Centrelink payments set to increase

- Centrelink payments - including the age pension - will increase more than two per cent from March 20.
The increase will be the largest since 2013 and is set to cost the government an additional $2.2 billion.
Under the new arrangement, the rate for a single person receiving an age pension, disability support pension or carer payment will rise more than $20 a fortnight - to around $987.
There are concerns the increase won't help pensioners with the rise in inflation.
$20 to pensioners , $20,000 to politicians .
YES YOU GOT IT SPOT ON
And much more to Liberals and Nationals mates?
My rent is put up $25 a week ever year. Do the math government plus utilities through the roof and Woolworths ringing every cent they can... again do some math government THIS WONT HELP my foreign owned rental is pricing me out third world country within a first world country... @Deng Nicca you f#cken clown. Grow up
Yes milk has gone up 35c a litre, and I could only afford 7 litres of petrol this fortnight.
@Deng Nicca how do you know the person you’re replying to isn’t elderly or disabled, a lot of people on welfare are legitimate and they need it. Not everyone is a young and healthy, fully-capable-of-working-but-just-doesn’t-want-to welfare cheat.
Nearly every elderly person who comes from a low socioeconomic background will end up on the aged care pension, are you seriously imply people over 70 with all the health issues that arise at that age are all “lazy” and should still be working? That they don’t deserve to retire after paying tax for decades to help fund the pension in the first place? We really shouldn’t be throwing insults at people who reveal they’re on a pension when you have no evidence they’re a cheat. You don’t even know how old they are!
Gonna cost you more in fines for not voting. Do what the rest of us do and be thankful for small mercies.

They haven't even done anything about affordable housing for years either. People have been desperately screaming for cheaper housing and nothing done.
As much as I wanted to come home to Australia after living abroad in Germany, at least for 100 Australian dollars I can over fill my trolley and then some when it comes to grocery shopping. Coles Woolies fuel companies and even Aldi in Australia and their extortion rates are only bleeding the country dry. $6 for a packet of chip that’s three quarter’s empty lol wtf Australia, very unaustralian.

Would be ok if people that have the specialist paper work, and need the help can even get on the DSP or NDIS it's impossible, the government have made it so hard that even a person with 1 eye and a puddle of flesh on the ground can not get on, like running around a circle, with ever-changing rules and no help to get even on it. The amount of people that can not even get around, normal for what ever problems, are forced to live on newstart because we can not work or do anything. So as usual nothing to help use at all, typical government rubbish.
And there are people who just fraudulently obtain the pension.
Truth. I know some lowlife scumb*$ who's on the disability pension since he was 22 and still receiving the same payment 25 years later. The POS is riding around on his Harley to get around his disability lol.

October 2020 my average weekly supermarket spend was around 100, it's now around 150 for the same basic item's. This doesn't include the butcher & fruit & veg shopping either.
And now you got this fuel price increase BS as if people aren't already struggling to stay above poverty line with fast jumping inflation rate.
You better cut out all that chocolate, smokes, popcorn and ice cream you are buying then, your trolley was full of the rubbish….
Try cutting meat out of meals and replacing it for plant based alternatives they are often cheaper
I’m finding it very tough now.. I don’t drink alcohol nor do I smoke or gamble. No holidays, or dining out. I buy clothing rarely .. my chemist medicine is 100 per fortnight then have rent and utilities.. damn internet and mobile monthly bill is outrageous $160.. but must have these days. I’m still grateful but it’s getting tougher now with high petrol prices which by the way will go even higher .. maybe up to $6 per litre, who knows? But it’s getting scary .. plus impending WW3 is coming..
I hear ya sister. Financially my only treat each week is a burger and chips, other than that everything goes towards rent, bills, pet care. I have not had a hair cut in over a year.. and an added treat would be to afford to buy a cheap, new pair of slippers right now. Craaaaazy times we live. Rise pay while everything goes up.
What difference does it make when pay is low and everything stays low. It comes back to being the same as b4.
But the problem are the people rising the price.
What about ppl with children.and Single jobseekers!
And as soon as I get an increase it is immediately taken off me as my rent in Govt housing goes up immediately...can't win.
Oh wow a whole $10 a week that’s not even going help towards the petrol let alone anything else that’s gone up in the last two years.

Groceries and fuel have gone up about 100% in the last 12 months, govt takes away my job hmm let's see, will this help? 🙄
@Nick Santos. I couldn't resort to that but yes I bet there's already been an increase in that. I'm buying vegetables direct from the grower now. Screw the supermarkets. Fresh picked that day and cheaper 👍
Last year I received an increase in my rent assistance of $50. My community housing service provider then upped my rent $56. This year I've been warned by the same government funded provider that when I get an increase to my payment that it will be enough (probably) to cover this year's increase. Well you shouldn’t have stole all the money then, I knew you were going to get caught one day…
$ 20 a fortnight wouldn’t even feed a pet hamster. You go to a cafe once a fortnight for a treat. a small cup of coffee and buttered toast cost $20.
At least it allays my fears somewhat that pensions are going to be discontinued in the near future.
They would NEVER throw away buying people's votes with stolen money.

About time the seniors of this sad country were recognised. They built it !!!
And the current generation who are building it can't afford to even buy a 1 bedroom apartment because their taxes are going towards their landlord's pension fund
The silent generation and those that came before built this nation, the boomers did nothing but capitalize on the wealth from the previous generations and vote for governments that pandered to them with low taxes and heaping stacks of government gibs, now we're stuck with an over bureaucratized and heavily indebted government no one can afford, but as long as a generation of narcissistic sociopaths can live out their days from on high upon the backs of the over taxed and under paid then fuck it, it's all good.
Stfu!! Many older folks have enough money and they make false claims. And no they didn't build it. Many younger people built it.
