"The Steyr MG springs are now sold as the “Red Spring” kit, it wasn’t available when we filmed, but is now. I have been teaching to NEVER slam the butt of the AUG of the ground to clear malfunctions that barrel release doesn’t fix. The trick is to just hit the receiver pin and pull the barrel and receiver off the stock to expose the jam or whatever like opening a FS2000. The AUG will always be the OG but I would prefer to see them try (for real, not like they have) to update it a la X95 or DesertTech with modern ergonomics, better factory trigger, etc. seems they could have a gas plug from the factory with more options that can be adjusted with brass rather than having to remove the rear pin to do it. Still an awesome rifle, just aging vs its competitors. Also for being around so long, how is the price still so high?

I run a surfire rc2 can on my aug and with the supressor plug you still get alot of gas right back into your face and eyes, not bad for single slow shots but if you wanna run quick shots it gets rough
I'd say even more reliable then AK. Because the quality brass ammo u can have for it. Compared to the com bloc steel case wich would be the only failure in AK rifle anyway. But ya
One thing that I always notice is when people grab the charging handle with their index finger like on an AR, with the angle the handle sits at however, it's much more comfortable to grab with pinky and ring finger. That way it's also a lot easier to get it locked back since your fingers don't get in the way as much and you don't need to twist your hand when grabbing it, it's basically the same hand position going from the front grip.
d60 mags,1.5x scope and bipod will make this gun pretty much perfect all rounder, replacing dmr, lmg and assaulter guns in one simple package. It's a very good rifle when you really look the wider picture.
To use the stock pin to adjust the gas plug was even new to me. We use the Glock field knife for that in the army. The back of the knife fits prefectly between those fins of the plug.
So this actually didn't mention the coolest thing about the AUG, also relating to the gas plug, and that is that the trigger linkage end has a built in punch to remove your plug piston from the housing, no external tools needed. It's a really well thought out gun, and I've had much fun using it, both at steyr academy and general shooting
@danielmckraken5160 this sounds like you have never really used an AUG. How are you managing to burn your hands on the gas port? It's in front of the rail. Brass deflector really isn't needed unless you're shooting offhand, trigger is fine for a military trigger, and the 20/20 sear makes it even approach what I'd call crisp. I'm not even sure what to say about the fitment, if it doesn't fit you, don't buy it? I have never actually seen a person who couldn't make the AUG work for their size. Brass ejects at about the 4 oclock postion and the port is at your cheek, so you must have some real weird nostrils.
@danielmckraken5160 And americans always think conscripts are dumb... In all the years we have that thing as our issue rifle, i haven't heard anyone to burn their hands at the gasport apart from one guy who thought it to be a good idea to disassemble the gas system right after shooting. That's the same kind of guy who would try to touch the bolt on your AR after firing two mags fast. ->No andjustable stock, No idea how often you change in size... We have that thing as our issued rifle for 47 years now. I have seen women who's head ended below my shoulder and guys where my head ended at their shoulder use it without needing an adjustable stock. (Our conscripts aren't limited to one size, and the voluntary women neither) ->"horrible trigger". Given i haven't handled the semi autos you guys get. Our trigger wasn't a problem for anyone. And if it's the only gun you ever fired, that's how a trigger is for you. None of us conscripts had any problem using that trigger. So if you have such a problem with it, maybe your training is lacking? ->No brass deflector... So? Never needed one during service. ->Oversized trigger guard: That is absolutely great. We have cold winters in our mountains, and the AUG is designed so you can use it with mittens. Been there, done that. (and despite the guy in the video thinking you need a bigger mag release, i can assure you, when the whole rifle is frozen over, and you won't be able to push the tiny little mag release on your AR, you can still push the mag release on the AUG. Garandthumb even has a video showing that i think) ->ejection port belches brass and gas up your nostrils. You sure you know how to use the rifle? ;-) If you are a lefty, get yourself the lefty conversion kit.
@jackcoakley2848 can't say I've ever seen a stock crack. Must be some dodgy US made thing because the only thing I've ever seen break/bend on a AUG/F88 was a barrel bending slightly when a 100kg shaved ape on my infantry course jumped off a high obstacle with the rifle slung and the muzzle somehow got caught on the top of the obstacle. How the force of the abrupt halt half way down the obstacle didn't rip one of the sling swivels off instead still has me totally mystified. And I saw a magazine break when a bloke went arse over tit onto rocks half way up a mountain. But a AR mag would bent in half, so that's no biggy
It's nice to see some AUG content, but it also makes me wonder...if Steyr has any interest in continuing the product line, are they considering any of this aftermarket stuff to go into the next "version"? I'm always slightly baffled when any firearm gains several "must have" upgrades...and they're not considered by the factory when 90% of the civilian owned guns end up with them, etc. I know Steyr is doing AR variants in Europe, etc. so the development of the AUG may be dead (from a Steyr/factory standpoint).
Very cool. It would be nice if Steyr saw this and made the suppressor plug the default or in any sort of quantity. Its been my major hang up on grabbing one.
I did. This affected just 1 in 1,000 of the most recent batch of stocks. Steyr will replace them and they have destroyed the entire batch of stocks as a result, even though it only impacted 0.1% of them.
@@tfbtv if it’s only 0.1% of a specific batch of stocks then r/aug must be using their stocks as sledgehammers or chewing on them cause theres a huge volume of cracks showing up on there. It’s Reddit so I don’t put it past them but still…

So, the stock pin pulls for disassembly, pushes in for cubby access, and is a sling mount? What is its retention? How is it not constantly falling apart when a sling is stressing it?
If you look at the pin, it has two areas where it's turned down thinner. Holding it in is the triggerpack. There's a recessed area as big as a finger pring in the backplate, and when you press there, you press against a springloaded part of the triggerpack that then allows the thicker sections of the pin (that goes through the triggerpack) to be pushed or pulled. If not it rests on the thinner section locking it side to side. The backplate has holes in the ears that go into the stock, but these ears have openings in the front that are as big as the thinner sections of the stock pin. So when you push the stock pin in (which only works while you push on the recessed "thumbpushbutton") you move it in just so much that the tinner sections of the pin line up with the openings in the ears. The triggerpack can't move from side to side, so when the "thumbpushbutton" isn't pushed, you can't pul the stockpin out. Hope that makes somewhat sense.

Didn't know the first fact, but why would you need that? It's easy to change the pressure by hand, no tool required. Also, you really only use that when changing your ammo (training vs. real ammo).
in the original AUG they came with the cleaning kit in the stock...not any more...they want more money for the kit,if they are in stock---ask me how I know.
Can’t stand Bryan every time he talks about the features of the aug he makes me want one. The set up he has in this video looks great. He would like to know what his thoughts on a good light and sling are. The aug appears to be a well thought of and excellent firearm
With slings, it depends. You can run the factory sling with a QD at one end and add a QD socket to the takedown pin or top rail and have a simple 2 pt sling that works just fine. I've been using Magpul QS3 with qd swivels and similar socket set up because it's easy to remove and swap from gun to gun.

I had no idea you can take the butt plate off and leave the pin in! Also i had NO idea about the storage space back there i know where im going to keep my emergency bacon now!

I’ve answered this question like four times in the comments below, sorry, one thing that super annoying about being on UA-cam is that I get asked the same question over and over again because no one checks the comments.
@@tfbtv, I understand. From the otherside, as a viewer moving through the videos, it can be troublesome to find the right comments with the answers, especially when the stack gets thick. Aside from wondering what the deal is with the AUG, I also posted the comment because it helps engagement for your channel. I appreciate your response.
I'm impressed! The AUG seems much more ingenious than I thought! I wonder how the world was if Stoner came up with this design and it was adopted instead of the AR-15 platform. Everybody would be an AUG-fan..
The stock pin stuff doesn't seem terribly useful, honestly. You take it to adjust the gas block, now you have to hold all the guts into the stock while trying to change gas settings. Awkward as hell. Then you push it in and the buttplate comes off? Seems like it doesn't take much to bump that in and lose the buttplate and the junk it was holding in. 🤷♂
Any chance Steyr could import the Kawatec QD pin? Replaces the pin holding the foregrip and gives you a QD socket out of the way of the charging handle. Another fun little thing to note, the trigger shoe on the AUG is designed so that if your trigger return spring fails for some reason, you can manually push the trigger forward and continue shooting. Has Steyr made any official statements regarding the recent issue of cracking stocks? It's the only thing keeping folks from getting into the AUG while it's available so cheap.
Another trick - if you unscrew the end of the silver tube in the BCG and you are not careful, the 2 springs and the steel pole will damage the plaster in your ceiling. Trust me, I am a practitioner in this field.
I would think a big question some folks would like answered would be is there a solution for the cracking stocks on guns made in the last couple years? Tons of posts about it lately with some folks even having multiple replacement stocks cracking within a few hundred rounds.
Yeah , so the way I and others fixed the issue of riding the charging handle forward , and slowing down the spring driving the carrier group forward is , pull back the charging handle with the fingers open palm close to reciever body , and once fully to the resr slide hand straight off to side , then there is NO way of your hand getting in the way .

I thought that too, but at least on the aug you can do it with the safety on
@@ReverendMeat51 Good point!
This has been so helpful, thanks
6th thing about the Steyr AUG people don’t know about is Steyr not addressing cracked stocks appropriately …
I had no idea you can take the butt plate off and leave the pin in! Also i had NO idea about the storage space back there i know where im going to keep my emergency bacon now!
You need to get onto Lithgow arms F90. A very much improved version. Lighter. With a fixed barrel and more accurate.
James wish i knew you where in CMP Talladega, Al would have taken you to Ricks Crossroads in Lincoln for lunch! 😊
That is our official class dinner spot of the Steyr Academy.
I want to know how he got his manticore arms charging handle to not wobble, as his appears to not.
James Reeves is Gun Daddy.❤
Half of these were mentioned in the last AUG video. James is really just pulling any excuse he can to mention a gun thatll never be mainstream.
I heard any mods to the trigger including the 2020 sear affects the drop safety??
fucking awesome video
Mmm...The only Bullpup that get's my respect.
If you would have told me I would want one after watching this I would have told you no way in hell!
thats really cool
Do the Steyr MF pistol, you might like it better than that other pistol from Austria.
You can adjust the gas plug with your fingers, why remove your sling swivel
Yes, but when its smoking hot or gets carboned up, the pin helps.
I love the AUG!!! I just can't afford one.
Would love to go to this CMP Steyr Academy and train there. Brian seems like one of the coolest instructors. Always great seeing Steyr info.
Du-rag ? Yeah.... I hope you washed your hands.....
That was cool!
What about "crackgate" with AUG's? I heard they said they fixed it. But now, brand new AUG's are still cracking in half after 3k rounds or less. I want an AUG, but can't buy one until we know without a doubt that this is no longer a problem.
I’ve answered this question like four times in the comments below, sorry, one thing that super annoying about being on UA-cam is that I get asked the same question over and over again because no one checks the comments.
Ty
Someone just got a replacement stock from Steyr and that also cracked. It’s not a viable defensive platform at this point in time.
Can we just buy a decked out one from you? Sorry if I missed it
I'll be signing up as soon as I can track down an A3 M2

I'm impressed! The AUG seems much more ingenious than I thought!
I wonder how the world was if Stoner came up with this design and it was adopted instead of the AR-15 platform. Everybody would be an AUG-fan..
The Atrax situation put me off of AUGs.
Top 5 guns of Trailer Park Boys please?
The stock pin stuff doesn't seem terribly useful, honestly. You take it to adjust the gas block, now you have to hold all the guts into the stock while trying to change gas settings. Awkward as hell. Then you push it in and the buttplate comes off? Seems like it doesn't take much to bump that in and lose the buttplate and the junk it was holding in. 🤷♂
It locks in. You have to push a button on the back to move the pin. It will not pop off.
Oh thank God its James
Same.
Almost didn't click the video, because I thought, "Alright, here we go. Hop shittin' all over the AUG for 8 minutes straight."
Where is Brandon??-- He's so dreamy !
I just put a can on mine and holly hell was that muzzle device a pain in the rear to remove
Australian military use the AUG.
I love it when manufacturers are thorough and design with this level of intent and thought. So cool! The AUG is still my favorite bullpup.
From where come out that little fly/bee drone?
Another trick - if you unscrew the end of the silver tube in the BCG and you are not careful, the 2 springs and the steel pole will damage the plaster in your ceiling. Trust me, I am a practitioner in this field.
I would think a big question some folks would like answered would be is there a solution for the cracking stocks on guns made in the last couple years? Tons of posts about it lately with some folks even having multiple replacement stocks cracking within a few hundred rounds.
+1 on the suppressor gas plug, 2020 precision sear and the red spring kit. Has totally changed the gun--fantastic shooter now
He taught my class
Steyr should partner with these companies and offer these upgrade pre installed.
Mani I would love to do that course … but even more than that I’d love to be able to own an Aug. Thank you, mother Canada, you &$@#!
Five things you didn't know about your Ferrari would have been just as applicable.
Not a fan of the bull pup ergonomics... but I still want a Steyr AUG. Just because.
at the start i thought my screen was dirty af :D
Yeah , so the way I and others fixed the issue of riding the charging handle forward , and slowing down the spring driving the carrier group forward is , pull back the charging handle with the fingers open palm close to reciever body , and once fully to the resr slide hand straight off to side , then there is NO way of your hand getting in the way .
