Georgina is a wonderful trumpet player. I love the presentation. I like both trumpets for very different recordings ... both are world class trumpets...

My parents bought me a 37 back in 1980 for $463.50 ( I still have the receipt ). Amazing trumpet that I still play.

When I returned to trumpet playing in 1980 I purchased a model 37 and although I now own 6 b flat horns I still favour the Bach horn over others

She sounds great. I have a big sound, and found that the 43 has that extra sizzle that she describes. I felt like the 37 was a little constraining of my sound.

The 37 sounds better in the midrange, but the 43 sounds better, and plays easier, above the staff. The 43 bell has a larger throat.

I've always liked Bach trumpets and cornets. A year ago, I bought a Bach LR180S37, and its sound is the best I've ever got from a trumpet. I also have a CONN 52BSP and it's a terrific trumpet in its own right. I've been playing since 1953 and and I consider myself an OK player, not super talented, but I still love practicing every day.

I owned a silver plated Bach Strad 37* in high school, then sold it a couple years after graduation because I needed to pay rent. I didn't play a note on a trumpet for over 30 years. Recently I bought a used silver plated Bach Strad 43 to play around on. I probably wasn't a good enough player back in high school to tell the difference between a 37 and a 43, and certainly now I wouldn't be able to. I wish I had my original trumpet from HS (serial number 81239... please sell it to me if you have it!), but I'm glad to be playing again (albeit very poorly!)

That 43 sound 😍😍 sounded darker and richer. Good for mariachi. I have to listen to a 73 now. When I was in band my band director told me I had a dark round sound. If only I knew about this info and had a 43 to sound even better. I won two jazz awards with a bach 37 stradivarius that my teacher would let me borrow

  • @jean-pierredevent970

The 43 sounds for me more open, warmer and the 37 sounds a bit constricted in comparison. However the 37 might cut through better in certain conditions. I never played a Bach but sitting next to one, I always thought it had more core and projected better and this was frustrating since I felt overpowered. I played a Yamaha with a Bach 1.5C mpc.
I am curious which harmonics/frequencies are most responsible for carrying power.

I play a lot of standard stuff at church or in an orchestra as well as much big band lead on a basic 37 - 25 Bach. I have 2 - my main horn from the late 90s and another one with a little more hard slot from about 1971. I keep essentially the same horn and just switch mouthpieces. 1 1/2C. 3C. And Reeves 42S or M. I have used a 72 lightweight bell in the past but never found a 43 bell to be as useful for what I do. She should try the 72 and see the difference between the three.
    Nice comparison. 👍

Yeah, I have Manchester Brass RL-GB with a big 72-ish bell. What a sound. But I find that it needs a mouthpiece with a tighter-than-average backbore, to add some resistance.

I generally play a Bach 72 lightweight, with a 43 lead pipe for chamber music or orchestral gigs. However, I play a 72 lightweight large bore, with heavy valve caps for my rock needs. That beast can really sing! That's just what fits for me.

Weird. I use a 37, have since 1998. Tried a 72 last month for the first time, found the sound bigger, darker. Less sizzle, more smooth core in the sound. Felt like I could make the same tone at pp as ff. Liked it on my bach 2 and 1x mouthpieces.

I have a LR180S 37 bell. I can get a variety of very bright sounds depending on the mouthpiece I use. You can either play softly in a brass choir or peel the paint off the walls in a jazz setting. I prefer he Bach Mega tone 1D mouthpiece.
