How to repair a CatMate/PetMate 33501 water pump

- If you have a dog or cat water drinking bowl from catmate or petmate then the pump will fail on you from time to time. Here is the quick howto on getting it working again, saving buying a new pump!

Good day Andy ☀️ I want to thank you for taking the time and putting this video on UA-cam. It was a HUGE help. It was the 2nd water pump that stopped working and certainly didn’t want to keep spending money on replacing water pumps.

This video saved me from buying a new motor for about 60% of the price of a new catdogmate. (shipping and VAT included). You sir are an unsung hero. my motor still only spins 30% of the time on plugging it in but starts going after giving it a little knock on the side. still don't know for sure what it might be as it is not that old and there was not much buildup on the inside.
Was about to buy a new one then watched your video. I have 3 fountains here for my 6 cats!!! I have cleaned and taken them partly apart before but did not know about the limescale. Obviously the water in Cornwall to blame. Thank you.

Giving a thumbs up hardly covers it, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I was on Ebay and ready to buy a new fountain and thought I'd check to see other reviews just to find this video. Twenty minutes later after some cleaning the gunk is gone and working like new.
Excellent video - I knew you could take the cover off to remove scale but I had no idea that the rotor could be removed. One good clean of that and the chamber later - working again! Thank you for the insight. :)

Wonderful! My pump is now working. Side note: Before I tried to take out the little impeller, I gave that part of the pump a blast of spray from a can of compressed air. Much to my surprise, the little blade blew right off! Saved me some work. Thanks for the video.
Unfortunately our pump impeller wouldn't come out so easy, too much crud and dirt. It pays to keep the entire fountain clean.

Omg thank you. This really helped. I didnt realise how gross they get. Mine stopped working and i took it apart like you showed. It was full of gunk so no wonder it stopped. Im going to make sure i take it apart and fully clean the pump more often

Thanks! I can't believe how bad these things are. Mine broke after just 2 months. Manufacturer said that it's not covered under warranty. Last pet mate product I'll buy.
Glad you got yours sorted, The pump is used by more than just Pet Mate so you'll encounter them again and again! At least we know you can fix and keep them running now :-)

thank GOD for this video. I was just about to buy a 15 dollar replacement i did this and its fine now. I got one of these fountains cause my cat likes going in the faucet a lot, ever since I got him the fountain he never went into the bathtub till today and i saw it was broken. poor kitty looked so sad and kept meowing as I was tinkering with it!! so glad its repaired and working again :D

Thank you very very much sir! I was dreading having to wait 1-2 weeks for a new one to be shipped to my part of the world. Now, after soaking the parts in vinegar and cleaning all the scale, it works like a charm.
I would recommend to clean the pump like shown here once a week or at least every two weeks. Did this from the beginning we got our cat mate fountain and just now after several years the pump failed for the first time. But I figured, that I must have made a mistake putting things back together, because the magnet is no longer fixed to the rotor.

@2:20 no need to use screw driver you might break one of the blades. Just use long nose pliers. Any way thanks for the video I was having hard time to figure out how to open it and remove things making the water pump from pumping strong water. Thanks again.

Great thanks! Our pump is slightly different with a rotating speed control covering the impeller but I was able to pry that off and just messing about with it got a lot of gunk out of the pump.

I love you for this!! Just saved us either buying a replacement motor or a new fountain! Ours is a Harmony brand pet fountain and this still worked like a charm!!

Thank you so much! Now is working again =) Also good for clean inside, put some citrone juice. It kills the lime in a natural clean way. if you use it for animals. Much better then vinegar :)

Thank you thank you thank you so much I knew I could get the top bit off.. But didn't know how to get to the pump.. Put the top back on and I was washing the pump but that I could get off.. And your video came up out of no where..for a while now I couldn't figure out what that white stuff was well almost light brown that was coming through the pump into the water fountain a few times it's happened.. I've had the fountain for a year or maybe a little longer...I clean it really well by hand and have a bottle brush.. And soak in white vinegar which works soo well.. I also use ozone water which helps the water last longer and noticed when I was cleaning the inside of the pump the lime scale wasn't stuck too much it was really soft and easy to get off.. Really good news.. Its really good to be able to clean them and not have to buy a new one ❤️

+Anónimo ah; and I forgot to say that the pump was going slow lately and making noise until it completely stopped today. My problem was not hard lime build up but a nasty gluey stuff.
