I was about to buy one last night to go with my AS-1 but then found all these issues including only having 4 bars and other thing’s people were complaining about like not being able to swap out samples the way you can with DJS 1000 and will never be updated which is an instant deal breaker, shows they no longer care about it. I love a good groovebox and knowing it has that legendary Dave Smith filter. What am i missing? Can an Akai Force, MC 707 or Verselab control the AS-1 too?
I'm about to get the AS1 to go with my SP16. I've heard the as1 has bad midi sync issues. Will following the steps in this tutorial bypass those problems?
I have some doubts regarding Pioneer Toraiz SP16. I have been using Akai MPCs for a long time. Currently using Mpc 2500/1000/ Renaissance. My concerns 1) How many samples can I use at a time within a single pattern? ( In MPC, for a pattern we can use 16 x 4=64 samples in A,B,C and D banks normally) 2) How many samples can I layer in a single pad ( In MPC I can stack 4 samples with separate Volume, Pitch and Velocity levels)
The SP-16 is a much faster, more streamlined device than the MPC. It does all the great surface-level stuff, without the deep sound design. This for me is a blessing, as I do all my deep stuff in Ableton Live. The SP-16 is a terrific sample sequencer with intuitive controls and lots of great little surprises under the hood. But it's not an MPC, was never meant to be one.
Thanks for the video, if I want to send my output from the AS-1 back to the inputs on the SP-16 do I then need to use a different track on the SP-16 with the source set to LINE IN?
Yes, you need to use one of the SP-16 tracks as a through in put / Line in. Then provided the output of there AS-1 is running to the Aux input of the SP-16 and the Aux volume on the back of the unit is turned up signal will be received.
I'm struggling to get an answer on the Pioneer DJ forum so I figured I'd ask it here. Does the SP-16 have an arpeggiator or roll function similar to the Tempest's? Can you real-time record midi information into the sequencer using a midi controller?
Hey. The arpeggiator feature is not included in SP-16, I'm afraid. I am not sure what the roll function in the Tempest is really like, but a similar feature, Beat Repeat is included in the SP-16. You will be able to use this feature with the performance Pads and Touch strip. Please see page 15 of the SP-16 manual: goo.gl/k1A5YD
Pioneer DJ Darn, hopefully an arpeggiator can be added in a future OS update. I love being able to set it to random, hold down a few pads and create a pattern between drum sounds or a melodic pattern on a synth or bass sound.

How Can you automate a program change to the As-1 from the sp-16 between patterns? Or can this only be done with scene?

WHY WOULD YOU NOT ALLOW EXTERNAL MIDI KEYBOARDS??? ARRGHHHH
Can this also be done with a djs 1000?
yes
First to comment. Rapture. We are neon shadows. Gang gang.
