Great video Derral!! First thing Ill do is rethink my channel banner.
On my original channel that has less than 900 subs I've had people say, "oh wow, you responded...I didn't expect you to actually respond, thank you!!!" In my opinion that goes to show that the interaction can mean a lot to people even if the channel they are commenting on is small. And the advantage of those of us with small channels is that we can spend even more time interacting with our viewers because no one gets lost in a pile of comments.

Derral Eves Yes! I can't wait to watch it. I've been buying adwords video campaigns using remarketing lists but I think I'm missing a couple key things that will help lower the cost so reviewing your presentation will be really helpful!

Good video but don't go overboard on annotations they annoy people and arent that effective. Integrate ur msg into the video briefly with graphics.

I'm starting to put my logo on all of my thumbnails. I think it's working. Either that or it could be that all of the other things I'm doing at the same time are. IDK really but I'm just going to continue to try new things until my channel explodes. :P
+Scratchifier I also love the commenting response tip. I respond to nearly every comment I get if not all.
+Scratchifier I feel the same way, it's like when you start putting all those advices into actions, magic happens, I've seen in my channel too, watch time, views and subscriber count is going up very quickly. Derral really know what he's talking about.

I watch a few channels who have good videos, but their profile picture is crappy, no channel art, no about me section and no links to social media. (and a personal pet peeve of mine - hair covering their face). I really want to comment - update your profile picture!! but I don't want to be rude :)
All the "little things" really do make a BIG difference :)

i started a channel about rubik's cube and speedcubing knowing that it is so much a niche subject that nobody would watch it. anyway i found out i have a fedelized audience, which comments a lot and like a lot. in two weeks i had 100 subs, and my results are much higher than expected.
This is definitely going to be a re-watch over and over video for me to keep me on target. I appreciate your channel so very, very much. Thank you for making videos with such quality, helpful, on point content. You rock Derral!!!
UA-cam cannot force me to use those features that I don't like or want to use for my videos. However, I personalize my UA-cam channel and videos to make them most appealing to UA-camrs.

i want to ask if i can put the transcript to a non-talking video? i don't want to talk in my video, but i want my viewer can read my story. does youtube count it as a fault and spammy
You can eat the food but not ride the slide - what a bummer. Lol. Thanks for this info. Got to work on those thumbnails. Get rid of long intros too. Got to get that hook. I had stopped putting annotations after the cards were implemented. Got to rethink that now.
I am small enough that I can often to reply to every comment if they have a reply option.

I'd like to thank you for the tips that you give us for helping to build our channel. You are by far the best at what you do on UA-cam. I only have a small channel with my brother but just starting to change some of the things I have seen so far, we have dramatically increased our views and subscriptions. We only have 2000 subs but hope to be at 5000 in the next 6 months with your information. Thanks again.

Why don't you use the method you talk about when you say to hook viewers within 7 seconds? And then engage within 30 seconds. You also say use cards, but there is no card in this video. I'm confused. You didn't start talking about the actual title until 1:14 into the video. This is not a dis, Derral just wondering if that time is for small channels. Because I will watch your videos just because I'm your biggest fan, outside of your family!
Question. My channel's original focus has been on films I've made and filmmaking stuff like stock footage, but since I've release a documentary on Asperger's, I've also been putting my Asperger's related videos on this channel. Would it be more productive and ideal for my audience to make a separate channel for Asperger's? Would I get more views if the film and Asperger's aspects were two separate channels or one?

Derral, you did a very good job! Thanks for the insight into the operations of the UA-cam Team. I only wish they would avail themselves to live tech support instead of playing on their slides. I've had a few problems that could not be resolved. I received only form-letter replies that did not address my problems.
If you are still alive, could you explain why I should put my brand logo on every video, instead of an enticing photo, or did I misunderstand what you were saying? Miss you buddy!!!!!

The problem with Annotations is that a large number of people watch on Mobile devices and Annotations do not show up on smart phones etc.

+The Killjoys That depends on how they're made and where they're placed in the video :) But you're right, when i watch a video full of annoying annotations, i just turn them off.

When I tell people that replying to comments is MANDATORY, they look at me like I'm a crazy person... I can't stand it when I take my time to post a comment to people and they simply don't reply... as if they're too big to say a simple "thank you" or something... As one of the huge UA-camrs, I am GLAD that you touched on this... THANK YOU and congrats on your success ;) ;)
I just started using more visually appealing thumbnails. I didn't really want to do this because I didn't want to lose credibility if they looked cheesy. My logo isn't on them but they light up all my other social media platforms. Instagram especially. People who didn't watch my videos before started to. Now my demographic is extremely specific so I don't expect to blow up. Most of my peers that are more successful than myself only have a few thousand subs tops! Some I've beat in that with my 600. Anyway, thumbnails do help

Thanks Derral for these tips. I am in the process of re-creating all my thumbnails to have the same theme\look. It makes perfect sense how that will draw more views to other videos if they all look the same way. I have been following your channel in the background since you were at 5000 subs and shortly started applying your tips and advice to my videos and channel. I am now over 600 subs and approaching 1 million views in total.
