I’d like to add, there are disabilities that don’t have next to anything to do with a person’s actual body. Mainly Autism, ADHD, Schizophrenia, etc. These, much like visible, invisible, and/or chronic disorders, are very real and can have major effects on people’s day-to-day lives, and are also often misrepresented into stereotypes. Like with other forms of disability, if you are someone who doesn’t have experience with the mental disability you want to give your character, doing research or even (consentually) asking someone who has the disorder about it, is always a good idea! I say this as a person who is neurodivergent and has Autism, ADHD, and anxiety. I don’t mean this as a critique of Beo’s video, this is just a thought that I had to add to the discussion! Ciao! ❤

I don’t hear people mentioning ADHD as a disability and it’s made me feel very excluded, not only from the disabled community, but also sometimes from the neurodivergent community.

Yeah! Villains/antagonists can have them, but that should NEVER be the reason for them being a villain/antagonist.

I like using visible but healed injuries to sort of represent experience with something. I have an insect-like demon character who's elderly but quite buff and doesn't need anything to support his body, and one of his antennas is completely cut off after an “assasination” (it's called execution in my universe in this case) turned into a fight where the target died anyway due to a mistake he made. He uses the now cut off antenna as a lesson and therefore learns from his mistake. He ain't evil though, I'd say he's more of an anti-hero because the target was a villain.

Sometime ago i created an OC who has a prosthetic leg, so this video has a lot of good advice!
When i put a particular detail on a character i make sure to not make that detail their whole personality
Making a little detail a character's whole personality is annoying, it makes them one dimensional and stereotypical

3:26 Thank you for bringing this up! I had a few OCs+headcanons of characters who would use a wheelchair due chronic fatigue, chronic pain and lacked a leg, but I was absolutely annoyed with the wheelchairs in Gacha Club because I would need to realign the wheelchair and character every time I needed them to move and I hated how the arm rest was behind the character due to how flat it felt. When GL2 came out, I wanted them to have the wheelchair be special effects in the extra section so I would be able to animate characters who use wheelchairs, but I was sorely disappointed by the fact that the only chair in the entire game was a swivel gaming chair, and that other people had to make the wheelchair out of an oc when it should of already been in the game.

I actually have a set of disabled OCs, my main one having autism, asthma, and a chronic fainting disorder and the other being a group of mainly female racers who are all disabled in some way. One of them, for example, is diabetic but doesn't let that stop her from racing. Seraphina mitigates her disability with an insulin pump and she has a service dog who knows how and when to turn it on and off.

As person who is disabled myself (Cystic Fibrosis), seeing well-researched representation of either my illness or other respiratory-related illnesses is such an amazing thing, since it's so rare in most modern media like video games, shows, movies, and even written content. I love seeing these sorts of things being brought to Chibimation, because while even though I personally don't need mobility aids, I know that people who do are probably going to be really happy knowing they're included by such an amazing development team.

This is so helpful, honestly. I'm neurotypical and don't have any disabilities so I wasn't sure where to start when making a character. I want to write a character who uses an ambulatory wheelchair after an accident that affected his liver (I REALLY have to investigate what that actually implies, it's just a concept) and a character with sociopathy (because I realized that they're often represented as villains even though sociopathy is a disorder that DOESN'T MEAN THEY'RE INHERENTLY EVIL)

I actually have two dnd characters that both have disabilities. One of them is mute and communicates through sign languages and also a magic stone that she can use to telepathically communicate (but it really drains her). The other one is a harpy who can’t fly so she has to hop to get around, so she developed arthritis in her legs so she actually has a sledge to get around that is pulled by three dogs. The dogs are also big enough that she can ride one (she is relatively light because partially hollow bones) if she absolutely has to.

Edit to add: I feel like the last stereotype could become a really good story on how to overcome that and make the disabled character become their own person despite the able-bodied characters around them. (I say this as someone who feels like they’re experiencing this and the stereotype before it.)
Also, if you haven’t yet, can you add SMOs as well as AFOs? I have both so I if you don’t mind I wanna see that along the AFOs. Unless you’re adding that with the AFOs. 😅

Very informative- makes my life easier XD unfortunately I have to deal with one of my friends saying characters don't count as disabled cus "you won't get away with calling them that on tiktok" and I can't lol (the character they said that about has chronic pain, constant tremors in their hands, and a lack of fine motor skills, so idk what they were on about) I also have trouble explaining disabilities related to fantasy elements still count- (ex. A character not having a tail when their species normal has a very useful one or not having magic when pretty much everyone else does- and their making me doubt if those even count anymore XD)

Hello. I was diagnosed with severe ADHD when I was younger. Most don’t even see that as a disability, and it usually doesn’t when it’s not a very serious condition. But with how I and many other have it, it is something that can definitely be classified as a disability. I can describe my ADHD like having 7 thoughts at the same time and switching between them randomly. I’ve been prescribed and taken Adderall for 5 years now, it basically just slightly improve my focus for about 5 hours a day as I take it daily. My main oc doesn’t have ADHD despite having most of my personality traits. One of my side ocs who I completey base off my ADHD is obviously more expressive of my personality as I developed it with my conscious struggle of ADHD. But having ADHD and other mental/psychiatric disabilities/disorders is an experience that I don’t even think people with their disorder can even fully relate to others with the same disorder. Idk even know what I just spiraled this comment into.

@@ShiningStarAhsokaTanofanas far as I know, mute is a term for those who physically can’t speak, and nonverbal is for those who have trouble speaking (which doesn’t relate to issues with the vocal chords).
If you are thinking of people who call nonverbal people “mute”, you are correct. However, if you are talking about mute people, that is incorrect. Is your friend mute (as in having serious damage to the vocal cords, that makes it hard or even unable for them for speak)? If they are mute (not nonverbal), then I may be incorrect.

I have a character I made way back in 2013 when I was a kid still and I loved her so much I kept using her and tweaking her a bit to fit her in any Universe I was currently obsessed with. A few years back, maybe 3, I decided to give her an actual story and refresh her design; I'm completely honest when I tell you I have no idea why I just drew her with a prosthetic leg and I kept it. I gave her a general story of how her father (who was recently widowed) had to make her prosthetics himself for a few years (based on irl stories in my country) and he posted a few videos or pictures of him working on the prototypes and upgrading them as my character outgrew the last one, slowly and very naturally other low income families would reach out to him and ask if he could help them and their family members, and overtime dad started a small company, my character as his daughter and the primary reason he started making the prosthetics started a "modeling" career as the face of the brand. I don't have a story on why she doesn't have a full leg, maybe she was born like that or lost her leg in early childhood, I just focused mainly on "she's not just her disability but that doesn't mean she should pretend it doesn't exist either"

Which by the way, I don’t know why but I hate the word disability I don’t know why though. 5:14 with the character template it reminds me of a “template”(?) I made and use for some of my characters, I’ve been using it since April 8th, 2024 I did update it, it now has 5 new things added to it (if people want I’ll let them guess what the 5 new things are) but it goes like Fn:

    Height:

    Build:
    Handedness:
    Age:
    Nationality:
    Ethnicity:
    Skin:
    Hair:
    Eyes:
    Aesthetic:
    Random facts:
    “Disability/Disabilities”:
    “Role”:
I don’t know why I have disabilities and role in quotes.
Also, would it be okay if I use myself and my experience with the disability for my character? Like hypothetically, if I have ADHD and my character has ADHD can I use my personal experience + other’s experiences?

As someone who has been playing oc makers for almost a decade and there are none with afos and kafos or any disabled stuff.

As a disabled person myself, I wouldn't even call mine a disability lmao, it really doesn't affect my life, like at all. My right ear is covered fully with skin so many people assume I can't hear at all, but I can hear mumbles and overtime understand what they're saying even with only my right ear. People don't even realize it even if my hair gets cut its edges, they really only notice it when I directly tell them.
Many just assume my life is horrible because of my hearing disability but I can hear perfectly fine, even sometimes better than people with two open ears lol
Because of this, one thing I really love about disabled characters(like what the video mentioned) is when their whole character isn't just revolving around their disability, for example, Toph, even the gang sometimes forgets Toph is blind, because her character is just more than her disability itself and people focus way more on her than her blindness.

Are there more tutorials like how to make animals in gacha or how to make horryfighing monsters in gacha because especially the latter one would be interesting because there are so many ways to make a monster that looks horryfighing like one based on trypophobia (the fear of small holes that are close each other ) or arachnophobia (the fear of spiders) or how to make different fantasy and /or D&D races like dragon born or orks in gacha without them looking weird because especially orks who are mostly depicted as big brute like creatures that have huge tusks and are build stronger would be cool

I have two ocs who kinda superhero/knights, and in my story one of the things I’m trying to do is show that this job is very dangerous and can very easily leave someone disabled.
One of them is missing an arm, the other, who is a bit younger and thinks she’s bullet proof, needs hearing aids because she didn’t use proper sound protection.

I have an oc named Avery (He/they) and he uses a cane. I made them in gacha life 2, but the only cane didn't fit with the way I made his body or with his overall style. So, I used a scythe instead that I adjusted to fit.

I actually just made a new oc with a problem with his legs and he has crutches, but i didnt know how to make it like.. a thing that never ends besides some lore. He's a demon with human and demon form, and in both forms he can't walk, but he can fly in demon form, just not human form. He died like that and can feel real human emotions and nerves in his human form, but never ages.

a thing i wanted to add is as someone who has misrepresented/stigmatised neurodivergences it pisses me off so much how every neurodivergent character ever just. has autism. and that's seen as a good thing. like having autism is FAR from the only way to be neurodivergent, they know that... right???

    • @WhyAreAllTagsTaken
      @WhyAreAllTagsTaken 21 день тому +1

I KNOW!! Like, yea ONE of my neurodivergent characters has autism, but that’s more of a neutral part of his life and he has other conditions that make him neurodivergent (DID for example). I have other neurodivergent characters, one of them has combined ADHD and another has OCD, but when I talk about them being neurodivergent people say “well, not really” like what do you mean not really???

    • @WellThinkOfATitle
      @WellThinkOfATitle 21 день тому +2

@WhyAreAllTagsTaken WHAT DO THEY MEANNNN NOT REALLY???
also i have 6 ocs with autism, 1 with inattentive type ADHD, one who KIND OF has DID (it's complicated), 1 who MIGHT have PPD - i need to research it more, 1 who has ASPD + HPD, 1 who has NPD, and 1 who has NPD _and_ BPD (he also has brain damage)(doesnt sound very pleasant to be this guy) - i myself have combined type ADHD and NPD (the latter of which people looove to use agaisnt me in argument for some reason? which is an interesting decision on their part that's for sure)

Honestly I think I could do great at making characters that have disabilities because of my experience having family with them and I am dyslexic which is a non visible language disability, we also think I have ADHD but my doctor retired before confirming and my great-grandma from old age has almost completely lost her hearing and sight and uses a cane while another great-grandma of mine is paralyzed from the waist down so I think I'd do good making characters with disabilities because I have experience and know people with them

Can you make one touching up about chronic illnesses, please? I feel like chronic illnesses aren't often talked about, represented, or when they are it's often wrong. As someone with a chornic illness, I don't need a walking aid, or anything like this, but it's still very severe and messes with my life. I'm also gonna say even with the chornic illnesses I still can function and do stuff, but it's hard. Often times chronic illnesses are seen as making someone unable to do anything or just feeling "sick", no depth in it. I would like more representation for people like me!

Edit: this was very helpful! I wanted a character with a disability but was sure to to approach it. I hated the stereotypes because I've had friends and family with disabilities. I'll definitely use this video and follow it for future characters! I want to include everyone I my content, growing up I loved Gacha and I rarely ever saw someone of my skin color or disabled and I want to bring that to Gacha (like many other creators). 🌸🩷
