But, there is a dirty little secret in the fuel cap!

Not only did your video shed light on the secret intricacies of the Suzuki petrol cap, it provided thoughtful reasoning as to the best way of cleaning out a petrol tank which I shall be following shortly, but your video made me smile too because your persona can make the most mundane of topics appear far from boring !

You my friend, are a dead set legend, I 've gone through the bike changing everything from plugs to the fuel pump and filters, oil change and air filter, injectors were next , thank God I found your vid , I would never have thought that the fuel cap was so complex, you saved me from having to pay the bucks to a over priced bike mechanic.

Great video, very detailed explanation ! My Vulcan 500 was acting in a similar fashion. I could find nothing wrong, but the problem surfaced again. I found one poster on the Vulcan forum who mentioned the culprit could be the gas cap. Thanks for the great advice.
So I removed my gas cap and drilled a small hole on the inside of the rubber ring and through the metal. Now I have a vented cap. I now have over 350 miles in the past 3 days of riding. It runs superb!! Finally a normal vented gas cap and no more running problems. I wished I had learned about this gas cap earlier. Thanks for the video. My 1200s Bandit is running and idling fantastic!! Like new!! Will continue to rack up the miles. Having a tank that can not vent properly was the problem. I was blaming my carb bank having pulled them and cleaned them about 10 times and then figured out I was have a tank vent problem Its all good now!! Will up date if there are any more problems. 350 miles and counting!!

I have a 1998 Suzuki Bandit gsf600. Someone put on an aftermarket cap assembly. I need one just like yours in the video. I have an oem part number, but none of the pics show the orange breather seal in the assembly. Great video explaining how the tank vent works with the cap. Now if i can just find the right one,

Probably the only thing I've not tried, was told this might be the problem. Only 30 mins running before cuts out, I've tried ecu, coils, leads and plugs. Even carb settings. Fingers crossed this works. Thank you for the explanation.

Dude I got the same experience what you have said, I put a new CHROME VENTED STYLE GAS CAP which I bought from ebay, on my chopper as what you have said, when I throttle my bike it stall, keep trying few time the damm old same thing happen, I change back my old CHROME VENTED STYLE GAS CAP, and it run like normal again. The only different between my old and new gas cap is the new one got 2 small holes while my old one got only one.

I put some WD40 on my key as the lock was getting arthritis. A short ride later my bike died on my. I had a full tank. Suspecting a vacuum in my tank, I opened the gas cap and closed it again. A few cranks later, it started again and I drove it home only a few miles away as it was getting dark and I did not want to ride in the dark and have it go dead on me again. I suspected tank ventilation but had no idea about it being this complex. I also have a gravity feed fuel valve as my original vacuum version was allowing fuel to pass when parked and no way to shut it off. I will now find a way to vent my gas cap with out all this complex EPA BS engineering. Thank you for the video. I had no idea. But I am not surprised. I will remove and cap the vacuum line and remove the ball and valve from the cap and allow it to vent old school. Thx.
Don't remove those small things! Each has a purpose. Just buy a new lid. Cost around 20-40 Dollar. Swap the lock and You are done. 5 min work. Ah, and blow the fock out from every pipe 😂
@@BMRStudio It is done. My Bandit 1200s gas cap is pretty much the same as yours except my check valve is plastic and uses rubber valves. I removed this and put it all back together. Will let you know how it goes. I am confident it will go great and no more fuel feed problems. Will let you know. Going for a ride now to test. Also. I am running a Delkevic Can on my bike. I jetted up a little and wow!! The power increase is amazing!! And the sound is glorious!! 1st 2nd and 3rd gear pulls are brutally fun!! I also run DID and use GO 90 to lube it. Thanks again!!
@@grabir01 DiD is the best! On chain I'm using only WD 40 and a bit differential oil. Super clean and not sticky. 7 year old chain looks like new. Act like new. Wishing Hell good ride bro!
@@BMRStudio Was test riding my removal of the check valves in my gas cap. All was going well and....... Broke my DID chain!!! I had to lay it back on to my rear sprocket and roll it backwards to pull it out of my counter shaft sprocket area. Got it out. Was up Deer Creek canyon with no cell service and was able to cost back down the canyon and out of the mountains to cell phone service. About 11 miles of coasting. I should have adjusted my chain. I knew it had a little slack. On a good note, there is no oil leaking so I should be ok. Will not know the extent of damage if any until I get the counter shaft cover off. Pray for my bike! Thx.
@@BMRStudio Its getting late here in Colorado. I have a report to make. Pulled my counter shaft sprocket cover and to my amazement, I can not find any damage. Not even a scratch!! How can a chain be jammed up in there having to be pulled out using the rear sprocket with 2 men and a woman pushing it backwards to get the jammed chain out. How can this be? I will take it as a victory. Neve mind I had to wait 6 hours for a tow to get the bike home. At any rate. Its all good news. I will give most of the blame to the JT racing sprocket on the rear as its teeth are not tapered enough and the big flat spots on the tips will catch a chain and cut or break it. So. I will order another DID chain and Tapered all the teeth on the JT sprocket. Its all good!!! Thanks for the prayers!!

Trying to get mine off my Suzuki Bandit only got 6K on it after it being unused for 11 years. Cleaned the old fuel out and squirted some carb cleaner down the back of the carbs through the air box and it nearly fires so hoping with some fresh fuel in it will fire up. Annoyingly I cannot open my fuel cap. It's had lots of penetrating fluid squirted down the key but it will not turn and unlock. I have took out all the screws except one that will not remove (but I feel that's a dummy one anyway) but I can't get it out or the cap to pop up. I'm not sure the key is going fully in (very close) but stuck at the moment. It's like one of the barrel tumblers has dropped out of position. Grrrrrrrrrrrr..
I had to install a glass fuel filter bowl to cure/trap, and keep my fuel clean to my carbs. My tank liner started to put super fine deposits into my fuel. Only the glass bowl cured this problem.
I got a super luxury filter set from a friend, who has a Stihl shop and service. Since then, not so much problem with dirt. Only the stupid 10% ethanol is killing all rubber pipes, gaskets, whatever. So 100 octane only!
@@BMRStudio A filter was not able to get it done for me. The particulate matter was so small if would pass through. I tried a ceramic filter but it would not allow enough flow but it did filter. The glass fuel filter bowl is doing the trick as the matter is heavier than fuel. I have emptied my fuel bowl 3 times now. It works!! Stens Filter Bowl Assembly 120-030. As for fuel, I use midgrade. It makes the most power for me. The stuff I use for fuel line is working well with ethanol10 percent or more as I am in Colorado and that is all we have. . As for fuel line, I use Silicone Tubing. No degradation at all. As new. Ethanol does not faze it.

However, I don’t quite know what product to look for in the shops here in Norway being a “semi industrial bathroom cleaner”. I would appreciate very much information about what is in that stuff. Thank you!
Sorry for asking before searching. I found the following for a Silbervogel product that I assume is very similar:

@@ustenhau I was having the same question. From your google translation, here in New Zealand we have products like CLR - Calcium, Lime, Rust remover. I will look up Silbervogel and try to compare them.
That vent Is connected to a steel pipe running thru the tank and out the bottom to a rubber pipe. The steel pipe inside can get rusted up from the bottom and blocks
im having this issue at the moment, my overflow is blocked, tried to clean it from the top and bottom today with wire, no luck

Im having the same issue with my bike. 2000 kawa zx6r. Rides perfect for hours on small roads, but after 20 min on highway at 120km/h it dies as if out of fuel. Wait 10 minutes then it starts. First thing i did was remove the fuel cap/lock and clean it, but the problem is still there. I didnt dare to look all the way down in the small valve. Maybe i need to clean again more thouroughly? How would one clean that tiny valve? Or could this be an electrical problem when the bike gets hot at 120km/h? Fuel pump is working and i have put in a new relay...

I think your case is different. Looks like the floating valve cant pass trough enough gasoline. Or, the fuel tap is dead. 10 min is too short for a fuel cap problem. Just drop it to some cool nice mechanic guy. Give him a 100 buck to fix it.
@@BMRStudio I have replaced all float valves and all carb related gaskets. Jets all clean. Could it still be the float valves? Maybe the height of them? How would i know if fuel tap is dead? The flow seems fine when the tank is off... Appreciate your answers thanks.
I really want to get the satisfaction from fixing this myself! Spent a lot of time already. Not that sure a mechanic would find the problem that fast either. Wont be cheap where i live 🤕
