Humanity did a lot of stuff with old-school technology. Planes, trains and automobiles. World war 1 and 2, with nuclear weapons at the end. Nuclear power, the Apollo missions and the first satellites did not use what we would consider 'computers' by today's standards.

the demand for computers begun during the world war 2 because the american military wanted to predict where their projectiles would land as faster and as more precise as possible,at first they hired humans to do the math on paper but because there were many fights they didn't have much time to do that.so they created the first computer to do the math.
the first desctop computer,univac was released in the market around the 1953 and failed to sell,just like many inovative invations.it was big and untrastworthy.
nasa managed to replace the vacuum tubes of the desctop domputer with transistors to reduce it's size and make it more trustworthy and they turned it to apolo 11's navigation system.

Could be worse. My mom is _aggressively_ computer illiterate. I just barely got her to start using the UA-cam TV App on my old PS3 and she still doesn't understand how subscriptions work.
She keeps asking me for help in getting to a "dot com" so she can update her disability info.
It saves time if I just do the whole damn thing myself even though it makes me a little uncomfortable.
