Norfolk Botanical Gardens! Les Parks - amazing man, so knowledgeable! Very glad you visited & shared this on your channel. I've been a member since childhood; such a great Botanical Garden, educational center & amazing venue for events! Sorry about the rain; visit the Enchanted Forest on your next visit. Come back often; there's so much beauty to enjoy! ❤
Living nearby I can say it really is an amazing place to spend time and there really is something special to see every day of the year. Walking through the paths filled with blooming azaleas is a special kind of mediation. My thanks to every person who has helped to make this place amazing. Glad to see you tour it.
Good morning Jim and Stephanie! 😊 Such a beautiful place to visit! I think that it is wonderful that they have such an amazing children's garden! We need more of that. Thank you for sharing this with us!
I lived in Portsmouth (right next to Norfolk) for 32 years and NEVER visited Norfolk Botanical Garden! Now I live in the western part of the state, and am wishing I could see it! Thanks for the great tour!
INCREDIBLE doesn't even touch on how amazing these gardens are! Omg!!! SOOO glad Steph & Jim were able to visit & share with us!!! Thank you so much Les!! Immediately put this on my bucket-list!!!
Oh so many Crape Myrtles lined up in a row just like Jim likes 😂 The Gathering Place, although not exactly a garden, has boat tours. Technically a park but TONS of plants in Tulsa Oklahoma.
I usually visit that garden in the winter when they decorate it with Christmas lights for the holidays. I had no idea they had a splash pad and children's Gardens.
Thanks for sharing this even in the rain. What a beautifully designed public garden, such thoughtfulness and learning the history of it was inspiring. Definitely would love to visit it.
We visited this garden several years ago. It rained during part of our visit as well! Steph did a great job of capturing the beauty of this garden despite the rain. 😊 You definitely can spend an entire day here and feel like you haven't seen everything! It would be great to see it in all four seasons.
Smart, beautiful garden!!! Thank you for showing this to us Jim, very refreshing and educational tour and explanations. I am pleasantly delighted to see this still exists noways!
Beautiful gardens! I went there once while attending college at Old Dominion University in the 1990s. After seeing this video, I must go see it again. Great video.
I've visited many times. Saw cat whisker plant (orthosiphon stamineus) for the first time which (of course) does not over winter in my NJ garden. A friend brought me a plant from Florida and we would bring it in the house every fall where it would continue to bloom profusely, Alas it grew so big we had to repot it and was too large to bring in. Love Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Miss the eagles.
My porch is mostly shade so I have a Cuphea in a pot, it's nowhere near that size but the hummers hit it all day. Beautiful garden, thanks for sharing!
I have been in awe of this breathtaking garden! I can only imagine how magical it is in person Thank you for sharing & educating us as well. Cheers from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 zone 5b. What a excellent guide, he was great
If you and Stephanie ever come this far west ( Springfield, Mo ) I invite you on behalf of the master gardeners to come tour our Botanical gardens we have a huge botanical garden for the size of our city and our Hosta gardens belong to the American hosta garden society, the hosta is huge and stunning . We have so so many gardens and a beautiful lake with garden beds all around that including a stunning conifer garden. We also have a Japanese garden with a sister city in Japan . Come and visit us in the Ozarks ❤
Thanks, neighbor, for visiting my neck of the woods and highlighting our wonderful Norfolk Botanical gardens! The tour of the Pinkhams garden was great, too.. Their nursery , Smithfield Gardens, was one of the best in the area. Sadly, we have lost so many independent nurseries in Hampton Roads area.
It's clear that you have a fan base here in the Old Dominion!! Norfolk is my parent's old stomping grounds,we were members of NBG and visited in every season. Been to many a weddi g in the beautiful formal garden. My favorite visit was the Chinese lights at night, walking that was magical. I love going in winter, the camellia collection is outstanding and it's never too cold for a walk. It's probably a good thing you went on a rainy day, because the jet noise next door would have driven you nuts😂 Did you find the observation deck on top of the berm?
I’m not easily impressed, but that place is enormous, worth whatever the cost of admission is (like $10-$20 maybe), and mannn, do they have it all. BRING YOUR WALKING SHOES AND DON’T GO IN JULY. Go in the spring/fall. It was like, 94 degrees or something that day. Everything was beautiful. Ive done landscaping forever, and that place was tough for even me to get through. The wife planned a lil anniversary gift/trip for me there, in early July 2023. I saved the Japanese garden for last. We probably spent about 5-6 hours there just trying to walk through every single garden. STILL never even saw the indoor, tropical/desert area. Didn’t even know it was there until watching this video. Probably, my most unexpected and favorite spot was all the HUGE hydrangeas. Like, a whole bunch of 8ftx8ft hydrangeas with blooms that are easily a foot in diameter.
Thanks for introducing us to so many gardens around the country. We are visiting Williamsburg in the fall and have added a visit here to out plans. Gorgeous!
I'm happy to hear that you respect the work done by those ladies and gents 🎉 to you and 🎉🎉 for them
That brought me to tears..

A gem for Tidewater. Come back at Christmas. The gardens are lit.

Great gardens. It’d be wonderful if more cities put real effort into gardens like that.

Thank you for coming out to share the story of the Garden and all of the wonder plants we have on display!
I’m from Virginia but have never visited Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Will definitely add that to my list of day trips!
Check out Louis Gintner near Richmond as well! In my opinion better than Norfolk.
Thank you for the tour of this beautiful botanical garden, inspiring!
I love how they acknowledged the inequality and injustice and did the bast they could to make it right. Beautiful Garden, Beautiful people ❤
And the fact they weren’t welcome in the garden after their hard labor was gut wrenching..

Beautiful and so close to home. I will definitely have to visit soon.... And at some point during every season.
WOW! Just wow!
Really nice tour. Really like awareness of native plants and invasive plants/trees.

The mushroom art is fantastic! I hope they are auctioning it off for fundraising
Wow! ❤
Everyone in rennet has 3 or 4 crape Myrtles in their yard

Ugh why is the canal so green? 🤢
