Put oxford inflator on your instrumental Bus and lower input all the way down and the output up then, effect 100٪ and curve slowly up. band split on. Now the instruments get more details. In some way bass line comes more to light. Its like self organizing.
It wasn’t until the 41:00 mark that I realized the brown throw pillow on the couch in the background was actually a dog curled up in a tight ball. Good dog. I bet there are a million things in MDN’s mixes that pooch hears that none of the rest of us ever will. “Should I tell him about the phase issue around 28k? Naw. I’ll just ignore it and go back to sleep.”
It's nice to hear a seasoned pro talking about wider not necessarily being better, or even fatter, etc. I feel this to the core. Listen to how the track FEELS. A lot of the time I'll put my go to tape on, and although it's doing some things I like, sometimes, overall, it's taking away from the track, so I'll turn it off and abandon it. Your decision and explanation here is extremely validating. Thanks!
Wow. What a great tutorial. Love the way he goes between soloing and the whole mix. I only wish Marc would do a lot more of these. Because he’s articulate, explains so well, and gets great results…
I would just like to thank you with all my heart for making all this content available to us for free. you don't even have an idea of the number of people who, thanks to this channel, acquire a lot of skills in mixing. Thanks to you Warren and hats off to the one I consider my mentor Marc Daniel and I don't forget Eric either. TCHATCHATCHA TCHOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!🤣
Thanks for this. It is very rare to get a full video on some one mixing R@B. Most of the audio engineering videos focus on guitar driven music. It would be amazing to get more videos on the recording process of modern R@B style pop.
I really dig that tip about the phaser on the bass. Since low freqs are most susceptible to phase issues, this will make space for the punch in the kick. Similarly, you could put the phaser on the kick and leave the bass, or indeed use the same philosophy on any competing LF elements. It gives movement which is almost always a good thing. It’s not just applying a phaser to achieve a phaser sound, but using physics to create space. So smart.
Great song, very good tips, very entertaining too! Many thanks MDN! You're were already really good and now getting even better at explaining things. Well done 🙂
Great video as usual. Just one little observation, when setting the H-delay for the Rhodes by using taps, it was set to host sync. Shouldn't that have been milliseconds?
Y'all are awesome!! Thanks for posting. We love this stuff!!! Love how well the tracks are put together too (shout out Rec Engineer Ricardo) - P.S. Are you all going to do another panel at NAMM this year?
Oh shit I new as soon as you said Jeff Buckley it was gonna be everybody here wants you - one of my all time favs! Lives in my adptr ab! Marc, you’re the man.
Someone recently gifted me one of those herman miller aeron chairs and i think it's one of the most underated yet studio standard pieces of gear ever. The stealth chair is cool and all but i'm sitting in the same chair as Marc Daniel Neslcon, CLA, JJP, etc. ,i'm just sayin'. Give credit where credit is due! Lol
Hey Marc... When I look at all of the wav files they look like sausages (not a lot of dynamics) but they don't sound completely squashed and all of your faders are at 0. What am I missing here? I know it's an overused term but how was this gain staged to be so even but not sound over compressed?
the new SSL plugin doesn't even show up on their official website so I guess people wouldn't know about it nontheless as always very insightful tutorial from Marc!
That should be released later this year however all we know is we should be getting an fx plugin, 360 tools and another channel strip. I don’t know if this plugin is the fx one they’ve talked about in their social media
You do realize when you use the "Tap" feature on H-Delay when set to "Host" it doesn't offset the timing to what you tapped in, it locks to the closest time signature value to what you clicked tapped in, you have to set it to "ms" to get an offset.
Not gonna lie differences between ref mix and final Marc's mix isn't as big as i expected, but i guess the track didn't need much since it sounds great anyway
@@carterthomasmusic Absolutely!!! Auto tune can make even the most untalented human sound good to the ignorant public. Just don't let it get to your head and think there's any talent there.
Hard autotuned songs like this one are done for effect mostly in modern music not out of necessity because of a lack of talent. Autotune can’t save a bad performance.
this is truly the worst song I've ever heard. I can't believe I sat through this video. Marc you are a true gent, i'd've gave in having to hear that over and over.
Great stuff! This dude is awesome indeed. Anyone here got a solid tip for saving cpu's? I can't be the only one working on a not to big PC. Anyone with experience with committing to sounds and rendering tracks? Maybe busses? Any tips welcome🥸 Thanx

Autotune for Vocals 😝
OXFORD INFLATOR, Black Box and everything UAD!!!! 👍🏼

Marc is a true legend! One of my favorite mixers out there
He is!
MDN, ladies and gentlemen! Nothing else needs to be said, just enjoy! Peace
ha! Thank you. We love having Marc on here
Marc is like an audio Monk to me - I feel like I am at a meditation retreat about audio engineering when I watch these videos
That bass note on the Rhodes chird rubbing against the bass guitar 🎸 bass note was driving me crazy! 😂
Hey Marc, what is that desk of yours? Looks so great! 🔥🧨💪🏽🤠👍🏽🧨🔥
This channel sets the bar for Audio/Music Production information. We Are Blessed! 🙌🏽
🙌 Thanks so much.

Thanks, Conor! Indeed so much in one video
Is there something he can't mix? :) Absolutely huge value in Marc's tutorials, totally enjoy his way of sharing and teaching his tips and tricks!
ha! We should! Marc? :D
@dylans voice I’m sure he can!!
hip hop is really not my genre - but one thing is for sure - in the end it is a perfect balanced mix and industry standard sounding
That is what this channel is all about. There is so much you can learn from each genre and mixing decision. Thanks for watching
Love how you explain your process and how you use the tools

Great with an R&B mix for a change. With multitracks. Thanks!
You are welcome!
I love the Seventh Heaven reverb

Fantastic video. Great insight, thanks very much Marc, you rock and I'm more Hip Op (eration) than Hip Hop. Big thanks to the PLAP team. Cheers
Our pleasure! Thanks so much for watching and enjoy the mulitracks
That's really inspiring and beautiful to watch. Thank you Marc and the Produce Like A Pro team
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, guys. Great track, and MDN’s got some mad skillz - great job!
Another GEM, thx Marc and Warren. Bless
Thank you
Loved following along and learning on this. This actually answered quite a few questions I had overall. Love it!
I feel like I’ve been heard. Thank you Warren. And especially you Marc. I need more RnB information specific. It is not a lot out there.
What a wonderful tutorial and set of multitracks! Thank so so much PLAP and Marc! Cant wait to download and start mixing the song. =)
Thanks ever so much:Sam! I really appreciate it
Awesome 👏 been waiting for this

care to share the reason for the automation on the lead track? it seems like the moves were small enough to go unnoticed by most

Really wanted that kick harder tbh - great mix tho !
Mix it yourself and make it sound the way you want it to!

When i add delay on the piano R .. i star loving and enjoying the song … one move u fix the Track
The SSL Sub/Gen is not available yet it would appear... ☘💪🏽👀👍🏽☘
A genius at work. I am very curious as to why the recording engineer and producer though so many background vocals were needed. Very overkill imo

Is it just me or multitracks pack includes vocals only? :(
Yes, I just noticed that. Tons of vocal stems but no drums or instruments.
Why just vocals ?
You should have an email that includes ALL the multitracks now :) Check your mail
Please check your email now :) We resolved it. Sorry about that
@@Producelikeapro thank u
I don’t think their is Bass in the multitracks.
I think he leaked the SSL sub gen plugin, that’s not released yet! We didn’t know about it up until now!
