    If I was designing a cladding product mine wouldn't be fixed gauge. Having the ability to open and close the cover makes all the difference. Even bricks you work out your courses by bed joints. The old school weatherboard. You had loads of variation. The old hardie plank. No taper even more flexibility. All these clip together fixed position things just make harder work. Yes setting out is important but in a lot of cases doesn't help. You can start with the bottom literally laser level. But that doesn't equate to everything fitting. Different height windows. Different height walls. Change of angles etc. Often leaves stupid bits in some areas. We used to juggle cladding to best fit. Now we have to struggle the fitting to keep the same line. You wait till you try the Hardie sheet board lines. Massive heavy patterned boards. Great fun in tight areas between scaffolding hanging in the air. Trying to get all the cut rounds to fit. You say that boarding is 3.6M. Our Hardie boards come 4.2M and up to 16mm thick. You can't pick them up under your arm and stroll off. I could do an info commercial for Hardie. Pros and Cons of an experienced installer. Doubt they would pay me. More cons than pros.

      Really valid points, especially around access on the scaffolding... the fixed gauge does need the setting out to be really good as you indicate, thanks for taking the time to watch and give your professional veiws mate

    Do they calculate what you need for you based on building dimensions or do they just leave it up you?

    How do you finish the very top board close to a soffit. Just leave it sealed with the paint and about 10mm gap. Or would you put a J trim over it?

    • @ukconstruction
      @ukconstruction  25 днів тому +1

      Hi Simon, we use a trim from memory it is the J trim and this is the same as the one we used under the window sill that allows for the ventilation gap and also to slot the final board up then down into the groove, hope that helps
