    Normally I‘m a silent fan of yours, but I really want to tell you how much I love your videos. You, Charlie, the doggos and your wholesome life in the Cotswolds are all so uplifting to watch. I rather watch your videos instead of TV or anything else. It‘s so entertaining, realxing and never get‘s boring. Your whole life inspires me so much for the creation of my own lifepath. Hopefully I can soon visit all the beautiful places in the Cotwolds, you show us all the time. Keep up your good work. Lots of love from Germany!

      Yes, exactly I live in Michigan and that’s exactly what we do. We cut them down in the fall and they regrow in the spring so you can definitely cut them down.

    I don't think that the grasses are dead. Cut them back and I am sure that green sprouts will appear soon.

    Just an idea…..You have three jars of covered rhubarb, so you could force one per year, leave the other two uncovered, and always have one that’s able to be used in the spring!

    Hi Josie, We had the same grass in our garden in Germany- they looked like that every winter and weren’t actually dead at all. Then we cut them back and they were green in summer and autumn

    My grasses look like this after every winter. I just cut them back and they regrow nice and new! If you get rid please offer them to someone else to transplant as I’m sure someone would love to have them ❤

    The best way to make the baking paper fit the baking tin is to cut the amount you need, turn tin upside down, put paper on top, fold each of the corners down to fit as if you’re basically wrapping up a present without tape, turn tin right side up & the paper case will fit perfectly inside tin 😁 🍰.
    The flowers in the Daylesford bouquet are astrantia (or as I much prefer the other name..Hattie’s pincushion 🥰).

    My Dachsie's have always ruled the roost and I love their strength of character. I have had this breed since I was 1 yr old and absolutely adore Dachschunds. They never do anythng with out a reason- so if Dexter was barking in increments- he had a reason and my bet he got the results he was going for. :)

  • @jessicahellmer

    Are you sure the grasses are really dead? I'm in the Midwest (US) and we just cut back our ornamental grasses really low to ground level in either Fall or Spring, to allow for the new growth to come through in the new year. Just a thought before you tear them all out. ♥

    • @femkevds665
      @femkevds665 Рік тому +2

      Same! Ground level in autumn and they come back to their previous size.

    • @nataliekeane8944
      @nataliekeane8944 Рік тому +3

      Yes, a lot of people don't realise that they're actually not dead and a big part of the beauty of these grasses is their beautiful soft structures that move in the breeze during winter creating interest through the cold months. I'd be surprised if the professionals didn't know what plants suited the area! 🤔

    I live in Ottawa, Canada and we are in a zone 5a, our winters see snow (lots of it) and temps can go down to -25C. I have grasses that "look" like yours every year but once the snow has gone, (our last frost dates are May) tiny green shoots start to appear and they regrow to their former glory. The nice thing about grasses is that they give a lovely fall and winter show. I hopt yours come back! BTW that green Erdem dress is perfection and with your green shoes
    Once again, thank you for your wonderful content, I sit with my cuppa and just sit back learn and enjoy every time💞

    My little dog, Buddy, is a mountain goat too! He is half Shih Tzu, half Maltese so a Malshi. I found him when he was 18 months old at a rescue shelter. He loves to find the highest spot in the room to sleep - which is the back of the sofa. I love seeing your dogs and I totally understand how much you love them.

    Josie, the Erdem dress from NET-A-PORTER looks like it was especially made for you - you look sensational in it!😍 I'm positive la,la, and Charlie's mum will have been ecstatic with their Mothers Day flowers - I don't think I've seen a more stunning bouquet filled with all of my favourite flowers!! 😍

  • @ChrisCalmtheCrazy
    @ChrisCalmtheCrazy Рік тому +41

    The grasses can be cut back (and separated by the root to keep size small) to the ground. They will regrow to the size you had as long as they are hardy to your zone. Someone would love to have them if you want to dispose of them. I know if you called and said you wanted to get rid of ornamental grasses, I would come over within the hour and take them out for you. Consider separation and trimming before disposal.

    • @sandee2064
      @sandee2064 Рік тому +4

      I agree, our Mexican Feather Grass does the same thing. It can be separated and quite often the center dies back. I can't help but wonder if Josie and Charlie's grasses could be saved, even just a bit of them?

    • @sallyannc3176
      @sallyannc3176 Рік тому +4

      Definitely - Josie cut them down to the ground and look for regrowth, plus divide them. I don't think they're the same as Monty Don's grasses, and I don't think they are dead.

    I would cut down the grass bushes right away (6-10 inches above ground), I think you're supposed do that late winter/early spring. You can also divide the grass root if and when it gets too large, and plant elsewhere but don't throw them away 😊

    Good Morning from Georgia in the US! Thank you for your vlog yesterday and today. Y'all are just so inspiring, as to, how love, hard work and responsibility pays off with a life of fun, beauty and commitment to each other and your families. I also wanted to make a comment about your hair. You said in a past video that someone made the comment that your beautiful wavy hair made you look older.......I don't think so!!! If anything your hair made you stand out. I asked a few of my family members to judge your hair....hands down, everyone loves your beautiful waves and curls! (aged old to young) Our grandson, said it reminded him of Farra Fawcet from the 70's or is it 80's. ❤ from Georgia USA

    Lovely to see spring arriving. For a loaf cake pan, cut two pieces of parchment paper, one that fits down one end, across the bottom and up the other end. No wider than the width of the pan. The other down one side, across the bottom and up the other side and no wider than the length of the pan. Fussier but neater. Looked great. Rustic icing is a style. You nailed it. 👏👏👏👏

    My German Shepherd, Norman, has a lovely quirk: he literally curls up to sleep at 7:30PM, and doesn't wake until (maybe) 7:30AM... he's done that since we rescued him in 2020. Occasionally, when the deer herd moves through at 2AM, we'll hear a screaming howl that will wake the dead. So, Dog Mums get it... right? 💚

    The little 'tree' in your greenhouse looks like an Azalea. You can get lovely ones that are hardy in the garden - might be a good replacement for some of the grasses in your borders.

    Here in the South Eastern US we trim our grasses in late Fall. Then by March the new leaves (branches?) start growing again. May be different in the UK?

      Not different. Exactly the same. Can be done in early spring too.

    Our Australian Terrier Eddie is a sofa climber as well - he climbs as high as he can now matter where he is! If there is a rock, stair or bench, he will be on it, even if only for a moment while he trots past on a walk 😂 if you love sausages you will definitely love Aussies, they’ve got the short legs and big personalities 🙈

    I’m not sure if our grasses are the same species or not but they look identical. And every March, our landscapers cut them back to the size of a half globe and they grow back beautiful every year.

    I was so confused as a New Englander when Monty Don said that about his grasses needing to be ripped out. Here ours die every year-we leave them for fall color -then cut them way down (inches off the ground) around this time of year. They come back every spring, but maybe we have different grass species than the British grasses??

    I just was catching up on your vlogs! The rhubarb cake looks amazing. Also, I'm curious if you cut your ornamental grasses down in the spring like we do here in the US? We usually cute the grasses down to about 3 inches in height and then new fresh grass grows in the spring. I can't imagine your grass is actually dead dead. Just a thought.
