Steve was always the purest of pure and always stood up for what he truly believes was the right thing. Tony however was 180 from his father. Yes he developed weapons and came up with the iron man armor but he allowed money and fame to corrupt him and he even notes on how he's hated Rogers for as long as he's known and never wanted to believe that Rogers was more than just a science experiment in a lab from a bottle. Rogers chose to fight for others, Tony fought for himself until he got Pepper and started understanding her more.
And I still look to Captain America as to how I should feel about my country. In these days, it's a difficult thing to do, but keep the mindset as Cap did, and you can't go wrong.
