Oh Holly, I am absolutely right there with you feeling blocked. As soon as this whole lockdown started, I felt like I locked down within myself. I've been beating myself up mentally about not painting or creating anything and it's comforting to know I'm not alone in feeling this way. Thanks for sharing this video, and perhaps we need to realize that it's our reaction to all the stressful energy of 2020 that is making us blocked, and that it's ok. We'll get through this.

More than ever I learned (and am still learning) to take one day at a time. Of course we wanted 2021 to get here as if things were going to change with the wave of a wand. Here we are it's 2021, in my state of Florida we have fared well, that's not to say there hasn't been changes and loss. More loss from other issues than Covid, but the effects are felt just the same. We cope.
I'm gifting my illustrated birthday, graduation, and other types of cards to people I know, creating smiles.
As for deforestation, unfortunately this has been happening for a long time, in the 70's it was the rain forest. Stupidity abounds, it doesn't take a rocket scientist or maybe it does, to figure out if you tear down a tree you're going to be warmer than before.

I am right there with you with wanting 2020 to be over. I'm sorry you're feeling so "meh". I think so many people are. I'm not 100%certain 2021 is going to be a lot better at this stage so I really need to work out a way to be happy under these circumstances.

Definitely ready to write 2020 off. 😅 It's really nice how honest you are, and how deeply you are feeling deforestation. I am still hopeful, and I really still think that we can stop this. By talking about it in your platform you will reach so many people. It's really inspiring

Thanks for sharing this. I am incredibly new to the art world, sometimes I feel so much stress or pressure to create. I hope you unlock your creativity again, but it's also refreshing to know that I'm not alone in this. Feel better and looking forward to more videos from you. xo

Aw Holly I'm sorry you're going through this, I just came out of a nearly 8 month dry spell of creativity and only now I'm finding my footing. For me not much helped within the realm of art, but reducing my stress did, I kind of focused of looking into themes I enjoy and shutting completely off twitter, which was a source of great stress for me. I now have a new account there but I am very strict with the time I spend on it in order not to become so overwhelmed like before. Investing my time into my plants and buying prints from artists I love really helped me too, I guess this sort of investment in what I love helped me want to create more (By the way you are the first artist I ever bought a print from and at the time that made me want to create artwork!)
I hope you feel more inspired soon, but don't pressure yourself and maybe take this time to pour yourself into your loves and interests (more than usual).

Oh my, sorry to hear about your creative block ( I do hope it is better already? )! I have had the same trouble but only during the summer - my work is piling up because I can't get anything done and I can't get anything done because of the ever-growing stress of unfinished work. Such a disastrous loop :_D Trying to get out of it by watching my favourite UA-camrs, listening to some inspiring podcasts and just experimenting all together with my style. Also trying to get some easier tasks done so that they are not causing me stress anymore :)
Hoping you find your way out of your block! :3 And thanks for the inspiration to help me get out of the block! :D

antifa quentin, the icon we need 🙌 I really enjoyed this video!! sorry to hear you're struggling, but I am completely with you on the art block/too-depressed-to-work train. I've been trying to boost my creativity with some longer-form personal projects, and it's been helping a bit (I think!) all the best holly!

AGREED. Down with 2020! All this stuff in the world on top of one of my dogs’ unexpected death + a weird back spasm that had me on my back for 6 weeks (I’m over that, thank god). Now just stuck with grief. I’m ready for a new year already. Take your time in getting back to it, respect and learn from the process. Maybe an updated studio will bring a fresh inspiration. 🙂

This is such an honest and relatable video. This year has been such a struggle. I hope you get through this feeling soon. Hopefully when you set up your newly renovated studio and organize your supplies that will trigger a bit of inspiration for you. I know that going through my supplies and organizing has helped inspire me in the past.

Thank you! This also feels like a good place to start, when stuck in fear of beginning. I seem to be in this place currently. It's a lot of shadow work for myself, as my father was an artist and a perfectionist. It's made it difficult for me to work through, but I keep trying.

Those flowers were so incredibly beautiful! I love the way you paint everything, but I think the flowers you've been doing lately have been extra special. They really reflect the care and love you have for our environment, and that comes through in the painting.
I'm also going through a weird artistic stage right now. I think it's understandable that we're all feeling a bit strange considering the world is very strange right now!
Congratulations on the new studio/office in the attic, I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses! Would love to see the video you mentioned on Patreon. :) Take care and give lots of hugs to Quentin and Midge for me x

Sorry you’ve been feeling this way, but as many people have said you’re not alone 😊 After all of the sh!t that’s happened this year and how hard it’s been, I think the least we can do is look after ourselves and don’t see it as a step back in our creativity but more of just... waiting on that step, not going forward but not going backwards either. I picked up a paintbrush for the first time last week, after not doing anything creative since 24.12.2019 😮 Take care of yourself 😊 lovely to see your work in this video 😁

Sorry you are going through this slump. I think a lot of us are feeling the same. I definitely am. Living in the US, I feel even more deflated, creatively and emotionally. Currently trying to work on projects that I felt excited for prior to the hot mess that is 2020. I hope you find that creative boost you need and that it helps.

I had immersed myself in a project for most of this year/quarantine, but now that it's over I feel the weight of everything a bit more. It's much harder to be inspired. I actually started this year fresh off of my longest art block to date, so I'm hoping it doesn't get that bad again. I've actually been thrifting books online, hoping to find some inspiration, but also to give myself permission to detach from my devices. It's been therapeutic at the very least, and I think it's helping me creatively, only time will tell...

I've been feeling a lot of pressure to be honest. I accidentally subscribed for a year to skillshare and I am trying to learn animation but I find myself wanting to rest a lot on the weekends and after I get to Sunday night I feel bad because instead of my classes I ended up baking a focaccia? 😂 also "The Uninhabitable Earth" is giving me major anxiety so I'm reading it slowly. oh and as always life changes coming and I'm just tired. lets all start over next year, like new 2020 but without the crappy stuff.

  • @Horriyuo

I feel the same aout 2020 honestly. For the first half of the year I was focusing on my degree then stuff happened and completing it was hell. Now it's over I'm just trying to chill for a bit. Lack of pressure is helping a bit, being in a liminal state is pretty draining in general though.
