I love Ableton being so transparent and listening to the community for ideas, suggestions and also explaining the thought process behind the design decisions. This is how you make great products and also build community and healthy user base. Love this new direction.
I have little to no musical talent. The Move has helped me discover a world I thought was out of reach. Thank you for this great product and for keeping it simple.
Maximum respect for this. It’s really interesting to see how you created Move and I really appreciate your honesty about being a small team that can’t do everything (and also that some things users want may be more complicated than people think).
Move is awesome & your openness to listen and discuss users' questions, ideas and requests is admirable!!! I'm sad to hear Wavetable import will not happen after all, but I'm happy to hear new FX and instruments might! I wish the core Live team was similarly willing to interact with the users as you guys are. Official Discord is a great first step, though! Thank you guys 👍❤
The way Johannes said it, it leaves open the possibility of a patch-compatible "Wavetable Mini" coming to a future version of Live. Total speculation on my part, but I would guess that the sound designers for Move used an internal, cut-down version of Wavetable for patch creation, and that a polished version of that device might yet see the light of day.
Very cool idea. Maybe koala could be good for that? Biggest downside is you could only run the master through effects, but it could be cool for quick jams.
As an executive who leads product management, your comms here are fantastic! Way to explain operation cycles in a digestible manner that also enables your team to focus on the value where you see it!
We need a way to compile our Max for Live devices for Move. If you find a way to implement this feature, move will instantly be the most advanced and open synth in the market.
keep up the great work. please do not be discouraged by the negative feedback that was completely blown out of proportion. i like mine and a lot of people do. yes, there is some stuff, that i would prefer to be different. but that feature might be great for someone else. it is already great, for what it is intended to be. if you keep on updating it, this is truly a dream come true. my personal feedback: i would like the quantize feature to apply only on a certain pad in drum rack, not the whole midi file. i would also like to use the effects live on monitored audio signals. some more features like reverse playback and better length control for samples would also be awesome. the auto filter effect would also be great to have as a global effect on the move. easy access to parameter locks per midi clip would also be very helpful. also, let us make the pad lights even lower (the lowest setting is still blinding me in a low lit room). i would also like simple warping, but i understand if that is too much for the cpu. besides this, i really cannot think of anything. these are small things i could do without but it is my personal wishlist. to break the internet culture, i will also give positive feedback: it is super mobile and the battery is great. it has great speakers for such a small device. they even have some bass punch. resampling is powerful and easy. the mic is decent and brings a lot of fun. the presets are all incredible. the device just looks awesome and it is quite easy to figure out. i love the per step parameter locks. the pads feel great and are quite sensitive. the touch encoders are great. the sequencer is easy to use and has quite a lot of useful features for modifying existing clips. keep up the good work and spirit!
two more things, i was missing in the original post: Frist, a positive thing: midi capture. i use it exclusively to record midi. it is truly amazing. and the other improvement i wish for are performance features on the step buttons in session view. right now, they do nothing except the shift functions. there could be beat repeats, parameter locks, a solo button, it could toggle on a mode that gives you access to 8 assignable parameters from any instrument or effect on the encoders without leaving session view.
Ahhh, How refreshing is to still see companies caring about their user base. Thanks for pointing out the Trap snare roll and hi hats thing. I accidentally discovered that a few days ago. I love my Move 😎. Now, I get to have fun during my boring lunch break.
This is a seriously cool device. I’m loving that I can start my ideas without being in front of a computer screen. 4 tracks is plenty for the intended use and it’s perfect. ❤ Excited to see future developments.
Excited for the future of the Move. It's not at a point where I'm ready to get one because it wouldn't replace my SP-404MKII or MPC One, but I'll definitely be watching it for the feature updates.
Since drum tracks have 16 notes of polyphony, you could add shared polyphony like the Digitone has. This would allow us to play chords, sequence a simple drum part, and a monophonic bass, all within the same track-freeing the other three tracks to add pads, samples, and melodies.
Heyo, love the Move, can you please please implement an ultra low brightness setting? I travel a fair bit on aeroplanes and I was banking on the Move to replace my laptop for making music. The brightness from the LED’s at their current lower setting are still too bright and I’ve been asked many times to turn it off as the lights disturb other passengers.
Hi there! The best way to get your feature requests heard is to submit them on our Discord server - or to upvote what’s already requested there. Click here: brnw.ch/21wOQEd. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Thank you very much for the insights and thank you for being open on what will be possible and what not. I love the Move already and I am looking forward to what's to come 😍
Even if you don't provide the ability to transfer custom wavetable presets to Ableton Move in the future, are there plans to increase the number of parameters from 8 to 16 by combining them with shift? I might have missed it, but as it stands, one instrument doesn't seem enough for sound design. Even if only 16 parameters can be used with Drift, that would be fine.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of getting hung up on specs. Ultimately all this does is stop you from making music. YOU are imposing the limits by not adapting to the constraints. You can make a beat with a pan and a spoon so you’ll be fine with 4 Polyphonic synth engines. I too had doubts but reserved judgement for after I had one in hand. And guess what? It’s wonderful. So immediate and fun. I hope you feel the same.
@Ableton I appreciate the transparency. It sounds like you've prioritized stability and speed of the unit and I applaud that!. I'm really hoping that Move can become a part of my live set, so reliability and perfect timing are table stakes. Love the form factor and I look forward to the updates. (+1 for multi-channel midi in and out!)
I think the Move is a nice balance, obviously it could do with refinement. I'd like to see a new 16 track MIDI mode. So it splits each track into 4 MIDI tracks, represented as the 4 tracks. This mode would give a total of 16 MIDI tracks to edit, but would launch MIDI clips in banks of 4. Useful mode for hardware setups needing a sequencer.
Thanks for this explanation! I am very happy to hear there is a dedicated USB controller regarding future MIDI implementation. I love the Move as a standalone, but being able to bring it back to my hardware rig and integrate, would mean I can *keep* using the Move, all the way to full performance. (Saving having to re-make everything outside the Move)
This is exactly what I’m waiting for. For me, Note does everything the Move can do. (I know it’s capable of more, but not enough to justify the price). If I can add my hardware synths, this will be an instant buy for me.
Respect to Ableton on being this transparent with their customers. I did have the Move but returned it. I just found the 4 track limit was reached very quickly and wasn’t enough meat to send into live. Yeah there are workarounds but they are just covering up the fact that it should be 8 tracks like note. The controller mode was also lacking. It’s a great machine with a lot of potential. Love the preset browsing - something that should be in live as it would make me use the native plug ins more. A lot to like here but let down by an older processor limiting its potential.
As a producer who has released music that was done solely on a mobile device (iPhone and a few Androids). I think one of the quickest ways to expand Move's standalone mode is adding the ability to export the 4 stems out of Move Manager for use in DAWs outside of Live. And/or integrate the .DAWproject format, but that's not even integrated into Live yet. And let the elf.audio team integrate Move functionality into Koala Sampler, since the Ableton team already seems to be fond of them (it's an app that can export Drum Racks that Move can read.) Just a few feature requests of mine
Does it work as a midi controller for music production on Ableton Live, e.g. lock to scale note mode for melodies, and drum rack, with some features as quantize lock and session view controller, record etc like Launchpads do? Thanks in advance for any replies.
I was a midi usser in the earliest days so my music has evolved from minimal restrictions and bouncing down tracks, so I will use resampling and the drum rack facilities to maximise the 4 track potential. As several prominent UA-camrs point out, it's a sketchpad and as such anstarting point. As well as Ableton, I am a Maschine user and I love both systems. I tried taking Maschine + on holiday a couple of times but good though it is as a standalone, I found the travel stressful, showing it at security, worryinh about damage and it took up too much baggage weight. Move is no more worry in that respect than my Lenovo tablet. I am looking forward to small live/ jam set ups with huge sound pairing Move and Maschine + with an outboard midi instrument with huge sound from ultra compact systems. I tend to stick with a set up from the outset, finding a constant barrage of new features a distraction and breaking my flow with new things to try when the scope here is alread pretty mind blowing frankly😅
Thank you for answering the feature requests. It would be awesome if you could implement routing Fx to the audio in, because your effects are high quality and using the move with a synth is just great. I think people already mentioned it but midi in and out at the same time to play a synth and sequence it from the move simultaneously would be a feature that would be great. Also :is it possible to expand the usb port with a hub to control more than one synth? I've ordered a move because I really like the sound and ease of use. Best regards Dennis
Really Wish Timestretching / Warp gets added - Will make using loops of different tempos much easier..Also, wasn’t Warp the defining feature of Ableton back in the day?
I assume warp is too demanding, imagine warping 64 samples for realtime playback :( i would appreciate a warp and loop modes on the melodic sampler though, that should be possible.
@@ChemistryLemurif cpu is an issue, maybe there could be a way to bounce/freeze a loop out to the correct tempo? That’d be kool, & hopefully would allow for 64track playback.. Also, they could call this feature “Warp Out” or something 🚀🔊
I love the device- as someone looking to escape the laptop by the end of the day but Im pretty fluent in Ableton philosophy, its so quick to dial in ideas and get weird with it. My kids have really shown an interest so its a great win
I think streamlining the back and forth nature between ableton and move so that we can make our own synth presets with user defined macros is a must. Other than that, simple filter with selectable filter types as an effect for samplesz per sample and instruments as a send. Im suprised it wasnt already included to be honest. And some simpler versions of target sidechain or auto ducking. Ive managed to find work arounds with compressor I am super happy with my Move, its already way better
would love to see the ability to record arrangements in transfer them into ableton! don't need to be able to edit/access them in move but to be able to record a multi-track performance and load that into abletons arrangement view would be a game changer
Please give it a better MIDI implementation. in and out at the same time and a midi channel for each track. and it possible extra 4 MIDI only tracks. I want to use it with my other expanders and it is really a pain. Keep up the great job folks!!!

I loooove your way of communication. Hopefully we'll see more cool features in the move later! I also think you guys should highlight more how powerful melodic steps in the sampler are, Move has much MUCH more tracks than four, actually. People are scared from the product because of 4-track mention.
Nice! As a push 3 standalone owner, will we get Move functionality on the push? 16 pitch mode on the drum rack and capture capabilities updated to the same as move?
Not sure about 16 pitches, but you should be able to do the capture feature on your push 3. On the push 2 you press and hold record then the New button for the capture feature.
Hi there! We tried to address this in the first video sequence about Feature Wishes for Move! Feel free to join our community on Discord to keep the conversation going, discuss and request new features, and more: discord.gg/ableton. Thanks!
Why Move have 32 set limit ? In Note, I sometimes create 10-15 sets daily; I have over 450 on my iPhone, and sometimes I listen to older ones, make copies, and expand them in different ways. I just click ‘New’ and keep going. But in Move...srsly guys ? it feels like a very bad joke to me. I don't ask for new feature, I just ask to remove that limit so I can fill even all available memory with sets.
Currently, I see velocity can be adjusted as a source for volume and several other targets for the Drum Racks. I don’t see similar options via Move for Drift and Wavetable. And I don’t see any options via Move for assigning Aftertouch to volume or other targets. Am I just missing it? Obviously, the expressive pads are so central to the Move design. Would be great to be able to engage them in the box to really maximize the on-the-go expressive potential. Thanks for any feedback and for putting together this video!
... let us have more control over the 4 minute sample time i.e play a sample longer than 60 seconds... also.. let us be able to work between Note - Move and Live and back (while working within a Move 4 track template) I can't create on Note or Move then tweak a filter or add midi to a clip to the project on Live and then pick it back up when mobile.
I absolutely love this video and how you develop your products in an iterative an agile way, and the openness about it. I think being in contact with and open to customer feedback is key to success. I imagine you having a great team culture and spirit. Are you actually looking for people to support your team in Germany? I am a very experienced agile coach and former software developer, love electronics, hardware development and music (I also have Live, Push 3 standalone and Move next to many other synths and sequencers) and did work with Freyr Gudmundsson on agile transformations in the past.
Hi there! Thank you for your message and interest in working with us. The best way to get in touch with our recruiting team and to get more information on open positions at Ableton is via this page: bit.ly/2DPHeYx We hope you understand that we currently don't accept any speculative applications and only offer positions listed on this page.
Thanks for this open and honest video. Unfortunately the now definitive 4 tracks limit may be a deal breaker for me as I would have used Move to sketch songs on my 3 hours train commute with fundamentals (drums bass chords melody) and further arrangements (the 4 missing extra tracks). Then use all midi tracks in Live to control my hardware synths and plugins at home. Too bad as I can't see any other autonomous device with that easy UI and backpack readiness.
Hi, thanks for getting in touch. We hope you understand that we can’t comment on upcoming sales campaigns. However, we recommend subscribing to our newsletter to be the first to know of any potential future sales here: bit.ly/2zWvIbR. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. Can you clarify if Move can control Push in the current firmware or it requires some beta firmware? The current FAQ says that it's not possible.
would be nice to show some love for push 3 and also do a video about the future of development there. i think the 16 pads pitch mode should come push 3.
probably in the minority but I'd totally buy this only as a live controller (if it was priced just as a live controller that is). although it doesn't seem you can navigate through banks of plugin parameters for now. kind of crazy there's no third party option in this small format; only maybe novation has something similar with their lateste launchkey mk4 but it has a keyboard. push 2 is too massive; I want something small to put next to the computer keyboard (and still use keyboard and mouse). Move is the perfect size.
would love this too! found a workaround tho: with plugins go to "configure" mode, choose the 8 most important knobs within and then save the device as standard (right click on device name). Then the controls are kinda chosen within ableton itself and move will allow you to control these
@@poldytheking1 yes I love this feature and use it all the time but that doesn't give you access to more than 8 still (I created a remote script for my Keystep 37 and it will automap the 4 knobs plus a second bank of knobs, really handy); and it won't work with ableton native devices which don't have a way of changing how they're assigned
so sad no wavetable preset importing but I'm super excited to see what other instruments are added, please at least expand the preset importing as much as possible

Please add usb class complient audio feature. People want to share their performance livestreams on social media such as instagram or UA-cam. With this update we can use just one single cable usb-a (move) to usb-c (phone) and start livestream on instagram or record a video. And second important wish is using type c port as a midi out. Because when I want to use usb a port for midi keyboard there is no chance to send midi to any synthesizer. Thank you for great idea generation machine 🎉

Can you implement a simple way to save drum kits on the MOVE?
Lovely stuff. Much appreciated!
Ive managed to find work arounds with compressor
I am super happy with my Move, its already way better
would love to see the ability to record arrangements in transfer them into ableton! don't need to be able to edit/access them in move but to be able to record a multi-track performance and load that into abletons arrangement view would be a game changer
Please give it a better MIDI implementation. in and out at the same time and a midi channel for each track. and it possible extra 4 MIDI only tracks. I want to use it with my other expanders and it is really a pain. Keep up the great job folks!!!
Hi there! The best way to get your feature requests heard is to submit them on our Discord server - or to upvote what’s already requested there. Click here: brnw.ch/21wOQEd. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Fantastic video and approach. Thanks, Ableton!
P. S I've never wanted more than 4 tracks on move
if it ever becomes an MPE midi controller over USB i'll definitely buy one.
Thanks for all these explanations. Can anyone tell me which discord server we're talking about? Thank you!
Here you go: discord.gg/ableton
So cool ❤Got the Move to compliment my Push 3 and my G its fun y’all
I was seriously debating a return, but this video has averted that.
Good Comms
Guys can you find a way to apply the groove value to note repeat? Exactly like MPCs do?
Thanks! But please usb/audio to phone
Wait, i thought this would work as an audio interface for ios, no?
Just got mine this week. It needs a few quirks to be ironed out but it's amazing so far. I'll accept any additional features with open arms lol
What about the very first and on insta super high rated question about the chord mode?
Hi there! We tried to address this in the first video sequence about Feature Wishes for Move! Feel free to join our community on Discord to keep the conversation going, discuss and request new features, and more: discord.gg/ableton. Thanks!
@ got it, thank you so much. love this great little box. even without chord mode :)
Quite fundamental questions and in the end "how to note repeat??" 😅
My question -> when an update for APC 40 mkII ?
Apc40 mk2 has a big fader problem, when you force them to 0 dbs you get some dynamics lost, no one talking about this
Currently, I see velocity can be adjusted as a source for volume and several other targets for the Drum Racks.
What about parameters modulation? Does Move have LFO's? Can they be routed to samples parameters such as Start, End or Length, Loop point?
I absolutely love this video and how you develop your products in an iterative an agile way, and the openness about it. I think being in contact with and open to customer feedback is key to success. I imagine you having a great team culture and spirit. Are you actually looking for people to support your team in Germany? I am a very experienced agile coach and former software developer, love electronics, hardware development and music (I also have Live, Push 3 standalone and Move next to many other synths and sequencers) and did work with Freyr Gudmundsson on agile transformations in the past.
Hi there! Thank you for your message and interest in working with us. The best way to get in touch with our recruiting team and to get more information on open positions at Ableton is via this page: bit.ly/2DPHeYx
We hope you understand that we currently don't accept any speculative applications and only offer positions listed on this page.
There are really impressive innovations like Capture, but simple things like panning a synth track don't exist. Looking fwd to the updates!
Very nice video but will there be a Black Friday Ableton sale please?
Hi, thanks for getting in touch. We hope you understand that we can’t comment on upcoming sales campaigns. However, we recommend subscribing to our newsletter to be the first to know of any potential future sales here: bit.ly/2zWvIbR. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. Can you clarify if Move can control Push in the current firmware or it requires some beta firmware? The current FAQ says that it's not possible.
I have Push 3SA and Move can control it, i needed to buy a usb A to C cable to get it to work though and you have to put Move into control live mode
@lostreligion1313 cool, thanks for sharing. Ordered move as well.
Confirmed that it works with existing prod software
More Arp modes would be nice
such a pitty there are no audio tracks. i almost got interested.
Audio tracks would be great to add instrument/vocals etc.
where has the move-feature-wishlist gone on the discord server. i dont find it. edit: found it. it was not visible.
would be nice to show some love for push 3 and also do a video about the future of development there. i think the 16 pads pitch mode should come push 3.
AUDIO TRACKS are needed for serious mobile recording! (Even if they aren't time-stretchable on this hardware)
MIDI Clock out/in plz
What model is the white MIDI keyboard being used in this video? Thanks
probably in the minority but I'd totally buy this only as a live controller (if it was priced just as a live controller that is). although it doesn't seem you can navigate through banks of plugin parameters for now. kind of crazy there's no third party option in this small format; only maybe novation has something similar with their lateste launchkey mk4 but it has a keyboard. push 2 is too massive; I want something small to put next to the computer keyboard (and still use keyboard and mouse).
When is MOVE 2 going to be released?
Nice video look forward to more like this
Does the "use Move as a controller for Push" function also work with the Push 2?
so sad no wavetable preset importing but I'm super excited to see what other instruments are added, please at least expand the preset importing as much as possible
Does this have Sample STEM Separation ??
no it doesn't
@ **Noted. Thanks
Is it likely we'll see a switch to 24bit internal processing?!
hi own ableton 11, but i need ableton 10 for a project. took al steps suggested on your website and reddit, still cant activate live10. ableton support doesnt react. i asked chatGTP for a solution, and it suggests to use a crack. so what ya think?
Hi there. Please let us know the email address of your Ableton.com User Account via email in the following link, so we can take a closer look at this. We're looking forward to hearing from you! brnw.ch/21wOUf3
Hey can you do a video on ableton move quantization even at 100% it sounds off and groove if you can..please and thank you💯
