Why Titans Protect This Timeline - Speculation Lore

  • Iridikron dropped an interesting line that's been stuck in my head. Have you ever questioned why the titans preserve this timeline? Yeah, why do they? How does that connect to Nozdormu's true timeline and what about prophecies. How come nearly all the cosmic domains can make accurate predictions, but still fail near the end? That and more is what we're going to speculate about today. I hope you'll enjoy ^_^
Say you want more details on all the things we talked about today, check out this WoWhead article:

Your storytelling has completely changed the way I view WoW in such a positive way, I actually feel so much more immersed in the world because of it. They help so much whenever I need to get my mind off things and need to disappear to somewhere better. Just wanted to say thank you Nobbel for always making such incredible videos all these years, I really appreciate you.

I think it's quite telling that the Titans specifically do NOT want to preserve the timeline in which they win. As seen in the Time Rift scenarios, there is a timeline in which they saw their experiments through to the end and accomplished all they wanted to do. And yet, it was dumped in the same heap as the ones where the Scourge eliminated all life, where King Mechagon reversed the Curse of Flesh, where the Old Gods ate the planet, and where the Burning Legion reset the cosmos. All of those fates, and more, are, if not just as bad, at least not worse than... winning. Somehow, for some reason, they don't want to succeed completely. And Azeroth, our planet and their sister, is at the center of this mess.

I stand by my own theory, which I made a 1-off video of.
I mostly make TTRPG content, so literally just a 1-time thing.
    But TL;DW of it:
All 6 elements have an Anchor Point on Azeroth to put energy into or take out of. World Tree(s), ICC, The Sword, etc.
Places of power that can channel the energy from all 6 of the Cosmic Realms into Azeroth to allow her to emerge whole. A single being with powers of the 6, combining them in unthinkable ways to combat "What is to come" ~Zovaal
"The Light is Blind, it cannot see the whole of destiny because it alone is not responsible for it"
Is the quintessential line that brings my theory together.
All 6 are playing to control the prize, but they will all seize it together at the same time. So as the times get more turbulent, so too do we enter the end game.
And Legion was 'just the beginning'.
Fel, setup, Death, Order, Light, Void, Life is the order of the expansions
Legion, BFA, Shadowlands, Dragonflight, The War Within, Nightmare, The Last Titan.
We are playing into The First Ones' design, we the players are the key to the mechanism to 'Fix' Entropy/Decay (Gnolls who worship it), the all devouring 'End'. To bring 'Balance to the Cosmos' to a hypothetical 'once and for all'.
Will we meet the First Ones? Probably not, Entropy may have consumed them alreaddy

Light and Void are like 2 gamblers at the roulette table in my view. The Light will make 1 big bet on 1 number and then manipulate things for that 1 number to win. If there is only 1 chance, then all other options must suffer and all other bets must be losses. The Void will make a spread of bets across a region and then manipulate things to end roughly in that area. Even if they lose most of their bets, the few small wins will carry them forward until that major payday.

I'm not certain they actually have abandoned their charge. It seems more like Nozdormu has just decided to be more flexible with the smaller details for the sake of compassion. Unless I missed something, the Bronze still maintains the timeways and the proper flow of time.

@@ransac16 No, the danuser writing in dragonflight most definitely had the bronze flight totally abandoning their charge and their knowledge and their tasks. Just like every color dragonflight in dragonflight did. The writing is so terrible that it makes us think there was a "PURPOSEFUL" evil conspiracy by cosmic team Life to mind control and steal the aspects away from Titan teachings.....totally betraying the world soul and the mortal non-dragons on this planet.

    • @ransac16
      @ransac16 3 місяці тому +3

@@laertesindeedWhile I will admit that the writing for each flight was barely involved and weirdly heavy-handed, I think you might be fixating on hating Danuser rather than seeing the whole picture. Or maybe after Shadowlands I'm just clinging to whatever decent scraps we get. Not seeing any active plan by the "life gods (Do we even have a name for that "faction" yet). The Aspects are still honoring the Titans, or at the very least, their image of the Titans as presented by/through Tyr. And the World Soul itself directly restored their powers. Of course that's at the end of the expansion so we'll see at best 10% of that impacting.

  • @Quetzen
    @Quetzen 3 місяці тому +4

Just as the Shadowlands had a very solid order of handling souls and anima, only to be flawed over time, I feel this timeline is more and more unpredictable the longer it reaches. Something I've started musing and theorizing about is how the whole of the story does not seem to value or mention because it is hard to catalogue, and that is player intervention. No Titan prophecy can really predict the absolute unpredictability of people capable of stopping colossi and irredeemable villains in pocket worlds, running down invisible life bars and earning vanity in the shape of the demons they destroyed. It sounds stupid, but I fail to see how a Titan tried to kill an Old God and witness the absolute conequences of it versus the 'adventurers' managing to kill them through sheer gameplay mathematics. Even Algalon saw this as a weird form of 'free will' of sorts, something it could not comprehend, because in all senses and purposes without shattering too much of the fourth wall, Algalon and his superiors are 'written' in a way that forces them to see everything one way while the players can freely just topple story events over and over, repeatedly, without dramatically ruining the timeline. Now I know for gameplay reasons we are allowed to do things over and over, but I've never heard the game congratulate an adventurer, so... do they really exist? Are they the ones just magically keeping the timeline 'stable' by picking one instance and making sure it happens?
Maybe I'm missing something, but to me, having the power to see the future reminds me of an old story I wrote mildly based off my 'gameplay mechanics' theory where a character was gifted the power to see the future, in small events, how they will turn out, and how to prepare for them, but if at any point they change history thanks tot hat power to a point that the next vision cannot happen, the whole of the power is lost. This made me think the timeline we're in has something that will be absolute. A culmination of sorts. Something that cannot happen in any other timeline, yet the Titans know it will happen. This can play in two ways, and as this is a fantasy video game, you bet we'll get the worse end of it.
And another thing. If Iridikron is traveling to another timeline, does that mean that other timeline TECHNICALLY also has an Iridikron in it trying to do the same thing? That that other timeline also crossed with an alternate alternate Draenor? And that THAT timeline also has an Iridikron trying to go elsewhere? I'm sorry. I've been fascinated by time travel stories and writing out stories based off the consequences of time travel and alternate universes since the mid-90s and this makes my mind spin so hard.

Invasive is what all the cosmic forces are. yes they see their own prophies, but I think that we, the mortals of Azeroth have been touched by Azeroth herself, increasing our will, defiance, zeal for life and thirst for truth. She saw us at the beginning and since we've been touched by her subtle but powerful hand we're able to do things that npcs just are equipped for, and the more we achieve the stronger her hand is and the more powerful her will runs through us and the more we can achieve. I think because of this, we tend to through every timeline into what is mistaken for chaos. But her goal, is just to be free (and maybe wreck the Titans and the void lords a new one, treating her the way she has been since the beginning)

Zovaal wasn't able to see that much into the future , instead he used mortals to influence things to his favor, Aman'thul has power over time so he is able to see multiple timelines and work to make sure the one that favors Order keeps going, this is much like N'zoth which can see multiple futures but doesn't know which one is the "best" but influences the present to reach the future that favors him the most.

Everytime we mess with the timelines, alternate realities, it's something that alters the path into the future.
The Jailor would have won if not for the Bronze Dragons basically ruining all possibility for planing all paths out. You can't plan for a Mag'har Orc that shouldn't be here. You can't plan for Demon Hunters and the Nightborne and Highmountains joining the Horde because AU Gul'dan shouldn't be in the true timeline, bringing in the Legion.
We can only win by being unpredictable.

    - Xera, Yrel, the Lightbound and the Light.
    - The Void Lords and the Old Gods.
    - Disorder itself.
    - The Jailer.

    Hi Nobbel,
any thoughts on "Time" being the unknown 7th cosmic force? It is conspicuously absent from both cosmological charts but *everything* hinges on it. All of prophecy revolves around the idea that there is a seeable future. Bronze magic and abilities don't obviously stem from any one other cosmic force. What do the other forces have that Time lacks? Physicality, perhaps, a 'realm' or 'plane' of its own.

We leave behind the tiny little thing with them forming life as we know in this timeline, remowed the Old gods - they then gave us the curse of flesh which gave us life on Azeroth as we know today. Yeah lets make a new timeline,. keep all the things that we like about Azeroth today and remowe all the bad things that the bad bad titans forced onto us :O

Maybe this timeline wasn't the original one? Aman'Thul clearly can manipulate time, so maybe in the long distant past he shattered time to escape his fate, creating all the different timelines, and used it to enforce a future where he, the Titans, and Order eventually succeeded. It would be a nice parallel to Nozdormu and Murazond. Aman'Thul cursed Nozdormu if he attempted to change his future because it could reveal Aman'Thul had done that exact thing himself, and undermine his authority over the cosmos.

If Sargeras is a Titan, and Titans are outside of timelines, is he as well outside of time? Is the Burning Legion then as well? And which Archimonde did we fight in WoD?
I hate I even have to ask these questions, I wish this was all answered properly in game. WoD was released 10 years ago, and we still don't know what happened there, what a mess. Anytime that time travel or alternate realities are introduced, it always creates such a mess

Seems more likely that they are preserving a timeline where the Azeroth World Soul becomes the Titan of Wisdom..... following the Sophia archetype from gnostic mythology. For that to happen, she has no equal and opposite partner like the other cosmic forces have.....and she was confronted by each of those forces wanting to make her their own; but learned through her observing the activities of mortals on her surface why each of those confrontations would be a mistake. And after which, she gains real Wisdom and could then rightly manifest herself as the Titan of Wisdom.

Notice that in the vision of the past of the Black Empire fighting the Elemental Lords... everyone is there except Neptulon. Al'Akir is top left, Ragnaros is top right, and Therazane is down in the center (which you can go attack her, it's quite amusing). There are water elementals fighting, but their lord is not present.

I don’t understand why Blizzard seems to be trying to change the lore so that the Titans aren’t as good as we think they are and the Old Gods are misunderstood. The Old gods/Void want to corrupt/consume all life and cause unimaginable suffering. They have never once tried to claim they want anything other than that. They have always been unapologetically single minded in their goals. The Titans might not be paragons of honesty and freedom, but at least they have tried to help cultivate and protect life in the universe to some degree, which makes them good guys by default.
The only way Blizzard could make this kind of retcon is if they did something even more stupid than say that the Jailer was the mastermind behind everything ever, but he had a good reason…supposedly…possibly…like something worse than the Void and Burning Legion combined was on its way.
Blizzard have written themselves into a corner where the Titans are so incredibly powerful they can control the entire WoW timeline, yet were puppets of the Jailer, or vice-versa, but then there are the First Ones, who are more powerful than everyone, but maybe not.

They did not exclude life magic or light magic or even elemental earth magic. There was never a dictatorship, and I have never been told by any Titan what I was required to think or do against my will. I dont like the treatment titans get lately at all. While we can see their obsession with order, at the same time their work is beneficial to all powers. By ordering the planet the domains of life and death take a hold on the planet. In turn light and void try to corrupt/acquirr the living mortals to their side. And fel has an other target to corrupt, conquee and destroy as they always did. Titans are the only fair players in my book and demonising them just hurts the lore on ita entirety. Where were the titans and their truth when the mortals shaped Azeroths entire history? Yes they have some facilities and forces but they were never active. All of this is a series of bad story/worldbuilding in Blizzards side of things.

I'm not the slightest bit convinced that the Titans want to force order magic..... the only "order" they want is the verb, to order things in such a way that they are balanced and sustainable and deserving and flourishing. We have "NEVER" seen any such thing as order magic. Only arcane magic and light magic and shadow magic and life magic and death magic and fel magic. And the Titans have "NEVER" forced everyone to be arcane magic. They have been perfectly happy to use light magic and life magic and even death magic in their task to make things balanced and sustainable and deserving and flourishing. The only thing they don't like are Fel magic and Void magic..... both of which have proved themselves to cause destruction and torture and suffering and total imbalance.

Look at it this way... the Old Gods transformed most of the races into beings of flesh. If these begins of flesh were forced under Order, they would rebel and serve the Old Gods. Hence, deceit it needed to puppet these beings of flesh to serve order, until the time is right to subdue them.

@@red_river_radio7927 The Titans were the ones who already had standard matrix defaults for flesh beings that they normally create on worlds. It was "ONLY" because they found Old Gods on Azeroth when they arrived, and noticed that they were too easily corrupting the minds of pure flesh beings that they went to a temporary plan B of making constructs out of rock and metal from the existing Azeroth material. They needed to do this temporarily so that they could fight and contain the Old Gods without damaging the planet itself further. Then their plan was to eventually go back to flesh beings with the kind of life magic that Eonar could use. The reality is, Old Gods did not create life, nor flesh..... they just speak in half truths and lies; so what they probably managed to do was find some way to "flip a switch" on some of the constructs that would change their internal stabilization matrix from the Plan B back to the default flesh. And those flesh versions were easier to whisper.
