!
Same
It’s very apparent that Ethel had some mental issues and should have been under a doctor’s care and medicated.
HOLY CRAP.
Which administration had the mine shut down?
Though Bobby had been assassinated, he HAD held one of the highest offices in he land. People were too afraid of the consequences of speaking to the press, still idolized the Kennedy name, & would be ashamed to recall some of these tales. Despite the veracity & their lack of blame, they would be tagged "troublemakers", "disloyal", "unemployable', be blackballed, etc. Not worth it.
