This is a testament to Trevor's "aura" in interviews. Meek started out stiff and nervous but you can clearly see how relaxed he gets by the end. He's leaning back and talking freely. That's dope.

I really would love to see him do some more longer form type of interview series or documentary. There is just so much he needs to get out that he worries about running out of time. I can’t imagine how tough it is to deliver this painful message with the grace that he has, especially weighed against how good it must feel to have an album go #1, after all he’s been through: It’s all tremendously heavy subject matter that he is handling so well!

He's doing good by using his voice for this. I work in a jail in Florida and it's worse than he says sometimes. Between officers that think they're somehow inherently better than criminals, and the inmates themselves feeling like they have less value and are expected to misbehave, there is an environment that promotes recidivism. We also have people with legitimate mental disorders that make the quality of life for other incarcerated people much worse. Reform is needed. I hope people listen to Meek Mill. Unfortunately with our polarized echo chambers, I worry that his message will be lost in the mix of the "liberal snowflakes" and "celebrity activists". He'll just be considered another complaining kneeler by the far right.

@@bosmatgu if you abide by the terms of your probation you're off at the end of the probation sentence. The length is given by the judge when you're sentenced. But if you violate probation the judge can lock you up and/or change the terms and length of your probation. Little shit can be enough to get you locked back up, so it really just comes down to does the police/judges in your area want to come down hard on you.
At 17 I got locked up for trespassing as a black man I walked through a white lady yard to take a shortcut I spent a week in jail got out on 6 months probation in a fine a $60 every month took my probation offices I was unable to pay and got locked back up for a year and got lit right back out on papers with fines

It's awesome you chose this as your writing topic. I sat in court watching a judge decide the same marijuana cases for various people. She knew one of the defendants' mother/family. She was animated and smiling and merciful to this person. The other people got violations, fines, jail time, lectures. This judge had been guilty of drunk driving in the past. Just recently, she did a hit and run. Ran into her house to avoid being tested for alcohol. She got 50hrs of community service and a $1000 fine for leaving an accident and failure to report an accident. She got away with being intoxicated behind the wheel and hitting someone. I imagine if it were me, they would somehow bust in my door to test my breath and I would do time and pay thousands in fines. Probably shoot my dog on top of it. Judge Catherine Steenland is her name.
I can be sat upon and suffocated to death for selling loose cigarettes. Jailed for addiction (btw, half of prison rapes are committed by GUARDS). But if I'm a corporation or government agency poisoning water, and my actions kills thousands...very few do anything more than pay a fine or house arrest. Our own president was accused of raping a 13 year old! The case was dropped due to her life being threatened! I don't want my name on what this country does. I really would have planned to have a family elsewhere if I knew I would witness the school to prison pipeline ruin kids over non-violent everyday teen mistakes. On old tv shows, white kids would get a ride home in a cop car and get a scolding. Today it's the white college freshman getting a pass for rape (can't ruin HIS future) while the brown person does a decade. Slavery never left, it just morphs. Our prisons and animal slaughterhouses keep the public in the dark for a reason. It is ugly what goes on here.
The awesome thing about now is that people are actually listening and believing....at a time when half the country rejects facts/science/truth. I am hopeful, but only if people vote smarter instead of who they recognize from TV. I hope Americans stop being dumb and actually thoroughly research every candidate from Congress down to your smallest town.
I'm thankful for Trevor and the other comedians for being the ones to break down the real news we need. I mean, how many of us would know what Iowa rep Steve King believes without these guys? How many Americans now know what people like Stephen Miller and Todd Akin believe from mainstream news? I have hope, but we have a lot of work to do to get these cold-hearted people out of government. Voting for Congress, Senate on down is of extreme importance...anyone can vote for president. It seems most Americans in the past only care about president, but the power lies in the judicial and legislative branches (tons of judges from the Dark Ages have been appointed left and right with insane beliefs about religion, women, and non-whites and that's not counting the Supreme Justices recently appointed). Mainstream news makes the presidential part of our voting seem like some popularity game, ignoring anyone not backed by big money from the 2 main parties. We need to get these bad apples out of police departments, churches, courts, Congress.....
Disfortunately, most Americans and English speaking Europeans do not pay attention to the etymology, linguistics and tetragrammaton, including trick English words.

Happy to see that someone got out of that and is now advocating for those people. Not even an average guy that got lucky and became successful, but an amazing person! the USA was never really free or had true freedom that's why people always saying it, trying to portray a different reality.
I don't know anything about who what when where he did that, but I wouldn't want anyone popping wheelies down my residential street, kids play out there in their yards and I grew up playing kickball in our street with all the kids in the neighborhood.
karysmuh I could never pop a wheelie, but when I was a kid, we rode up and down our street all the time. And certainly many attempts at getting that wheel more than an inch off the ground. Popping wheelies was just part of having fun playing on your bike.

He was talking about a dirt bike, a motorcycle, there are several videos of him on dirt bikes on city streets just as the sun is setting, so busy streets. That's just reckless. While I agree the whole probation thing is fucked up, he should own that he showed poor judgement and had he lost control he could have caused a wreck.

Thanks, Trevor for having him on the show. Meek has some added relevance now; I always say it’s never enough to just rap about the things most of them artist do. All the greats, past and present stood for something more than just the music and that’s the stage where Meek is right now and it’s really interesting to see. I hope he can successfully affect the justice system as expected.

Amazing what happens when you find a purpose that entails not just living for yourself but for others and living for something more bigger than you...being a voice for the voiceless. Never knew he had substance like this and glad he was given this platform.
Recently in Vienna I was in a queue at a supermarket and an African American man started arguing across the queue, that they should open another cash because the queue was so long.
As he was arguing it slowly got to him that everyone was bothered of him and there was this occasional someone throwing an argument or a complaint about him in.
He started reassuring everyone he was an upright citizen paying his bills like everyone else, he came from America and lived in Austria for 8 years or so and had a job and was working honest work and all.
And the woman at the cash thought he was insulting her because he started speaking English and kept switching languages and had quite a deep voice with a thick (African) American accent. (and your average citizen might understand normal British English, but not strong accents)
So I started translating to calm people down "he's not insulting you, ma'am, he's just not done asking for a 2nd cash".
So the 2nd cash was finally opened, the man paid for his stuff and on the way out he kept explaining everyone he's an honest man and doesn't mean any harm.
I realized ... he really comes from a different culture.
Because in Europe for your average citizen, people with African heritage are just people who happen to have dark complexion, but in America there seems to exist a stereotype.
Here if someone's in a shop and a "black guy" is with them in the queue, nobody's thinking "Shit does he have a gun? Is he going to rob the shop?".
At worst people wonder "where does he come from and what language does he speak?" ... you know ... CASUAL stupidity.
I definitly agree with you. I'm from Germany and I think there are stereotypes here as well but not as many as in the US. However, recently i've been hearing a lot of white people (young white ppl) saying the n-word and this saddens me and makes me angry...
Please don't generalize Europe as being understanding of the African heritage. Racism is much more nuanced in the European countries (and other countries that were dominated by the slave trade and the raping of the countries' resources). England is said to be more progressive than USA and that is not totally true either, from years of experiencing it at different ages. In my opinion, Americans are not apologetic for much, this translates into Black people not apologizing for being Black (and being more obnoxious...but it's not like we don't have a reason) , and non-Black people not caring/hiding their racism or questionable thoughts (because "I'm not racist, I have 'close Black' friends") because they don't necessarily have to.
Think of this holiday season, all of our elders have things they refuse to let go due to their life experiences. How many of the elderly White Americans have experienced racism directed toward their family or themselves? How many of them have EXUDED racism TOWARDS OTHERS OR STOOD BY AND LET IT HAPPEN IN FRONT OF THEM? How many of them have changed and realized that it is wrong, DURING YOUR LIFETIME? Now, how many of the White people reading this would not WANT to have a Black person (assuming you're that friendly/close) come visit your family over the holidays? Is it because of what the family is hiding? The old crazy Grandma/Grandpa who will SAY the word YOU CAN'T EVEN SING in the car because you morally feel it is wrong and you acknowledge that it is not a word you would want reciprocated along with its associated pain and experiences. #CheckYourElders Understanding your family is a root of racism, is probably the biggest and hardest thing I see friends deal with. They can't/won't speak out because of family respect, but you'll leave your holiday season and return to being close to your Black friends after hearing/spending time around the most racist person(s) you know. #DontThingWeDontCare #ThisIsWhyWeCantTrustYou
...Again, we (Black people) have elders too that are similar in being set in their ways. Still, I'll point out that Black Elders are the ones that probably have witnessed some of the most harmful racism in the USA (and elsewhere...looking at South African Blacks). Telling your Black Grandma/Grandpa to not hate/distrust white people who have done them wrong for a majority of their lives (and they still see it happening today to us) is a lot different than telling the white elderly perpetrator to not be racist because they have no reason to hold on to racist-hate in this day.

In Saiyan One My elders taught me to love everyone regardless of race. There is absolutely nothing I’d fear about having black peoples at my family’s home anytime, as I grew up regularly around my parents black friends and my childhood friends and best friend who were black. I know there must be families like you describe, but never in my life have I personally experienced one.
