While there is no denying Curlin was the better horse I loved Hard Spuns gutsyness. Reminds me of Forty Niner and General Assembly type horses. The little horses that could and rarely ran a bad race. I had $50 to win on Hard Spun and while he lost he did not disappoint me. I just kick myself for not laying down a place or exacta wager. Curlin at $10 to win and SH at $7 for place...could have been nice. SH gave it his best so I had a hard time feeling bad I lost money.
I love horse racing and it is a sport I have been following for 14 years. Curlin was a beast of a horse and one of the best we've seen since the start of 2000's. But this race was soured by what happened to George Washington. There are dark spots in this sport, and this was a fine example of that. Every time I watch this, seeing Mick Kinane ride that poor horse so hard when he clearly was NOT right makes me sick to my stomach. Any person who actually had any concern for the well being of George Washington would have pulled him up the moment the horse started to struggle so severely. I don't believe that it is the horses connections (trainer, owner) to blame for this one, for how could they have known? The only person to blame, in my opinion, is that jockey. It disgusts me.
That was quite stupid stuff from Kinane to keep pushing him when he was already 2nd last and 50 lengths off the first two. Surely a fate he didn't deserve and such a great jockey should have known better. Anyway, they were extremely lucky not to have lost Dylan Thomas as well in the Turf. Both should have been NRs.
they showed the equine ambulance and screens on another video i saw..and i loved George Washington too...i was in Indianapolis at the time of this race and i sobbed my heart out when i found out about his death
@Rab1802 yes but any race i look at, I scroll down to the comments and if anything bad happened to a horse and the horse happened to be quthenized due to said injury, someone has something terrible to say about the owners or how horse racing is terrible
@KobuZeroFlux I have nothing terrible to say about horse racing, I love the sport, however in this case, Aiden O'Brien and John Magnier knew all too well that George Washington had never run in these type of conditions, and in my opinion ground that is classified as 'Sloppy' should not be raced on at all, thus why I had said that they condemned him to death, I am well aware how well these race horses are treated normally, but this time the connections of George Washington made a fatal mistake.
God bless America Curlin is such a special horse ⭐️

horses don't die because they run in the slop
A sloppy track is a fast track with water sitting on the surface. Any horse who can handle a fast track can handle a sloppy track.
When did George Washington break down?
Not long before the wire
@KobuZeroFlux I am just one person :P
@Rab1802 you people seriously need to stop with that DEATH crap. It's annoying
Sorry that a champion dying due to a training mistake is a problem. What happened to GW is held up as a negative part of racing all these years later.
