I had an iguana about that size. He was completely tame with people he knew, although he would sometimes whip if strangers got too close. This was pre-internet, so I never knew that iguanas are considered difficult for many owners. I found him to be one of the easiest pets I ever owned. When he was about six or seven years old, I got a job that required travel. I donated him to the local zoo, and they let him loose in their massive 40' tall aviary. That enclosure is amazing. It was built around a cluster of oak trees, and it's filled with all kinds of plants and smaller trees. Some birds are free to fly around the whole space, and some (like the toucan) have their own enclosures inside the aviary. I had a membership to the zoo, and I would go visit my iguana (or at least try to spot him in the trees) regularly. Eventually, I moved far enough away that I couldn't get to the zoo for a few years, and when I went back, I couldn't spot him. I don't know how long they live in captivity, but this was about 25 years ago that I gave him to the zoo, so he's probably gone by now. He was a good boy ☺️

I wonder--since the law is, if you catch an invasive species, you need to euthanize it, what did you do with the ones you caught??
I think I once watched a vid where they said you allowed to release them on the spot you found them since they can't force you to kill it. You are not allowed to move them to different places

You can release them on the spot, but you can't remove them from their habitat entirely and then release them.
