State of the Galaxy: Everything is on fire, Orks are partying, Tyranids are broke, Eldari are finding religion, Gulliman is banging his head against the wall, Chaos is arguing over the last slice of pizza, Tau are shut in their rooms watching anime, and the Silent King just woke up the kids because its past noon and they need to get their chores started.

In short: The Great Rift was terrible for everyone, except for Chaos (for obvious reasons), and the Orks (who are having a jolly good time).
And the necrons, who haven’t woken up from their siesta yet.
The Imperium just hasn't been the same since Commissar Ciaphas Cain, *HERO OF THE IMPERIUM* retired for the (at least) second time and finally passed away (for real this time, full state funeral and everything, not just 'missing in action' like all the _other_ times he 'died' then turned back up asking 'does anyone have a cup of tanna handy?', honest).
Maldus Alver they are doing fine for now
But they are no major player and far too small to withstand a full attack
Especially if you check further into the lore they are getting in the way of another tyranid hive fleet

I would more describe it as a barrel of flaming grox manure that's approaching a galaxy-sized fan at mach 4. And it's also somehow possessed by a greater daemon of Nurgle.
It is the 42nd Millennium:
-The Imperium is falling apart but being held together by the return of Gulliman and the introduction of the Primaris Marines. Its possible other heroes return like another primarch or shoot Kaldor Draigo is already confirmed to have left the warp. Whose to say that Russ or the Khan or Vulkan might not make a return?
-Chaos has won a great victory, snatching it from the jaws of another defeat at Cadia. The planet may have fallen before the guard did but Cadia still fell. The Great Rift means Chaos has the upper hand. That being said Chaos forces have begun to divide and spread out to achieve their own personal goals, giving the Imperium the opportunity to hold the line and regroup.
-The Eldar have begun to unite making them suddenly a much more potent force in the galaxy. The question remains what exactly will they do with that force? I don't know but it probably won't be good for Chaos.
-The Tau have started to encounter Chaos forces on a regular basis and they just might have started to experience the warp. There is a lot of potential here...stay tuned.
-The Tyranids are still an intergalactic threat but to everything in the galaxy (with one possible exception) not to any one faction. Chaos is an annoyance to them. Everything else is food...except for...
-The Necrons are finally ready to take their rightful place as the true masters of this Galaxy after being exceptionally patient. The Silent King is back! The Pariah Nexuses (yes plural) have been activated and their influence is expanding. Will the Necrons actually be able to cut everyone off from the warp and then harvest them like they have started doing in different parts of the galaxy? Probably not but if anyone can stop the forces of Chaos and shut off the warp from the materium it is the Necrons. If all else fails they still have the Celestial Orrery which makes them theoretically the most powerful faction in the Galaxy.
-The Orks...won. The Orks won a long time ago when the galaxy descended into endless war. The only races that have any chance of exterminating the Orks are the Tyranids and maybe the Necrons. To them the galaxy is one endless brawl and they are enjoying the heck out of it. While other races fight for victory, the Orks are taking an endless victory lap because all the Orks want is constant war and the galaxy is happy to oblige.
Long story short... Chaos is stronger than ever, the orks are uniting, the Necrons are waking up, and the Tyranids are arriving

What gives me hope is these revelations about Emperor becoming more and more godly as of late. I mean, we have long known he has his own kinda demons, but recent books make me hope for future (maybe 10th edition..?) drastic changes in Imperial faction rules.

This must be really footsteps of end times of W40K. In the end times of classic warhammer, the black library brought back Nagash first and much later to that, the soul of Sigmar a.k.a God Emperor of the empire. Therefore, it is not impossible for this trend might repeat in W40K setting.

It's speculated that the"Greater Good Daemon" that saved those T'au is not the result of the T'au's belief in the Greater Good but rather the result of Humans in the T'au Empire worshiping the Greater Good ideals (makes sense considering how T'au don't have much if any psychic influence).
I just hope that we are not getting a "End Times" for 40k, just imagine the absolute shitshow that would be

It's very unlikely we'll get a full murder of the universe like Fantasy, 40k is still extremely profitable, while Fantasy's playerbase was shrinking year on year when the End Times came. GW seem to be overhauling 40k without completely rebooting it, so we may see things happen like Slannesh vanishing like he/she/it did in Fantasy moving to AoS.
I heard GW said it isnt, so take that for what you will, who knows if they arent just lying

For any other universe - this would be the most important and dire day in their entire history. But for Warhammer 40k, it was Tuesday.

Games Workshop: Yes
Some of that golden age of technology tech would be quit useful. Guns that shoot out energy that created small temporary black holes, accurate and reliable teleportation tech, robots with the strength of space marines and numbers of imperial guard, augmentations that could turn a whole planets worth of people into killing machines, swarms on nanomachines that consumed everything that we wanted them to, Super intelligent AI's(this one might as well be ignored for... reasons), ships capable shooting something INSIDE the warp. Yeah this stuff would really be useful.
Unfortunately most of this requires A.I to run which is problematic, plus I’m not sure unleashing programmable robots against Necron is the wisest course of action
the imperium would'nt be using the warp now if it is'nt for that one guy who destroyed it all..

The main superpowers are Necrons and Tyranids, The Necrons have Highly advanced technology and according to the Szarekhan Dynasty Lore so far their crypteks are highly skilled with blackstone and gift even their insignificant foot soldiers with a sliver of the elusive black material, they should find closing the great rift and stifling chaos a tuesday. Not to mention the fact that the entirety of the Galaxy Is essentially the Necron Empire, not just through sheer strength but in numbers too. Necromunda is NecronUnda

Tyranids are also anti-psykers in their own right, or also known as blanks. They produce the shadow in the warp which blocks all other psychic or daemonic influence and can rapidly evolve. The most obvious but severely understated threat of the Tyranids is the fact that to date each Hive fleet has approached from a different angle, with Leviathan invading below the galactic plane, don't get me started on what Tiamet are doing with colonising a star system and building a massive beacon/gestation pod for an emperor level threat/who knows what?
9th Edition will likely focus on Szarekh uniting the galaxy under his banner/allegiance to defeat the Tyranid threat, the Tyranids after all are the reason as to why he returned. Only the united power of all the races in 40k will be able to evn stand a chance against the might of the foe that is the Great devourer. It is all too likely that the Imperium (Humanity 40,000 years from now, circa M42) will refuse to fight alongside them due to their zealotry and xenophobia (racism to aliens). Can’t see things going down too well with the Necrons and Eldar either, I guess we’ll have to see.

I remember reading part of this one fanfic called WH50K, and in it, the galaxy had been divided into a bunch of petty imperiums by the warp. Funny to see that sort've happen in canon.
The Tau didn’t stop The Death Guard, the Death Guard who were led by Typhus were called back for the Muster to Charge into Ultramar, if Typhus wasn’t called back by Mortarion, the Tau would’ve gone extinct.
True that! But then again, if any other faction or even subfaction gave it their all, the Tau would die fast.

I wonder, why did the Death Guard attack the Tau in the first place. Were the Tau's clean and ideal society some kind of blasphemy to Nurgle, or did they fear their developing might, and sought to wipe them out before they grow too powerful?
In the Grim Darkness Of The Far Future, There Is Only War.
So, lets see if i get this correct:
Humanity: Empire failing, some sort of collapse imminent. (probably for the best. We were spread out too much to begin with)
Tau: Working on another FTL tech besides the Warp and the Webway. Currently plagued by visions of a godling.
Eldari: Regrouping and looking for a way of disconnecting from the goddess they created. They might have found a way but time may tell.
Orks: Doing alright. being orks and busting heads.
Chaos: Pulled out some major victories but pride and greed is causing squabbles.
Teranids: Beginning to show signs of starvation as its getting harder and harder to find biomass.
Necrons: Reawakening is in full effect and more crypts are activating.
This is all happening at the turn of the 42nd Millennium. Lets see how things play out. Rumors are abound and anything can happen.
Actually Tyranids have developed a way to eat daemons.

I like how Orks are the *_only_* faction doing alright in all this mess.
I do like the interesting turn of events that yes Chaos is ascendant but that also that the Imperium and the Eldar have both gained something they have't had in a long time... hope.
Hive Fleet Cronos will end up saving the galaxy, it can close warp rifts so let it get big enough and it will re-unify the two halves of the galaxy and bring the eternal paradise the Hive Mind clearly brings:)

It has to be smart because if it bites off too much for it to chew it dies. Plus with Silent Kings return he’s know all about the tyranid threat and prolly has the best methods to exterminate them quick enough that they don’t adapt.
With the Tyranids crippled, the Chaos Gods fighting amongst themselves (the Great Game) and the Orks doing what Orks do best, the greatest threat to the Imperium of Man and the galaxy itself I think are the Necrons without a doubt. Slowly their tombworlds wakes, and remember they unleashed devastating wars upon the Old Ones and the Ctan (Star Gods)
Don't worry GW needs to keep selling minis, somebody will stop the necrons
But then again, the silent king exists. With his guidance the necrons might be more prone to co-operation with humanity.

I read an interesting article of all the lore in games and books about the return of the Emperor. If he comes back, Chaos will once again tremble in fear, for the Emperor is the Anathema, the Avatar of pure and true Order, he did not kill Horus sooner out of love for his lost son, but now the Chaos Gods have no Horus, and the Emperor will not hold back. If even the Chaos Gods feared him... I can't imagine the battle
One thing I like is when people make material about the series they usually include actual heroes in their work. They do their part to brighten the darkness.

Damn this is so interesting. Why isn't there a TV show set in the 40k universe already? I mean seriously all you have to do is look at the Astartes mini-series on youtube to know that the 40k universe has an enormous amount of potential to rival shows like star trek or even star wars.
A 40k TV series is already in production. Apparently, it is going to be based on the Eisenhorn trilogy and is being made by Frank Spotnitz who was the director of The Man in the High Castle. I really hope they don't tone down the grimdark cuz I read the books and all I can say is that it gets dark really fast.

They did my Tyranids dirty and I'm livid! They used to be a huge threat, second only to chaos, but now they're considered a joke, both in the lore and the tabletop.

The Tyranids are still a massive threat in the long term, it is in the short term that they are not really a threat. Most of them are still outside of the galaxy, and they have Hive Fleet Kronos.
In short it is still deadly, grim and unforgiving as always.

*A shirtless human figure sits cross-legged within a sanctum located on Craftworld Ulthwe. The size of your average Guardsman, his body is ravaged by scars and fresh wounds, the product of an arduous journey through the Warp and thousands of years of torture. Oddly enough, his skin is also a mix of pale human flesh and draconic scales black as night. Great, black, bat-like wings sprout from his back, torn in some areas and broken. Both are signs of his heritage, royal you could say. His eyes are closed as images of the events in the galaxy at large whirl through his mind, supplying him with all the information he needs concerning it's status. All the while a psychic glow emanates from his form, closing up his wounds slowly but surely, an ability that eluded him in the Warp but now thrives in the Materium. The figure smiles at this. Already his power erupts, free of the shackles of Chaos that have long imprisoned him, keeping him from his full potential. His home. His brothers.*
*His father.*
*The figure's smile disappears and twists into an expression of discomfort, wincing as his wings snap back into place with a series of sickening crunches. That isn't the whole reason behind his pain. Far across the galaxy, on Holy Terra, the figure feels his progenitor's everlasting agony, a pain that would slay scores of normal beings and bring even the Primarchs themselves to insanity before death claims them. The figures forces through it, though, as even the pain he feels is a mere shadow of the actual thing, and he sends a psychic message through the morass.*
"Worry not, father. I'm coming home. The lost son is found."
*His eyes, red as blood, snap open as a presence intrudes upon the sanctum. An Aeldari, tall and willowy like much of that race, enters the room and walks towards him. The diminutive Primarch smiles widely, instantly recognizing this particular figure.*
"Te'shara, my dear. Do you have news of any Imperium ships, or did you just want to spend some alone time with me?"
*The Aeldari female chuckles* "If only it were the latter, my love, but alas I only have news. An Imperial detachment will be rendezvousing with us in a short while. We let them know that a son of their God Emperor is on board, and they wish to prove the veracity of our claim. They may scoff at your stature, but once you give them a demonstration of your might, nothing overly dramatic of course, their doubts should be erased."
"Excellent. I look forward to getting that much closer to seeing my father. Your people wouldn't have happened to mention my name in the transmission, would they?"
*Te'shara shakes her head* "Your people wouldn't recognize it as one belonging to any of the known Primarchs, anyway, or even the lost Primarchs. Only the Emperor would know your name, Septimius."
*Septimius sighs deeply* "Blame....her....for that. If it hadn't been for....can I say it?"
"Only the title we use, darling."
"Yes, of course. If it hadn't been for She-Who-Thirsts, I would've been able to join my brothers in our father's Great Crusade. Winning glory, spreading our glorious Imperium to every corner of the galaxy, exterminating the forces of Chaos wherever we met them. I would've been remembered by the citizenry and my sons like my brothers were. The loyalists, anyway. Not for ill like those misguided traitors. Perhaps the Heresy wouldn't have even happened, had I been there to stop Horus from turning...."
*A saddened look comes over Septimius' face, but disappears as quickly as it came, replaced with determination* "No matter. That is the past. I will make up for the lack of my presence then by aiding my father and his empire now, when their need is even more pressing then it was in those days."
*Te'shara steps closer and places her hand on Septimius' face* "I know you will, my love. I saw your mind while you were first starting to heal when we brought you aboard. You know the long conversing we had together, learning about each other's lives. In a few short days, we learned all there was to know about each other. Remember?"
*Septimius smiled deeply* "I do. When I awoke and saw you, it felt like I had known you all my life, and you mine, even though it had only been eight days since my arriving."
"Precisely. That is why I know you will succeed. You have the drive, the raw power, and a sharp mind, as well as a compassionate heart and a giving nature, all of which are suitable qualities for a leader, especially in these dark times."
*Septimius and Te'shara both stood there for a moment, staring into each other's eyes. Wordlessly their feelings were communicated, and for the first time, they both leaned in, poised for a kiss.*
*A voice invaded the confines of Septimius' chambers, or at least seemed to given the context of the situation* "Septimius, our Craftworld has reached the Imperial fleet. They await your coming."
*Septimius and Te'shara broke away from each other, frustrated* "Damn it, Eldrad! You couldn't have waited a minute longer?!"
*Eldrad chuckled knowingly* "From all the emotions I felt radiating from the two of you, I think I would've needed to wait a full hour to satisfy your wishes. That certainly would not be feasible, wouldn't you agree?"
*A low draconic growl escaped Septimius' throat, and then he sighed* "No, I suppose not. Let them know that I will be ready shortly."
"Will do. See you then."
*Septimius looked sheepishly at his Aeldari lover* "Guess intimacy will have to wait."
*Te'shara shrugged* "Fret not, my dragon prince. I'll be coming along. We'll have all the time we want, I promise."
*Septimius snorted in amusement* "Don't make promises you can't keep, dearest." *He throws on his robes and armor, and picks up a power sword of Aeldari design, a gift from Eldrad, one that both knew would come in handy in the days to come* "Alright then. Let's go."
*As both walked towards a large landing bay, Septimius ruminated. All these threats plagued the galaxy and the Imperium, and he wondered how he would rise to meet them. He did know one thing, though: He would reach home. From there, he would gather his sons, he would gather whatever brothers of his that were present on Terra and their legions, and he would rise to meet all who would challenge the Imperium of Man, his father's shining kingdom brought low by civil war and incompetence. He would make up for his 10,000 year absence by pouring out his wroth upon all who would stand against mankind. For he was a prince of his people, bound by duty and honor to protect them from all who would ensure their demise. He was Septimius Primus, 21st son of the Emperor of Man, the Dragon King, and he would help the Imperium, and his father, rise again*

10:43 actually, the rift has reawakened the emperor somewhat. And the Lion is now back. Combined with the possibility of Tau'va existing, Ynnead being awakened, Ghaz kicking Angron and Abbadon's collective teeth in, and both necrons and tyrannids starting to take a more active role against chaos, I see it as a reverse great crusade situation. At the height of the great crusade, humanity was on the verge of victory, while every other race and group teamed up to stop them. Chaos is now on the verge of victory, and everyone is teaming up against them.

Could the realm of Ultramar forge Alliances with various "good" Xenos _[cue blasphemer comments]_ such as the Tau and the saner Eldar?
And could Humanity once again embrace technological advancement and not stagnation?
In particular just getting some alien tech from alliances instead of having to research it themselves (something possibly beyond the current Human culture), particularly interstellar travel from the Tau - not as fast, but not as deadly and a lot more reliable.
Such an alliance would be incredibly powerful as the three different powers have vastly different strengths and weaknesses and could really complement each other, instead of just being more of the same troops to the grinder.
Humanity has vast numbers and resources, they are the logistical giant, and they have the ace of their super soldiers (but not in large numbers - yet, but if they could make more _now,_ that's a game changer).
The Tau have greater technology and _are innovative,_ something that Humanity has lost due to misinterpretation of the Emperor's message (and should he ever return, he is going to be pissed at his acolytes). Imagine Imperial guard human waves equipped with battlesuits…
And the Eldar are great psychics, and while they don't advance technically, they still have some legacy technologies (particularly webways - but also some weapons tech) that would greatly increase the capabilities of Humanity and particularly the Imperial guard as well.
If the three groups could embrace the concept of a _'Greater Benifit'_ to long term cooperation, and not backstab each other for short term gain (and in Humanity's case keep their religious zealots from the other regions out of the picture) they could become so much greater than just the sum of their forces.
Add in some devious plans to set the Orcs and Necrons to do their dirty work in fighting Chaos and particularly the Tyranids - courtesy of the Eldar mindset ["Now these plans don't include screwing over your allies do they?"] and the Galaxy just might have a chance.
_However it would probably need the return of the Primarchs Sisko and Picard…_
*But of course that wouldn't be 40K grimdark.*

Man 40k is weird, I'm interested in it but have no idea where to start.
I would suggest starting by reading a little 40K fiction. A very good starting point is Dan Abnett's Inquisitor series. The Eisenhorn Trilogy - Xenos, Malleus, Hereticus - followed by the Ravenor Trilogy and the Magos which ties all the books together (there is also the first novel in the connected Bequin series called Pariah, but Abnett has not gotten around to writing the rest of that yet) are all excellent, and give an insight into what Imperial society looks like away from the battlefield.
Another good series of books, also by Abnett, are the Gaunts Ghosts series. It has been described ( a little unfairly in my opinion) as Sharpe in space, and follows the experiences of an Imperial Guard regiment called the Tanith First and Only, the only survivors of a dead world as they fight in the lengthy Sabbat Worlds Crusade. It is excellent military sci fi with a fantastic cast of characters you will grow very attached to... and that will then die horribly. Be warned.
More generally, you can't go wrong by just picking up the 9th edition 40K core book and reading the lore section. It is hefty and provides an excellent overview of the 40K setting and everything that is going on at the current point in the timeline, as well as going over important events from the history of the setting. The artwork is also darkly beautiful.
If you are looking for something after you have done that, and are maybe a little bit bonkers, there is always the Horus Heresy novel series. Start with the opening trilogy - Horus Rising, False Gods, and Galaxy in Flames - and then go from there. The main book entries are numbered on the Black Library website to help you read them in the order they were published (though there are additional short stories as well), and Audible has them all on audiobook if that is your preference. The series is coming to a close now with the Siege of Terra sequence, but the full Horus Heresy series is well over 50 books and counting published over the course of the last 15 years. That should hold you for a while.
Gregory Greenwood-Nimmo Eisenhorn is a bit of a weird introduction though. In the first book, there is a ton of description and emphasis on the Sarauthi race and the strange portals they use. The reader is left with a Tim Burton impression of 40k, or feel like they just watched a 1960’s Star Trek episode. It’s good, but is it a good introduction? Why not a book that has a ton of description on a race that’s actually a big part of 40k?
@@kr0w119 You can never encompass the scale of a fictional world the size of 40K in any single novel, and there is such a variety of playable factions that a book that only deals with one doesn't necessarily get across the essence of the setting.. Eisenhorn and its sequels gives a good feel for the scope and character of the 40K universe at large, and does so while being a very well written piece of science fiction that will be engaging even for someone entirely new to 40K .
It's not really that wired. It's more or less The Foundation without Hari Seldon.
@@myself2noone Except 40K does have this problem with actual, no fooling daemons and evil gods. And a wide variety of just supremely messed up hostile alien species. And a parallel dimension made up of psychic power and intense emotions. Plus, the Foundation series Galactic Empire fell into ruin and Seldon's Foundations were a contingency intended to limit the period of galactic barbarism resulting form that, but the Imperium is still more or less holding on, as nightmarishly dystopic as it is.
With all that said, I think a mutant like the Mule from the Foundation Trilogy is the sort of thing that Inquisitors would have nightmares about - mind influencing powers on that scale would be truly terrifying, even for operatives used to dealing with the horror show that is the 40K universe.
