Genshin OST made me realize how vital music is for games. The music designs for each environment and area just creates an atmosphere making you more immersed.

Shantae is best genie. I have her games on GOG, but I will need to be in the right frame of mind/mood to play these, lest I die, and die, and die, and die, and die, and die, and die, and die, and die, and die again.
And yes, the music slaps. Shake it!

toriel's theme was the first thing from UNDERTALE i was introduced to by my sister , as i was listening to the theme being played i had to imagine my own idea for the context of the game and the meaning for the music , as all i had to go off was her telling me it's a new popular indie rpg , that you were fighting your tutorial trainer , and the fanart of toriel using what appeared to be fire magic
i think i can still remember the feelings i extrapolated from this , a mix of meloncoly , triumph , trial , perhaps some reluctance , wish i was capable of more often feeling such feelings
but i knew i was going to have to play this game to find out what the game was about and to see how close my evaluating was
    >from the reactors of genshin impact
and honkai impact the 3rd , you know , the only good gacha game.....
though idk if it would be fair to count it's boss music as where they actually put their top quality effort is into the cinematics of it's various boss story/fight moments which are not played in the gameplay , but if it would be then honaki impact would blow the rest of the competition out of the sea of quanta.....

Listening to Song of Hope reminds me of the best songs from Two Steps From Hell.

ULTRAKILL is what got me into Breakcore and I now realize that a few tracks I enjoy use Amen Breaks such as "Your Best Nightmare".
Also, once you hear the Among Us Trap Remix, you'll never unhear it. It pops up when you least expect it in several game soundtracks.

To be fair to Shantae, all 5 games had banger tracks from Burning town and Risky's theme from the first game to Rottytops getting a theme in the 2nd game, to the amazing track of Pirates Curse, and the reup revamp tracks?? of HGH. Great tracks all around. Oh yeah Mermaid falls was a revamp track from Pirates Curse Saliva Island.

This makes me think of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos and Darksiders. Mainly 2 and Genesis. Both have very good and strriking style and visual presentation as well as good combat and characters, and it's all helped SO FUPPING MUCH by the MUSIC.
Seriously, look up the second track of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos' OST alone (which i believe is simply called The Boy Calls). It first place in a dream tutorial, which in itself is not that special of an area, but the song *hits*. It feels much more special than the initial moment would warrant. And as you go on, you realize it provides a leitmotif and vocal quality that returns time and again throughout the entire game at different points.
And the other music is simply good stuff as well.
As for the Darksiders 2 and Genesis cases specifically... Jesper Kyd and Gareth coker just don't miss. At all. The Forge Lands in Darksiders have a kind of celtic and bittersweet quality to them, fitting for a realm of essentially giant dwarves, that is choking in the grip of Corruption.
And there's much more. The Dead Plains don't sound like normal gloomy medieval stuff, but... alien. Desolate, but still with personality. Even bombastic when it wants to be.
Meanwhile, the soundtrack of Genesis makes me think of humanity at a young state. It's not quite prehistoric, but it's definitely before the rise of the Abrahamic faiths (or whatever is the equivalent in the Darksiders universe).
One of the best examples of this wild, young humanity still in the stage of being shaped, while *also* telling of a significant event on a much larger, non-human scale, is within the boss theme of Astarte. There is a chorus, but it doesn't sound like a church chorus specifically. And there's instruments that make me think of the Mongolian horse fiddle, most likely in reference to the fallen warrior species of the Nephilim within the game's world.
That, and knowing the significance of horses within Mongolian culture, and the fact the game is about the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who themselves *are* Nephilim.
All that said, just have a good ol' listen and may you enjoy it. There's a lot to love.
'Ave a good one and take care.

Nier Automata hooked me instantly when I saw a clip of the Opera Boss. I bought it instantly. That game has some of the best musical soundscapes I've heard in a game.
Hi-Fi Rush, Persona, and The World Ends Eith You Series are also games with excellent music complementing the gameplay.

I own both Nier and World Ends with You Neo, I'll eventually get to them. Hi-fi was a big but welcome surprise for me this year, and I'd die any any hill related to persona music

I purchased Hi-Fi Rush's soundtrack through Steam, specifically because I wanted to use their recreation of 'Wolfgang's 5th Symphony' in my Year Mix; that's how much I vibe with it. More than deserving of being 2023's stand-out game OST of the year.
The other games you mentioned hold true to what was said early in this vid: I would play their soundtracks more than I would play the games themselves, even though I own a copy of Nier Automata.

TGC' journey and sky: cotl have such good soundtracks, pls check it out if u can. The art direction in both games are top notch, and the trailer for one of their newest games (sword of the sea) can literally be listened to on repeat. The Path also had great art direction and soundtrack, an if u wanted a modern game like SotC, then that's ur game.
I'm happy that there are people whole still love the artistry put in games, and value a good soundtrack/ art design just as much as gameplay and story.
I also wanna mention FF12 since it's one of those games that could have been truly great if not for the trainwreck of a story (mainly due to things out of its control like changing directors an mismanagement). It's so beautiful and culturally rich that you can literally not care about the story and still have fun with the mechanics and environments.

The fact you never finished hollow knight is a crime because by your logic that you proposed with your love for colours and music hollow knight fills that criteria with flying colours. It has beautiful calming music in the different areas, intense bangers that are orchestral and lively for bosses. More complex but still amazing movement (better than Ori's in my opinion, I can say this I played both to max completion) And although their isn't bright colours right away later areas have nicer colours and also although you say it doesn't matter it's gameplay is perfect. Also the game isn't really complete without the DLCs so get them because they elevate everything into "God Hood" wink wink ;) ALSO GOD DAMMIT HOLLOW KNIGHT IS A GAME OF SAME IF NOT MORE QUALITY THAN ORI AND NOT PLAYING IT IS A DISHONOUR TO ITS MUSIC AND QUALITY(in my opinion)!

There will be a day when I beat Hollow Knight (maybe when silksong comes out lmao). Although I concede that objectively, I do think Hollow Knight is a better game, Ori clicked with me much earlier during its playtime. Bash is just that GOAT'd. And after playing Pizza Tower recently, I've come to realize that I like platformers much more than I thought. As for roblux, nothing wrong with the game itself. I only take issues with the company and people exploiting minors on it.

    • @cnkaiser1
      @cnkaiser1 3 місяці тому

Understandable I can agree the bash mechanic was very good either way both games are amazing. Have a nice day.
Edit: I completely agree how music elevates a game as with nearly any other type of production as music is an integral part of art and the creation of things.
