It can be easy for the trash to pile up and when you're unwilling or physically unable or to mop up the mess, that pile of personal effects quickly turns from your personal paradise to a putrid purgatory. For one poor elderly couple in Newcastle, their home has gotten severely out of hand and now resembles a house of horrors.
Fleas, faeces, fag ends and a room full of terrifying disease riddled teddy bears is what awaits this clean-up crew in today’s toy filled task. A nasty nine-to-five by awaits with some creepy cuddly toys for good measure.

@@LeviJamesRE you do realise that if they are elderly then they probably have had a lot of things and clutter build up from down the years. plus, believe it or not but people deliver these days so if they do have poor mobility they don't need to go out to get food in etc. These people were very clearly ill whether mentally, physically or both so try not to be so ignorant and uncompassionate because you don't get THAT level of filth from simply being lazy.
You'd be surprised how many elderly live like this. I have seen a lot as a nurse.

This makes me so sad. My uncle just passed away, and the last few years of his live we tried getting him help - we suspected Alzheimer’s, but he refused all help. He wouldn’t let his family inside his house (which he owned). We would always call to check on him, one day he did not answer, we broke a window in his front door to get in. His house was a mess, unsafe, very much like this house. Also signs of small kitchen fires, he forgot he put something on the stove etc. He was very angry that we found him (he had fallen down the stairs and broken his hip), never forgave us that we got him the help he needed, it was very hard... He was never like this before, it really was the Alzheimer’s taking over more and more.
Sorry to hear that. Alzheimer is one of the cruelest and terrifying diseases who can affect the human brain. A real curse, for the one who got it and for his/her beloveds close to him/her.

@@wizardoforuz7584 I use basic r-95 masks for chemical and bio clean up, and it makes the difference. Besides, you really don't want to inhale those physical spores, that's more unhealthy

Folks...1) they said it was elderly couple who were moved out. They obviously could no longer take care of themselves. You better hope you never get that way. 2) maybe they don’t have family/friends. It happens!

Just as I thought...it's not theirs...it's free or almost free...so make a mess... destroy...I am happy though that they don't get to move into a new place...think about this mess in another environment...
@@paulacrichlow2095 Damn so it's just like section 8 housing in America. My neighbor rented two houses out to section 8 and within a month they completely destroyed the houses, he had to fight court battles for years because he had to demolish the houses and wanted all money he lost

Elderly couple, perhaps they have mobility issues and incontinence issues, which meant they were unable to get to the bathroom in time and unable to clean themselves or their surroundings.
Dementia patients often smear feces. Or, they had prob getting to toilet in time as incontinent.
Didn’t watch the whole thing, but often when there is a plumbing problem people with severe hoards are too embarrassed, too mentally incapacitated, etc.to have someone in to fix it.
Same here. Must be a mental health issue. When my father was ill thankfully not for long before he died with dementia he became double incontinent and had nappies but he had a team of 10 different people who came to the house 2 at a time day and night. He spent the incredible amount of UK £130,000 on that care in his last year alone!!! He did just after his life savings were exhausted. it felt a bit unfair he could work as a doctor for our NHS for 50 years and still have to pay all that for good care at home. Despite that he was able to die in h is own house with very very good care and a very good clean environment so I suppose it was worth it and he could die literally in his own house. It was clean.

And THIS is why inspections, especially of the elderly and disabled, is paramount. It should be once a month. It’s a pain, yes, but it may be kept on top of.... 🤷🏻♀️
Wow, this programme is addictive. It did make me sad that the man in Newcastle (where I am from) says he is seeing so much more of this kind of thing. Are people really getting worse? May be it is because we have more older people who cannot cope but the teddies suggested they had enough money to buy new things so I am not convinced they are old.
I am so glad they took the decision to throw stuff out as the owners would never have been able to decide what to keep and what to throw away and even if they love the teddy bears - so what - they have left their house a danger to their neighbours so it is best to get it out and they can buy a new teddy - one a year only from now on.
So they collected bears and toiletpaper...

They need to renovate the entire place before allowing someone else to move in!
If that deep clean didn’t involve ripping out all drywall (ceiling included) and taking up all flooring down to the cement then this was an inadequate deep clean. They’re probably going to get the walls as clean as they can then paint or wallpaper over them, the new tenants won’t be aware their walls have poop residue on them. Gross!

This was also my mom's problem. When I found out I took two workers and went to clean up her house. Then I kept her to stay with me and my family, happily ever after... She lived to be 92 years old! My mother's place is so neat and tidy, its almost spotless, she has always been tidy. I can be messy at times but nothing like this at all. I mean i may not vacuum for like 4 weeks but dont wear shoes inside or let anyone in with them on either.

Lyndsey Roach 79' I have a friend who’s a chain smoker , her home is yellow and it stinks, but she can’t see it. She smells so bad a friend of mine refused to have her in her car again. She’s on benefits but still finds the money for her addiction then complains she’s no money. I haven’t visited for months. To be honest her attitude and constant denial about all her problems gets me down. Well done on giving up. I know people that do give up say there sense of smell comes back

I've become a bit more OCD since watching this show. I have to make sure my clothes are folded, my counters and tables wiped, and my floors vacuumed! Which may be a good thing because I'm naturally slobbish!

This makes me sad, the elderly are so vulnerable to living like this. My nan over lockdown was on her way to living like this, rubbish bags, hoarding (life long problem), rotten food etc, thankfully my mum and I have gotten her help, and since then discovered she has moderate Alzheimers disease. When the elderly and mentally/physically ill have no one looking out for them, they end up like this.

Our cat had fleas a few years ago. It was an absolute nightmare. They were everywhere. In our bed, my son's bed, the sofa, bathroom. EVERYWHERE! it was so bad we had to call an exterminator and pay over 700 euros. Before that we spent about 500 Euro in pet shops buying flea spray and flea bombs. Nothing worked.

People say landlords should check on their properties more often so as to avoid this kind of stuff, but if landlords did exactly that, people would accuse them of being nosy and overprotective. People just want to blame anyone but the tenants. The tenants caused this mess, not the landlord, nor the government, nor their families. Blame the people responsible for it.
