I loved the 47s but this sound I will always remember as my house overlooked the railway embankment between Southall and the Iron bridge Uxbridge Road. Tbh honest I like all the Diesels that were around then.
Good to see these old girls doing their bit for the environment! And who said steam was filthy and dirty! Even now, the rail industry need to address why there are so many diesels running under or over the wires. For all that, the sound of these beasts is just fantastic.
I take it this vid was shot just before they were withdrawn yes? Cos i think they were withdrawn about a year after this year so it would of been 92 i think the 50s were gone from service
Such great memories of this wonderful locomotive. Had over 70k miles behind it. Worked at Laira T&RSMD during my apprenticeship also. Wanted to preserve this loco, however my Depot manager Geoff Hudson said,"Brian, its yours for 20,000 pounds.(1991) myself and friends could not raise the Capitol, and so I saw her off to MC Metals in Glasgow around the early part of 1992 So sad, but so good Memories. X How do we feel so attached to these locos.? I guess like our cars. The 2nd year apprentices at that time including myself spent a whole day cutting coms and removed 50046's engine and fitting into 50007 so the green godess could be preserved. Good times. Long live the hoovers and the 16CVST engines.
Shut up you idiot how the fuck are these locos ugly..one of the best looking i think you desperately need to go to spec savers...and if anything the only ugly fuck here is you
Large logo livery was that rare livery that stilled looked as good weathered as it did clean. Same with Red Stripe Railfreight too.

Wonderful, Wonderful memories. Beats the plastic junk there is now on the railway.
Great video! My favourite loco!...
Thanks SWRP...

Great shots of an old favourite. Shame they didn't clean them more often !
Thanks Michael..
Good to see class 50's in action! I only thought they were allocated to the Western Region!
Ajax was the best, her bogies and power unit live on with 50007. Shame she could not have been saved to roar like here 😪
If that's the case as 50007 has Ajaxs unit and bogies...then wat happened to 50007s unit and bogies????
flippop 101 and stuart wright must be duff neds .

Junk
Ugly locomotives at best, but sporting the awful NSE livery, they look seriously ridiculous. Sorry but it’s true.

NSE livery was good. It certainly brightened up stock and stations at the time.
At least everyone knew what it stood for unlike, current liveries.
@@stevenmoran4060 there’s a lot of truth in both your arguments.
